"I'm the King of the World!"
WordsworthStone12 February 2023
I couldn't help but think of the ending of Titanic--spoiler--if you haven't watched the 1997 film or just skipped American history. The difference, you know, Jack (Spencer) fits on the life-raft this time and both survive. Titanic Part II Endgame. There were some shot for shot compare moments, don't deny it.

The Spencer-Alexandra b-line is my favorite so far, I'm quite curious to their story as Elsa Dutton specifically narrator *spoiler* about her brothers.

The main storyline back at the Yellowstone ranch just edged forward, somewhat sluggish. Each scene is just some further exposition that won't pay off until the following finale episodes. Better pay or Chekov will haunt you.

Though it is important in respect to the Yellowstone history but I don't look forward to the Rainwater scenes. I have to get mentally prepared for them. Breath. "Let's get sad!" Such a cruel cruel world. *tear*

Indian residential school
WhyFli22 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am Canadian, and have been hearing for years about the abuses that occurred in the residential schools. A picture is worth 1000 words. The horrific scenes of the students and nuns should be shown in more than this show; they should be shown in the news across Canada.

I never really understood what was going on in the schools and in the society at that time, but I do now. I am not a believer, and have not much use for religion and it's various trappings. But now I am filled with anger and disgust at the arrogance and the cruelty of these Catholic priests and nuns.

I think the pope and present day authorities of the Catholic Church should be required to watch 1923, because even they might not fully realize the damage done and the loathsome behaviour that ensued.

Episode 6
bobcobb30117 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a long episode, boy was it long, but it was an entertaining one.

Harrison Ford in his old age still brought some good acting here in the final moments on the porch. I don't know how many people in the early 1900's knew about cement streets in New York, but nevertheless, it definitely resonated and it hit home with what John Dutton is still fighting for on Yellowstone.

And the scenes of the turned upside boat and the fight for survival definitely rang true. I can't imagine the fear of anyone who would end up in a situation like that and how difficult it is to hang on and try to survive.

It's a winner- Cannot think of a single deduction
TV_Gourmet25 March 2023
The show is a winner. I watched to see Harrison Ford. The casting is perfect. Who is Brandon Sklenar and where has he been all my life? He is superb in the role of Spencer. It's a BIG character and he does not play it over the top. The volume is perfect. And how how how does he appear so un self conscious in every scene? He's got some bold scenes. I'm not even that fond of Yellowstone, but I'm sure glad I tuned into this. Congrats to the writers, cast and the whole team. This is excellent television. The standard of the writing is very high. Very well done! I will just add that there are plenty of strong female characters as well as male. To like and dislike. A special shout-out to ahmina Nieves as Rainwater, and Sebastian Roche as father Renaud... killer performances, unflinchingly brutal.

Another very solid episode
85122214 June 2023
Greetings from Lithuania.

"One Ocean Closer to Destiny", a sixth episode of first season of "1923" was a very good one - just like all the previous ones. I loved all storylines so far, with one in Africa standing out a bit. Acting was superb, cinematography and directing is top notch. Dialogs were superb and I'm probably in minority here but I really love the way they do monologs - it always about true values of life, well, at least according to Duttons. Yet personally i relate to them easily.

Overall, 1923 so far is a great show, i even prefer it more then 1883 (which was very good one) due to more complex storylines.

Another good episode except Harrison Ford's monologue
jjohnston101313 February 2023
In one scene Harrison Ford's character tells his wife that this is "about survival" but then when he's giving a monologue which was presumably supposed to be inspiring about why they are fighting all the things against them and their homestead he waxes on about a road up the hill and developers paving their land.

I see that it goes with the theme of onrushing technology he's supposed to be bothered by but it's just a green agenda talking point shoved into an otherwise pretty good show.

I guarantee you no homesteader stock family on a ranch that far from everything was more worried about the idea of encroaching development and saving the green elements than they were about themselves and their own sovereignty over their lives and what they built. The people who built the West came this way to gain freedom and independence. Not to save the trees.

The African storyline bores me to death
home-274-2473819 April 2023
Weak acting and weak storylines. We enjoyed the Montana storyline but skipped over all the African scenes. Those scenes are so predictable and sappy, all just so 'blah'. There is no chemistry between the actors in the African scenes. The look and feel is also different from the American storyline, almost like it's written and filmed by a different crew. Thank God for Mirren, Ford and the gruesome natives storyline. Not sure why this long long boring African storyline is necessary. '1923' can't stand in the shadow of the much rougher, tougher and more interesting '1889'. I need 24 more characters, cheers!

Filler episode. Nothing new.
mviken9122 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first three episodes were great, but the last three has been terrible. It's like they want to make a good show, but haven't a solid script so they drag it out. I sense that the season will end with Spencer finally arriving, and that's it for season one. Just a lot of filler episodes trying to show character developement, and the harsh times back then and how long everhthing took. In my opinion it's not good enough, they're draging it out. Spencer could have arrived home by last episode, or the beginning of this one. The whole thing with the captain dying, the boat sinking blablabla. It's just a pile of nothing. Masked as character developement. No ones changed, only hirty girty blond girl - which has been smart up until now, where she suddenly thinks jumping for a piece of life saving equipment was a good idea when Spencer said stay. To predictable...

The show is adrift
dmckenzie198114 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I realise the show requires character development and context, but gee... with nearly 50% of the episode dedicated to watching Spencer shiver on a capsized boat while um, generic pretty blonde, whimpers and makes inaudible groans, was coma inducing.

With the episode fittingly moved about as fast as a turning tide, and proving equally soppy, we hadn't advanced the story beyond a day.

In other news, Jacob was able to grumble his way up a dirt path, and Aminah, running from the hideous, cruel and indoctrinating Catholics got five mins of screen time, which gave her enough time to put on a pair of pants.

By the end, Spencer was no closer to America, Aminah was forgotten, and the audience closer to joining dots on lineage, or much else for that matter.

With the slow burn leading up to an ending with only two episodes to go, you'd be able to cram more into Lizzo's lunch box. So, this episode should have moved the story much further.. 2/10.

Bad romantic sitcom
loressachampagne14 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So cheesy. If you are interested in bad harlequin romances this is the show for you. Super predictable scenes, that try to be suspenseful but aren't.. incredibly corny romance between two unlikeable characters.. first they survive lions..and then sharks...the female won't shut up.. oh and they fell in love and got engaged within 1 hr of meeting... nothing happened in this episode besides the annoying couple defying the odds once again.. will they ever make it to Montana? My guess is not until 3 seasons in, but before then they will likely will be involved in a pirate attack.. run away train.. kidnapping.. just terrible.. It's a far cry from 1883.

1883 is filet mignon and 1923 is a Big Mac
ajmillar12 February 2023
The dime-store level romance novel that is 1923 is more or less all this show is going to be. The latest episode cemented that fact.

1883 is gritty, authentic and beautiful-everything from the production, to the writing, acting, the musical score-EVERYTHING about 1883 is so much more emotionally satisfying.

Now, with 1923, we get romantic cliches, over the top bad acting (especially from the Alex character and awful British accent) and long dragged out scenes.

A lot happens and not a damn thing moves the story along-move the story along faster folks, I'm rolling my eyes with each week!-Ugh!

Boring, wasted episode
edkap-6276126 March 2023
The romance between Spencer and Alex is taking too much screen time and just slowing things down too much. And her character is really becoming intolerable with all her little witticisms and cuteness. How many times did she say she was "bedded"? Hate to say it, but I was kind of hoping that the ocean would finish her off. Spencer is not exactly the ideal of a magnetic character either. Yeah, I get that he's the strong, silent type who is running away from his war trauma, but it's too much and it makes him rather dull.

I wish there was some way to bring back Sam Elliot in this series. It really needs someone like him. I like Harrison Ford, and I know he's supposed to be old in this series, but he really IS old and has lost much of his dynamism unfortunately.
