False reviews
the_doofy27 December 2015
The fact that this movie has (currently) a 6.3 star rating and has nothing but great reviews by 'viewers' is proof that the movie industry pads their rating via phony identities.

I strongly suspect this sometimes happens on a larger scale for movies with large budgets.

This movie has bad acting across the board, with card board dialogue, thats just a bad combination. The costumes are a little on the phony looking side, the cinematography for this kind of movie just isn't there. The fight scenes are hollow and unoriginal.

The girls are all young and pretty, so it makes me think this movie was put together by some college guys who have lots of money from their parents coming in and free time on their hands.

Trust me, there were no auditions held for this movie.

The very best thing about this movie is that billboard U look at when you are trying to decide to watch it or not. If you see that cool poster and then click into the movie you will be scratching your head, wondering where the movie is.

This movie is not actually worth doing a review on, but viewers are being set up in this case, so I felt like someone needed to give some kind of honest warning if someone decide to peruse the reviews in IMDb.

Disgusting movie
me-me12317 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is surely one of the awful and most disgusting movies i have ever seen with no such one good thing to praise about, poorly directed, poor acting, poor scenes, very poor story but i'm astonished to see 6.3 rating on IMDb, seriously this is the more disgusting than movie. It doesn't even worth 0.1 rating, only the good thing in this movie is that girl he kidnapped.

Sorry for being harsh, i never wrote any review here, this is first one as this awful movie made me write all this!

People should not waste such amount of money in such movies, watchers or producers, both should avoid it

I wish the IMDB rating was true but the reviews and score are fake
Terrible movie. After so much time on IMDB it has gotten easier to spot fake reviews and artificially pumped ratings. This is one of them. The film is complete rubbish.

I always applaud the folks who write and produce these films, as they obviously have a love for the topic, but it stops there.

Total garbage viewing. Scarred and grizzled warriors, all of whom wear nice, brand new leather. Battle-hardened knights, all wearing spotless, shiny armor...both before and after battles. Peasants in villages, all of whom have perfectly white teeth, brand new clothes, and not a spec of dirt on them. If you can get past that stuff, you certainly won't make it past the acting. It's horrible.

Mostly just here to make sure folks to fall for the faulty reviews. Not only is it bad, but it's over 2 hours of bad.

Epic Fantasy... made in Greece !
peter-r-s7 October 2013
The first epic fantasy movie in Greece is finally out. Having seen this in premiere night was something great. The theater was full and the experience was unique. It's a great effort from the team in Greece with lots of love for this genre of movies. The cinematography was really atmospheric and generally the whole feeling of the movie! Dark magic, swords and fighting are here! I enjoyed the acting and the really good music that stays with you, when you leave the theater! There is a correct amount of humor through the movie and a storyline that paces well. DRAGAR IS OUT THERE AND IS LOOKING FOR YOU! don't miss it and remember....BOW TO NONE !!!!

I'M GOING HOME
nogodnomasters12 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a Greek film dubbed haphazardly in English. Otto, for instance had a distinct Jersey accent. Dragar, made to look like the illegitimate son of Tor Johnson, has been a slave for four years and still thinks about his wife. He has been a gladiator fighter. When he is bought by the beautiful Valeria, daughter of a General of the Empire, he is forced to take a bath. He suddenly revolts, takes her as a hostage and is hunted on his return to his homeland.

The setting is similar to ancient Rome with the action taking place in a northern Europe outpost. Otto has a gun to create what would be an anachronism if it wasn't on a planet with three moons. Note the two non-red moons have identical markings, their size is just different. We get the expected Stockholm syndrome as Dragar saves his hostage from a would be rapist, although I am not sure how he got there so fast. PLOT SPECIFIC POINT. You see he did the Butch and Sundance escape, except there was no water. He dislocated his shoulder which he popped back in, good as new, and he was able to rescue aforesaid girl in a matter of moments after dropping off a cliff from her location.

In one tracking scene, the tracker picks up the snow and smells it. What was that about? Now with a name like Dragonphoenix, I would have expected a dragon to arise out of the ashes of another dragon...you know like that red dragon on the front cover flying in the sky. Apparently the DVD cover designer had the same thought. But that was not the case. Instead we get a creature in a large rubber head. The mouth moved a little, but the red eyes looked extremely fake (see reverse cover of DVD). It was laughable.

The "Behind the Scenes" is subtitled during the moments that they speak. We see them doing a lot of choreography, but they still had to jerk the camera around during sword scenes to create excitement.

The title of the film with a subtitle would indicate there was a plan for a series of these films, but as of yet, nothing seems to be in the works. Thanos Kermitsis who wrote, produced, directed and was a camera man in this film also had a major role. Dragar, played by Yannis Rubus Rubulias grunted out lines, making an occasional Jesse Ventura "he was a wimp" speech also helped write, produce and acted as the storyboard artist and set dresser.

Considering the scope and budget, one might heap praise onto the film. Truthfully as entertainment, it ranks only slightly higher than a Rene Perez film. Makes me pine for a SCORPION KING 4 instead.

Guide: Rated Canadian 14. No swearing sex, or nudity. Attempted rape scene.

A great feeling out of the blue
msithis29 June 2018
So this is Greece's first attempt in epic fantasy genre! Was about time! We have mages, warriors, fights. Effects were awesome, costumes as well, epic music, beatiful scenery, and a real nice acting! And regarding the fact that the cost production was only 10.000 euro this deserves a + rate for sure! This movie is most recommended! More than pleasant surprise!

Greek historical adventure, indie style
Leofwine_draca30 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
That the opening quotation manages to misspell Gandhi's name spells ill for THE DRAGONPHOENIX CHRONICLES, a Greek indie historical adventure film with a nonsensical title. And so it proves. This interminable effort strives to follow an action-adventure template a la CENTURION, but comes across as completely insincere thanks to a too-low budget which means that it's uniform and meandering. The photography is cheaper than ever, the actors continually wooden, the events depicted completely mundane. For a film like this to lack even one decent action scene or bit of suspense is a complete travesty.

Greek Epic movie done right.
GeorgeEc5 March 2015
Come on! I mean, most of Greek epic movie attempts were like taking a Cinecittà movie and passing it through Bollywood's worst directors and stuff. I mean, for a parody, some movies were really great. But nobody dared to make a true epic movie.

Until now.

This is the very first movie that is Greek and does everything right. There are some weak spots of course, but for a movie with such limited budget, I can be more than forgiving here.

So, let's begin. What about the story of Indominable? Well it is written and directed by people that know what they are doing and what they are talking about. Conan and Tolkien influence is obvious and this is a good thing. It is about a slave that never bows. It has a world with its own rich lore, its own history and its own ethics. Oh yes! AT LAST! Forget about any fourth wall breaks that pt ethic stereotypes of our world into this fantasy world. Ethics there are original. Well made without mistakes. At last! A movie that isn't full of moral or sentimental bullshit. Well made.

Music. Influenced by Poledouris I suppose. Well made soundtrack.

Costumes. Well, for such a budget, the costumes were a huge success. Fantastic.

Directed very well, using special effects in a very good way. You see, special effects can boost or ruin a movie. Here, the effects were a great boost. The photography of the movie is also stunning, showing a hidden beauty of mountains of Greece. I personally watch Kermitsis films and I can save that he did a great job on making a long film like this one.

Finally, I will close this review mentioning the only weak spot. Some actors, were not doing it right. I say that in general, but be aware that at least two of them, did it wrong and it is obvious. But that's not the case. If the movie had more budget available, there would be more professional actors involved.

So do I recommend it? Of course I do! This is the first serious epic movie that I have seen, it has its own world, its own ethics, it's own lore and gods, it characters with background, a comics series to back the movie's world, and Yannis Roumboulias, the creator of that world wielding an iron sword. What else would you want?

Back to the basics!
pemar-5703310 March 2015
It was a very decent effort. The first Greek epic movie! Very good storyline. familiar story but with several unexpected twists. i need some more boost on acting, was a little hypotonic, and perhaps i am wrong but i find the voice of dragan a little too intellectual for the character (yeah i miss some growl there, darn Hollywood you ruin me..!) Also i miss the colors, more contrasting colors, deeper black, i don't know, it was grey, more like TV movie than for cinema. But seriously, in first play i wanted to see the movie for curiosity reasons but eventually i was truly there, focused. Remind me the classics, you know Conan, Red Sonia, etc bloody, cruel but kind of innocent, back to the basics. I will definitely see the sequel. Good job guys keep going!
