After two compelling seasons, Girls Hostel seems to have run out of steam with the creators not quite sure of the direction that needs to be taken. I have often heard that medical students have to study so much that even taking a bath feels like wasting time, and then there is Girls Hostel, where students have all the time for fests, elections and running tea shops. It seems the creative team ran out of ideas this season, despite having three writers on board, and instead of focusing on the educational aspect and the issues being faced by girls in a hostel, they settled for a fest and talent show for the entirety of the season. This kind of environment would feel believable in a college running non-professional courses; engineering and medical students don't have the time for all this.

Ever since the finale of the first season, we have been waiting to see what happened between Zahira, Jo and Gurpreet; but it seems the creators have decided to brush it under the carpet. Gurpreet appeared for one scene this season, that too for a video call and we are to assume that everything has already been resolved between the three friends off camera, and that chapter won't be visited ever again. Also, why did Jo, played by Srishti Srivastava, made an exit from the show? The central character from the first season won't be a part of the show anymore? Did Srishti opt out of the show because of fatigue, some other work, or was the budget for this season reduced so much that they had to write off one of the main protagonists? Gagan Arora, who played Richa's boyfriend in the previous two seasons, was also written off from the show; which makes me wonder, was TVF really motivated to make this new season, or was it done out of compulsion because they were contract bound?

There were no issues with the acting performances as every actress has done a wonderful job, especially Ahsaas Channa as Richa and Trupti Khamkar as Warden. Among the new faces, Kareema Barry as Hot Mess was quite entertaining. Simran Natekar is such a fine actress who is always a delight to watch as Mili, but for some reason the show doesn't find it necessary to give more prominence to her or further develop her character; instead she remains confined to the sidelines for the majority of the season.

This season was quite a letdown, with a storyline that was neither engaging nor intriguing. There is no point in going for a follow up season if you don't have a strong screenplay, it's much better to go for fresh ideas and concepts and make a new show instead.
