Exclusive: It’s a tough time to be a mid-sized unscripted production company right now.
A slow-down of greenlights amid cost cutting within all of the major media conglomerates, and seemingly no bump from the writers and actors strike despite what many were expecting, has led to doom and gloom across the non-scripted sector.
This has led to many companies having to undergo layoffs. Deadline understands that companies including Bunim/Murray, Half-Yard Productions and Propagate Content have all cut staff recently and more are expected to follow suit. ITV America-backed High Noon Entertainment informed its local production staff in Denver that due to production cycles, the number of workers contracted when shows weren’t in production would be reduced. We hear Hot Snakes Media is in a similar situation.
“It’s the toughest time to be in unscripted that I can remember,” one unscripted producer told Deadline.

It was back in June of last year that we learned HBO Max had pulled the plug on the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi series “Raised by Wolves,” cancelling the show after just two seasons. The series was subsequently pulled from HBO Max entirely, with promised plans to license the series (and others) to third-party free ad-supported streaming television (Fast) channels.
Making good on that promise, Bloody Disgusting has learned that “Raised by Wolves” has now found a new home at The Roku Channel, alongside HBO Max’s “Westworld.”

In the early 2010s, Breaking Amish was a TLC phenomenon that gave an inside look into the lives of former Amish people who leave their communities. After it went off the air in 2014, TLC launched the sequel series Return to Amish to follow some of the original cast members as they seek to return to their communities. In 2023, Return to Amish is back for a seventh season after a two-year hiatus during the pandemic. Among those joining the fray are ex-Amish member Fannie Schmucker.

Warner Bros Discovery has finally nailed down plans to go the Fast route. Last year — in between an intense bout of cancellations and titles being pulled from their streaming home on HBO Max — the company announced plans to explore a free ad-supported television option (Fast). During the company's third-quarter earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav made a point of saying that there's "a huge amount of content that's not even on [HBO Max/Discovery+] that's sitting with us that hasn't been put to monetize in the marketplace." In the spirit of cashing in, a new plan has been enacted. Over the next few months, 14 Warner Bros. branded Fast channels will arrive on Roku and Tubi.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s plan to distribute Westworld and other key shows via Fast channels has materialized.
Deals have been struck with Roku and Tubi to launch branded channels this year, bringing more than 2,000 hours of programs in total to each service.
Deadline had reported Wbd was likely to sell Westworld and other key titles to Fast channel providers in December, when it was pulled from HBO Max. That came amid a financial review of the HBO portfolio. Other shows, including The Nevers, Raised By Wolves and F-Boy Island were pulled at the same time, as Wbd CEO David Zaslav eyed new ways to monetize his catalog. Tubi noted The Nevers is included in its agreement.

Rumspringa break forever? Breaking Amish premiered ten years ago on Sept. 9, with TLC's cameras following five Anabaptist (four Amish and one Mennonite) as they left their friends and family on the farm behind for New York City to experience life outside of their Amish communities. It was like The Real World, but with bonnets and buggy rides. The show—which starred Abe Schmucker, Jeremiah Raber, Kate Stoltz, Sabrina High and Rebecca Byler—quickly turned into a hit, with the first season becoming TLC's best performing freshman series ever at the time. Breaking Amish would go on to air three more seasons, heading to Florida and Los Angeles before ending its four-year run with an...

For a decade, Lena Dunham has kept more than busy, executive producing TV series like “Camping” and “Generation” and putting out her memoir. Yet she’s been notably selective about her main slate of projects, and “Sharp Stick,” which premiered tonight at the Sundance Film Festival, is her third major act. The first was “Tiny Furniture,” the 2010 movie that launched her, and it was a gem: the portrait of a wayward young New York striver, played by Dunham, told on an unusual level of lacerating honesty. When I saw it I thought: There’s something about how this filmmaker views her lead character — with open eyes, showing us her dreams but also, in close-up, all her flaws — that cuts against the grain not just of Hollywood but of so much indie-film piety.
Dunham’s second act was “Girls,” and that was a one-series revolution: not the first HBO show to feel “like a movie,...

At the movies, I don’t scare easily, but the “Paranormal Activity” films have usually found a way to get under my skin, at least for a few moments. They’ve been coming out since 2007, and in all that time they’ve turned into their own genre, with its own tropes and shivers. But the forces behind the series — led by the independent horror mogul Jason Blum, who “Paranormal Activity” first put on the map —must have realized, around the time of “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” (2015), that the series was starting to run on fumes. It had become a fear franchise of diminishing returns (creatively and at the box office), and that’s why “The Ghost Dimension” was presented as the final film in the series.
You knew they couldn’t stick to that. But “Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin,” which is the seventh “Paranormal Activity” film and the first in six years,...

For years, the Amish community was largely closed off to mainstream society. All of that changed, however, when reality decided to make the Amish the subject of the series Breaking Amish. The show told the stories of members of the Amish community who were excited to break into the ‘real’ world. Despite receiving some criticism, the series became wildly popular and people couldn’t resist learning more about the lives of the Amish. The show was followed up with a spin-off called Return to Amish which documented the stories of people who were in the process of returning to the community.

When the TV series Return to Amish debuted in 2014, people were instantly intrigued. The show followed original cast members from the show Breaking Amish. This time, however, instead of leaving the Amish community, they were attempting to return to it. Since Amish people have largely avoided the spotlight for centuries, getting such an intimate glimpse into their world was essentially unheard of. With that being said, the fact that the Amish community has always been so private-led many people to believe that there was no possible way the series was real. After all, at this point we know that

TLC reality show Breaking Amish and spin-off Return to Amish were no strangers to controversies… but the controversies around cast member Chapel Peace Schmucker were stranger than most! This is a woman who was arrested on drug charges — multiple times, according to reports — and who is accused of fooling her co-stars into thinking she was undergoing chemo when her cancer was actually in remission. Read on for the gossip… As TMZ reported in March 2016, Chapel was one of 27 people busted in Pennsylvania after authorities seized $8,400 of heroin, more than $90,000 of meth, and more than $27,000 in cash. The reality star was charged with possession with intent to distribute and for possession of paraphernalia. And Starcasm reports that wasn't her first bust: She was also arrested earlier that year for faking a urine sample and arrested in 2015 for heroin and Valium possession. Breaking Amish star Chapel Peace is charged with furnishing drug free urine pic.

Troubled Return to Amish star Sabrina Burkholder is giving fans an update on her struggles with sobriety. The mother-of-two — whose children were adopted by their dad's sister — reveals TLC producers have been helping her get clean. "I'm doing good I just saw parole again yesterday," she wrote on Facebook. "TLC is involved now too, and I signed releases of information yesterday at parole allowing them (TLC) to know everything that’s going on with me. So if I would go get high and then pee dirty for parole, TLC would know immediately. I specifically asked parole to put it in the paperwork that TLC and Hot Snakes (the production company) be allowed to know everything. That way I am held accountable and have to do well, otherwise, I will lose my job. I decided that I need that kind of structure in my life." She added, "They needed to be...
