As a long time fan of the books
hamed_mr-j21 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode was a 7, the second is an 8. As a fan of the universe the overall action is better than its depicted in the series, and the overall tone is more serious. I had a problem with Riordan's kid orientated jokes as i grew up and seeing it being tuned down is good. Casting is overall good even though they don't stay true to the source materials. The main problem for me was the pacing, they skip over some world building moments from the books that soaks you in the universe but in the series they skip over scenes quickly. I would have liked more time with chiron and mr d like in the books. The first 2 episodes makes me think that it should have been a 10 episode series instead of 8 with 3 episodes for the pre quest sections of the story. I hope the pacing gets better and the world gets more time to be experienced in the following episodes. One last point is the exposition, i prefer the way things were explained in the books, every scene had a small piece of the puzzle while in the series multiple exposition points were gathered into one scene making it seem off and bland.

Good episode overall :D
tanapol30422 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The overall episode is great, I liked the fight scene particularly. It just bugs me a little bit that they all came to the conclusion that Hades had the Master Bolt with just "he's the third jealous brother" explaination too easily. In the book they did a great job explaining how Hades would benefit the most from the war as all the souls would go down to his domain and such. Kind of a let-down we didn't get that :/

Also that claiming part, the CGI could use a but more work. Felt like i was watching old starwar movies where they have lightsaber but with no lighting effect. That's a let-down also. :(

This Is Even Better Than "I Accidentally Vaporize my Pre-Algebra Teacher"!
thdoglovr31 December 2023
If you saw my review for episode 1, I couldn't wait to watch this episode! THANK YOU for making this episode even better than the last episode, because I was on the edge of my seat. Camp Half Blood is exactly as I Imagined it and Clarisse and Luke, And Annabeth were perfectly Casted! Annabeth especially! We have backstory on Grover, and also the hilarious Line "PETER JOHNSON IS HERE!" said by Dionysus the god! It was funny, it made everything better than ever. And the Capture The Flag scene was the best scene in the whole episode. I love Luke and the bathroom scene was perfect! Great Job, Rick Riordan! Keep it up!

A Stronger Series
arconner23 December 2023
Holy crumpets - episode 2 outdid episode 1 and that's impressive to say the least.

Avoiding spoilers; I love this entry into the series and I love how it picks up as fast as the books with getting to the main plot, the adventures & fun!

Not only that, but this episode shows more of Percy's immersion into his new world and in accordance with the books I think they did a very good job. I love being able to plot lines and scenes from the show directly to the book.

I will admit, as some of the other reviews let onto, some scenes and lines feel forced and acted. I'm not so sure if it's a scriptwriting issue or an acting issue, but the show is still so fresh it doesn't matter. They still have time to grow and develop the characters. If we're lucky, they have not only the next six episodes but then the next 4 seasons to become the heroes they're meant to become. So I'm not judging a new show for being new.

Can't wait for episode 3!!

Whoa
rheapathak13 January 2024
This episode was absolutely brilliant! Watching so many of my favourite characters being introduced into this has blown my mind, and since it would probably take me forever to describe just what I love about each of them, I'm gonna hit the highlights.

Luke...*cue the squealing* What else can I say?! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HIM ALREADY!!! He's been perfectly developed as the cool older guy, who every admired and instantly likes because he's so popular and yet he still took the time to help and stay with Percy, developing the CUTEST older brother relationship. I feel like that going to be really useful in at the end of the series, because just like the book, his...let's just call it "big plot twist," will have much more of an effect on the watchers😁😁

Annabeth: I see what Rick Riordan meant about Leah Sava Jeffries being perfect for Annabeth. Straight from the start she's the scary smart, super dangerous girl. I did notice how Annabeth was much more mysterious in the show, but that works well too, because it makes her someone who everyone-especially Percy is always wondering about, and who everyone respects and fears a little. I also love that they added diversity to the show-at the end of the day the looks don't matter as long as the actor plays out our favourite charecter term properly-and Leah's acing it.

Clarrisse and Dionysus: I know this is getting a little bit long, but I cant end this review without mentioning Clarrisse's acting!! She's SO convincing-playing the bully and that scream in the second episode?! It was so rawwww! Huge respect-she's such a great actor. And of course we love Dionysus, with his ever so famous line PETER JOHNSON IS HERE🤣🤣🤣 exactly how I imagined in the books.

The setting for Camp half-blood was awesome, and again exactly like I imagined it with the satyrs and demigods. So far I'm loving this series and already counting down days until the next one:)))) thanks for bringing such a special book series for me, to life!

Extremely mid
hrodriguez-6634624 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, I'm just going to say it: the acting in this show has been horrible so far. Hopefully it improves over the next several episodes. Also, the pacing is ridiculous. Percy has just recently lost his mother and is barely settling into his life at camp and is already being sent on a quest to hell. The books may be fast paced, but it really doesn't work in live action productions. Everybody was talking about how good this show was gonna be and all the critics were talking about how great it was before the episodes were released. I expected much better. It's very mid. The only redeeming quality I can think of is the action scenes are fun and the overall theme of Greek mythology is fun and it's cool to watch the show utilize things from myths, etc.

The Premiere Was Better, But This Is Still A Great Episode
e_daneva27 December 2023
I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom is an amazing episode. I have watched 2 episodes in this series and they were both really good. The premiere of the show was better, but I still consider this a good episode. The last episode had a lot more emotion, but this episode has a bit more action and a tiny tiny pinch of humor. This episode is just really setting the series up on Camp Half-Blood and the quest. I can't wait for the next episode. Actually, I don't have to wait. Episode 3 of this series got released just yesterday. I think that after this review I will watch the episode, then review that episode and the whole series on IMDb. After that I will review Season 1 on Rotten Tomatoes. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy. That'll only take what, and hour and a half. In all, I give this episode a 7.8 out of 10. Keep up the good work Percy!

Good but painfully cringe
JettblkIMDB20 December 2023
Writers and especially Disney, understand this, as Percy Jackson fans, we read the books in our preteens, and now we're in either senior year of high school or early college. You guys need to grow with your audience; a lot of the jokes miss extremely hard and tons of scenes are insanely cringe worthy and felt like they were directed towards eight year olds. I try not to be that guy, but every single casting was terrible. I think they could be all amazing actors and actresses, but not for the role they were given. The CGI is incredibly terrible. I cannot believe a movie made in 2010 had beyond better CGI than a high budget show created in 2023. In the first film Mrs. Dodds looked amazing in the first movie, Grover's walk and legs looked amazing, Hades looked amazing, healing sequences looked amazing, Chiron didn't look bad either... but this? The CGI has been nothing but low quality MCU show CGI (Loki not included, that show was stupendous).

Annabeth is too cute!!!
sleepyari2 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really appreciate how much diversity they have on the show. But I can't say I'm not just a little bit sad that they don't look like how I pictured them in my head after reading and rereading the books over and over. But they make up for it by having the personalities pretty spot on. What's interesting is seeing actual kids in camp, in the books it's so easy to feel the weight of demigods but in the show you see actual kids fighting and it's really refreshing. It gives you a different feel altogether. I'm excited to see where the show goes. Especially Luke and Grover's characters. The claiming part was a bit anticlimactic and we haven't really heard about the prophecy yet. But the quest announcement did seem a little rushed. Overall, it's a really enjoyable show if you take it for what it is - just some demigods doing demigod things.

I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom
Prismark1029 January 2024
Disney and Rick Riordan look to be following the Harry Potter template in this Percy Jackson series. It works and this was an enjoyable second episode.

He might have lost his mother and been told that he is a son of a Greek god. Percy Jackson is in Camp Half-Blood and has acquired a reputation after he killed the Minotaur.

However Percy is a demigod whose father has not yet claimed him.

Clarisse La Rue and her friends regard Percy has a freak. They want him to admit that him killing a Minotaur is just lies. However whenever Percy is near water, he has special abilities.

The title of this episode might give an important clue as to just who Percy's father might be. It also unleashes the plot. Percy's quest for the rest of the series.

Sadly Disapointed
aliltlancaster5 January 2024
This episode has made me realize that we will not be getting the more book accurate show we had been promised. 8 episodes is not enough time to capture the books and it shows. The episode was rushed and missing a lot of details from the books. Some of which I felt were pretty important to the storyline. The second half of the episode could have been a whole episode but it was rushed and skimmed through instead.

The characters also seem a bit off. Their dialogue and interactions with other characters does not match the books portrayal. In some cases you are talked and described to what their relations are, but the interactions don't match what they described.

I would love to see this series continued. They really need to work on pacing and storytelling though.

Bad CGI, Bad acting, Disappointment
jayce-7965716 January 2024
I really had high hopes for the show. I've read every single book and all the spin offs. So unfortunate because the casting is horrible for every character, none of the kids can act better than Disney channel and the CGI goes from looking decent to atrociously bad like modern marvel projects.

I don't understand how you screw up all these side pieces so bad when they genuinely have a half decent story here. Problem is, you can't focus on the story when it feels like I'm watching little kids act for the first time. You would think they would've tried a little harder but it seems instead they let the first group of people who auditioned get the part.

Listen, I know people like this show, but it really isn't anything special. It feels like CW mixed with Disney. I hope this isn't the future of Percy Jackson. This episode full of these problems and a rushed pace... really didn't help my hopes.

Ok. Film was better
neuroman_uae22 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have been looking forward to the show, but unfortunately i feel it lacks something compared to the previous film. It sort of repeats what was already in the film but to a lower standard. For instance, the competition to get the flag didn't feel very competitive at all and just focused on a small fight scene with Percy - in all i felt it was changed to make it appeal to a much younger generation, which results in it feeling less dramatic. I did like some of the CGI and the lad who plays Percy acted well - in fact i liked all the acting. It is the depth to the script which feels lacking.

Time will tell - i'll keep watching.
