In the first scene of Good Time, the latest from directors Josh and Benny Safdie, Connie Nikas (Robert Pattinson) barges into an office where a social worker is interviewing his brother Nick (Benny Safdie), who has a mental disability and impaired hearing. From there, the two brothers are off to the races, as Benjamin Mercer writes at Reverse Shot:Almost immediately after, Connie is hauling Nick along with him on an ill-conceived robbery of a bank branch in Flushing, Queens. “Do you think I could have done that without you standing next to me, being strong?” Connie reassures Nick right after the job—and just before a paint bomb goes off in their bag of stolen cash, filling the cab they’re in with red vapor and sending it off the road. The accident, an eye-poppingly entropic moment staged by the Safdies and captured as if on the fly by cinematographer Sean Price Williams,...

Idina Menzel has been known to pull audience members on stage for duets during her concerts in the past. But her latest partner just might have her questioning that decision.
During her Sunday concert in Grand Prarie, Texas, a young boy — who Menzel called “the only boy” in the audience — nearly stole the show from the songstress when he belted the chorus of “Let it Go,” her hit song from Disney’s Frozen.
“Every time a boy comes up, he tells me he doesn’t really like this song,” Menzel explained in a video of the performance that’s since...

Disney’s hit 2013 animated movie Frozen is making the jump from the big screen to the stage — and from the first-look footage released Monday, it appears the cast and creators are pulling out all the stops!
The Broadway-bound stage adaptation is prepping its New York City bow with a two month out-of-town tryout at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts beginning Aug. 17.
In the video teaser above, audiences get the chance to go behind the curtain and glimpse into the rehearsal room — all while the creative team (including director Michael Grandage) teases fans on what to expect from the piece,...

Actor & director Vincent Perez is every bit as European as his name would suggest. Born in Switzerland to a German mother and a Spanish father, Perez first cut his teeth playing classical roles in some of the most popular French movies of the 1990s, and went on to star in Cyrano de Bergerac (Jean-Paul Rappeneau, 1990), La Reine Margot (Patrice Chéreau, 1994) and Indochine (Régis Wargnier, 1992) to name but a few.
Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of meeting Vincent for an interview and asked him about his new movie Alone In Berlin, which he co-wrote as well as directed. Adapted from Hans Fallada’s popular 1947 novel by the same name, the film tells the story of a law abiding German couple and their quiet resistance during Nazi rule in Berlin. Staring Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson, Alone In Berlin has so far been met with mixed reviews,...

A mawkish coming-of-age story that marries Sundance vibes with a soft punk spirit, Peter Livolsi’s “The House of Tomorrow” never manages to flesh out its skeleton of quirks, but its heart is definitely in the right place.
Very faithfully adapted from Peter Bognanni’s 2010 novel of the same name, Livolsi’s directorial debut is — after “Brigsby Bear” and “The Space Between Us” — at least the third new film this year that falls into the beguiling sub-genre of movies about young men who’ve been raised in isolation from the rest of the world. The stranger life gets, the more we might be compelled towards portraits of people who can stand outside of civilization and offer a new perspective on the mess we’ve made (in which case, we ought to brace for this sub-genre to get a lot bigger between now and 2020).
This one begins in a geodesic dome in the woods of Minnesota,...

Okay, it's time for me to stop trying to listen to more 2016 albums and just wrap up this list. In the past I would split my jazz list into a new releases part dedicated to current recordings and a historical part combining first releases of archival material with reissues. This year I'm skipping reissues, partly because some projects were so gargantuan that little guys like me weren't serviced with them, partly because the vinyl renaissance means everything is being reissued at once, and partly because so much stuff is just rehashing the same material in new packaging, with or without a gimmick or a little additional material added. So first releases of archival material are lumped in here. Maybe that's not entirely fair to the current guys, but on the other hand I don't include many archival items on my list.

Prague brought surprises as Anna, Carrie, and Austin all showed up during the hunt for Stefano, while back in Salem, Chloe woke up just as Deimos and Nicole got engaged.
Our TV Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Emmy from MyHourglass a Days of Our Lives fan forum as they debate whether Anna, Carrie and Austin should stick around, if Jj’s cut out to be a detective, and what Chloe should do next on Days of Our Lives.
Do you want Anna, Carrie, and Austin to stick around for awhile?
Jack: Yes and no. I was excited that they were returning but their appearance was ridiculous and pointless. I don't want this urn-toting, completely out of her mind version of Anna with Carrie and Austin babysitting her. At all.
Emmy: Anna, Carrie and Austin are three different characters, so I will answer separately. I definitely would...
