LOVERBOY is a no-budget addition to the psycho-thriller genre of film-making about a put-upon young woman who has thus far been unlucky in love. However, she meets an edgy but seemingly perfect young man at a vibrant party and soon begins a relationship with him, little realising that he's hiding some very dark secrets indeed.
The plot is interesting enough but LOVERBOY falls down, as do so many of these films, because of the lack of budget. There's just enough money to stage all the scenes but none left over to hire decent actors or even a decent writer. For a long time this is nothing more than a dullish romance with lots of making out scenes to pad out the running time. There are annoying flashbacks which further spoil things and it's only right at the climax that things get interesting, and by then it's all over.
