Finally A Little Bit of Something
dlmcclellan-2476919 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Let me preface by saying I love Justified (OG). I love Timothy Olyphant. And I was excited to see him act with his daughter, who blissfully isn't in this episode.

Edit. The introduction music is the best 10 seconds on TV today. Literally 10 seconds. And, I'm watching the episode again!

This was the first episode that wasn't 100% like fingernails on chalkboard over and over and over til they are bloody, because, god, what a long trek this has been to get: where? No. Where.

But it was the first episode that was in any way interesting. There are too many little ancillary stories that are just there for no particular reason, like maybe everybody got to nepo someone in. (Oh, I bullied you in high school. Here come play a random crim.)

This villain is just a psycho, nothing interesting about him at all beyond his side hustle (Rock Star In His Own Mind) Can you imagine dying listening to that chicken fat sing and jibber jabber?

The writing is terrible. I'm embarrassed for them. Everyone did Viviene Olyphant a disservice. Viv. Tim. Tim's Wife. Writers. Directors. Producers. I think somebody was teaching somebody a lesson, be it Tim teaching his daughter. Be it Tim's wife for suggesting it. Be it the writers who must have said, Hey,kid. Talk like you're a three year old baby, not the wise cracking love child of Raylan & Wynonna. Maybe the powers that be are teaching Tim a nepo lesson. Because surely someone knew how horrible it was coming across. If she was 5, maybe. 15. Please.

This episode did give me a glimmer of hope for the last two.

How?

Warning: Spoilers
So they get Clint in cuffs and he's asked "Why'd you kill the judge and girl?" And he replies "...does it matter?"....Does that NOT imply he did kill them and as such could be held for that? I mean wow. Idk if that's poor writing or what but that's kind of annoying.

Other than it was fine I guess (just filling words now). Villain is kinda lame. No where near likeable as Boyd Crowder was (surprising to say). This dude is just a low life thief who's just annoying.

I love original Justified and am all for bringing the characters back but aside from Raylan this one kind of falls flat. Hopefully the end of the season brings about a good ending.

Where are the Albanians?
tzc-7521319 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
1. Where did the Albanians go/ They seem to have dropped out of the chase. But of course, they could not. Too much foreshadowing. Writers seem to want us to forget about them so they can, surprise!, swoop in for Clement's final undoing. I can see a scene where Raylan has Clement, with Albanians right behind, and Clement begs Raylan to arrest him, but Raylan, choosing Justice over the law (again), abandons Clement to his fate.

2. Who is tipping Clement off? Either the cops or the lawyer. But why would they do that? He just rolled into town and wouldn't have a long term, illegal dealing relationship with anybody. He doesn't seem to have any money, certainly not bribe money quantities. It's more plausible that the cops would be on the Albanian's payroll (where did Norbert go by the way). Only reason could be that whomever it is, they're in the Judge's book too and are buying time, waiting for a chance to get their own page ("the whole city's in there"). Is Office Wendell too keen on just making it to retirement? Is Carolyn too keen for that judgeship.

3. How did Clement find out about the book in the first place? Can't recall if that was ever explained.

Series has been good, worth watching, just not Boyd Crowder good.

Warning: Spoilers
Justified: City Primeval has relaxed into a groove and to a style that fits. I wonder if they will have Sweetie survive since he was shot in the chest, not the head, and we did not see the body. I hate when TV shows take the cop out route when we have seen Clement go for the killshot very often.

But him evading police and them approaching again without evidence (can't they find DNA in the car or on the girl or something?) does not seem plausible. If there is one flaw of this show and Justified it is that too often they have bad guys get away with improbable things until the very final few episodes.
