Well worth watching...

Not bad, not bad at all for a made-for-TV production. Some convincing acting throughout, a good, solid script, a compelling story... what more can you expect? Yes, maybe the sound could have been better, maybe the cinematography could have been a little better, etc., but all things considered this was well worth spending one and a half hours in front of a screen for.

The film tells the story of a workers' strike in post-war Senegal, a true story that it tells very well. Even though it is certainly ideologically biased, the makers do not go over the top, the condemnation of the French colonial regime is not the 'raison d'etre' of the film, this is not simply a propaganda pamphlet for socialism and workers' rights. No, this is a film about individuals and their struggle to survive, even that of the colonial elite who is well aware the world is changing around them and nothing will ever be as it was again. Well done!
