ikshulnew21 May 2020
It was a long, hard, extremely painful road, but you are finally here, and you deserve every single moment of it!!! I have tears of sheer happiness in my eyes. The most beautiful character ever created in the most deep and poignant anime arc ever created of the most beautiful, soulful, symbolic anime ever created, finally gets everything we have wanted him to get since this beautiful show began all those years ago!

Best Payoff of the Show (so far)

Warning: Spoilers
1st time watching Naruto and I genuinely did not expect this show to make me cry the way it did during the scene where Kakashi catches Naruto and carries him to where the entire village was waiting for him. This is one of if not the deepest, most beautiful character arcs in any anime I've ever seen. Seeing Naruto go from village idiot to the chosen one/on the rise hokage is truly special television and I'm so glad I made the investment to watch this amazing show.

The Hero of Konoha
tomasmmc-7719828 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode ends Pain's arc. The arc had some inconsistencies, some incoherent parts, strange decisions on the development, but, the beginning and the ending were pretty great. Starts with Kakashi and his father Sakumo. After telling his story, Sakumo ponders how they died young, though not as young as Kakashi's mother. Then, Kakashi wonders why his father decided to save his friends instead of fulfilling the mission, that way, the villagers would have not turned against him, and he wouldn't have closed to everyone. Sakumo realizes how hard was for him, but Kakashi now tells that he knows he did his best, he is proud of his father, the man who chose to save his friends. Sakumo thanks him. Suddenly, a green ray catches Kakashi, and his father tells that his time has not come yet. As his son disappears, giving one last look at his father, Sakumo is glad about their talk, now he can rest in peace, and reunite with his wife. Back at Konoha, all the dead people return to life, including Shizune, and Fukasaku. Choji and Choza welcome Kakashi, Shima hugs her husband, Ino welcomes Shizune. Katsuyu tells them what Naruto did, and Kakashi overhears. Inoichi and Shikaku also realize what happened, and the latter tells that Naruto did what he wanted to do. In the meantime, Nagato, now looking older and with white hair, tells Naruto what Jiraiya said when he decided to take care of them, it's the least he can do to compensate for the damage. He says this after resurrecting the ones murdered during the assault. He knows how hard is to lose the beloved persons, that's the hardest thing. Loving, caring so much for beloved ones and then losing them, makes persons believe that they shouldn't die. So the war, death lead to hate, pain that has consumed him, now he realizes. He gives his last words, and warns Naruto that his generation doesn't know war, and that in the future, he is going to face that, the hatred generated by war. Still, he entrusts him the way to stop it, and dies. Then, the tree fades away, and Konan covers Nagato's and Yahiko's bodies with paper. He tells Naruto that she will leave Akatsuki, Nagato and Yahiko were everything to her. If he trusted him, she will too, Amegakure will support him. Their dreams were passed to him. Naruto acknowledges what his sensei, and his superior student left him: his name, the will to never give up, and the pain. Konan gives him paper flowers of hope, that will never wither, and leaves with her fellows. Then, Naruto raises a grave, a memorial for Jiraiya, placing the flowers and the book. This first part was excellent, and the appropiate ending for Nagato, Konan, and Yahiko. The grave was a detail I loved, was soemthing Jiraiya deserved since the day he died. Everyone should have a place to remember their beloved ones. As Nagato explains, his last act was a compensation. Jiraiya said that taking care of the Ame orphans was the least he could do, because he knew that Konoha was partially responsible for the war. Then, Nagato's words about how seems everything was planned, the concidences, like if God was watching over, that was a reference to the creator of the story. Konan's decision was good, would be a great idea if she rules the Hidden Rain village, and one day forms an alliance with Naruto as Hokage. She is part of Jiraiya's legacy as well. The paper flowers, another nice detail. About the resurrection, it was sad to see that Kakashi was actually dead, or somewhere close, but still, his conversation with his father was very well written. Maybe persons who commit suicide stay on a mid place until there's a closure with their beloved ones. Who knows, that's the theory presented here. At least, Kakashi's experience allowed Sakumo to reunite with his wife.

Then, the second part shows Naruto walking through the forest, but he feels the exhaustion. When he is about to fall, Kakashi catches him on his back, like all the times during his training. Naruto is surprised, and gladly leans on his sensei's shoulder. He slowly takes him back to Konoha, where everyone is waiting. All the crowd cheers, and a stunned Naruto sees all the people happily claiming for him. The children eager arrive close to him, he is nervous, he didn't expected such welcome, and tell them not to shove. And then, Sakura is shown walking towards Naruto. The people let her, and when she reaches him, calls him rash, dummy and punches him. But then, she hugs him closely, thanking him, for everything. Kakashi, and Naruto himself is stunned, by the nice close appreciative gesture of Sakura towards Naruto (that was true love). Everyone around smiles and keeps celebrating the hero's return. This part was special. Naruto was welcomed as the hero of the village, and since he was a kid he wanted to be acknowledged, he wanted someone to notice his existence, and that's why he looked forward to becoming Hokage. Now, he gets the recognition, he's glad but obviously wasn't used to it. Kakashi was the best person to take him back, other than Iruka. He is Minato's student after all. Probably there could have been a small talk between them, Naruto now knows who is his father, and he knows that Kakashi was his pupil. Anyway, Naruto was tired, it was very well to see the welcome like it was. And then, Sakura's reunion with Naruto was the best. She is the one who knows Naruto more than the rest, they have shared a lot of time together since they met. Along Iruka, Kakashi, Jiraiya and Tsunade, she is the most important person for Naruto, the one who stood with him since the beginning of the story. She gave him the support he needed and wanted, the care, and even the love. The first light punch and familiar words were a way to tell how much he made her worry about him. And then, Sakura showing that hug, such gesture of affection towards Naruto in front of everyone was not only to tell the other cheering girls to "back off", was also to prove that she has been the most close person to him on the process to become the hero of Konoha. Seeing the reactions, in Hinata wasn't seen any sign of jealousy, she smiled, like recognizing and accepting the situation. And in some ways, it's like the chapter 166 didn't happen. Naruto didn't go to talk to Hinata. He was simply stunned for the joyful welcome, and accepted Sakura's hug, which is what he deserved. Also, the way everyone let Sakura go with Naruto, it's because in the village they know who she is. People know about Naruto, Jiraiya, Sakura and Tsunade.

On a third part, Iruka, Ebisu, and Konohamaru talk about the hero. Iruka tells that he prefers watching from the distance, simply enjoying the moment. Ebisu recalls how at first everyone wanted to stay away from Naruto because of the Kyuubi. And is showed a sequence of how his and the villagers perception changed during all the storyline: about the mission when Zabuza was defeated, some complimented Kakashi. But then, Naruto started to be acknowledged in the Chunin exams. People got surprised when he defeated Neji. The battle with Gaara (that should have been known for the village), was heard by some, and Naruto was recognized. When Tsunade was welcomed as the 5th Hokage, people learned and saw Jiraiya and his pupil accompanying her. Sasuke's departure was also a known event, and so was Naruto's failure on the mission. Time passed, and people respected him more thanks to Jiraiya. The rescue of Gaara was clapped by the village, as Suna and Konoha were finally at a lasting peace. The news about Akatsuki flew, and people started to care about Naruto's safety (though this includes Danzo, Homura, and Koharu). News of Jiraiya's death reached everyone too, and the same worries ran in some villagers. This sequence, not included on the manga, was important to see the evolution of the villagers point of view. They finally saw Naruto as Naruto Uzumaki, a shinobi able to protect the village and help the others, and not as the jinchuriki of the Kyuubi. Ebisu is glad of how Naruto changed the people's hearts. Then, Shikamaru is surprised of how Naruto did it all alone, while Ino says she could even fall in love with him (the funny joke). Lee admires his friend, as he usually did, Gai mentions the spirit of youth. Soon, Kiba, Sakura, Lee, Ino, and others raise Naruto on the air, finally triumphant, having achieved his dream. Iruka cries of joy, as he thinks "Lord 3rd, Lord 4th, I'm watching a hero". Surely it was a perfect finale for the arc, and could have been a much more better finale for the story of Naruto, in comparison to the real one. Yet, there's only one thing that was left on the air here: Tsunade. Looks like she never died, otherwise she would be celebrating. But she's unconcious, or in a coma. This is sad, because she deserved to see Naruto's welcome, she believed in him as much as Sakura, Jiraiya, Kakashi, and Iruka. With her presence, the episode would have been perfect. Then, this excellent ending, without Sasuke, tells that he is not really needed after all. The character has become not relevant to create a great finale on Naruto's storyline. Anyway, the character still needs a closure, after what happened with Killer B, and the known parts, but now it's clear that Naruto, Sakura, Konoha don't need him. It is what it is, or in any case, this is how it looked on this arc. As for the rest, great soundtrack, the storytelling, the added sequence, cinematography, all was very well done. An emotive, consistent, finale for Naruto. Sadly, the story continued with a sharpest decline from here.
