The Conners is touching on a lot of serious issues this season. I don't know if that is by design or because they ran out of ideas or if the show is just gearing up for the end.
They handled the subject of pregnancy well and looked at it from a realistic perspective. That is all you could ask for from a show like this.
But overall it was just not that funny and that has to be a bit concerning. There have not been a lot of funny episodes this season and while it is still entertaining, at the end of the day we need to understand this is a comedy and what the end goal should be for the viewer at home.
