He's the man who "invented world music" and who created the first ever music video using Plasticine. Yes, we're talking about '70s rock legend Brian Pern - the frontman of Thotch.
Ok, Brian Pern might not be real, but Simon Day and Rhys Thomas's surreal music doc spoof is so on the money, it feels like Pern and Thotch are very much the bona fide article. Is the Day of the Triffids album not on iTunes yet?
With incredible guest appearances from the likes of Roger Moore, Martin Freeman and Kathy Burke, Brian Pern: A Life in Rock is the funniest TV show on right now.
We caught up with Day and Thomas to chat about its success.
First things first, I was a huge fan of your last comedy show Bellamy's People.
Simon Day: "Oh, don't get us started on that."
Honestly, I loved it. That didn't get a second series.

Richard Madden has reflected on Sirens and its new Us remake, admitting that he was not satisfied with the original show.
The Klondike star played paramedic Ashley in Channel 4's 2011 comedy-drama, which was dropped after a single series but has since been remade for Us television.
"I'm not [surprised about the remake] 'cos America always do that with British shows!" Madden laughed.
He revealed to Digital Spy: "I'm keen to see it, because I loved making Sirens but I don't think the end product was as good as it could have been, to be honest.
"Everyone was wary of going down that dark comedy path and really pushing it. I think we touched on it, but I think we could've gone further if the scripts had been a bit stronger and there'd been less fear behind it."

The U.S. version of UK series Sirens will make its debut in March. The original featured three Emt’s, one of whom (played by Game Of Thrones‘ Richard Madden) was gay. Will that gay character survive the American reboot? Considering that this version is produced and co-written by Denis Leary … I don’t even want to think about it.

Hollyoaks
I liked the idea of the guys getting together for Riley's memorial service, even if Doug and Riley’s friendship was very contrived and never really utilized that often. If I recall correctly, Riley was close friends with Ethan and Noah and Doug was the drug dealing lowlife who moved into Noah’s apartment. Doug and Riley's close bond was an off camera creation of the writer, so their supposed friendship never rang true to me. Still I enjoyed the scenes, even if they were bad manipulations of the plot at best.
But even more contrived was Ally being invited to the memorial. Ally and Riley were not friends and I don’t think they ever had much to do with each other. There was no reason for him to be there other than to stir things up with Ste, when there were other ways to accomplish that.

For fans of the TV drama Cold Case, here’s some news to keep you entertained; Variety reports that Kathryn Morris, who plays Lilly Rush on the show, is set to lead the indie rom-com Confections of a Discarded Woman, with Motion Picture Corp. of America producing.
Michael Damian will be helming the project, from a script he co-wrote with Janeen Damian. Morris will be playing “a pampered Manhattan housewife who has it all until her husband unexpectedly dumps her for his acupuncturist. Faced with an airtight pre-nup” she is forced to take “a job making cupcakes at her father’s bakery in Hackensack, where she discovers that true love can be even sweeter on the other side of the Hudson.”
Now it may not be my type of movie, but this could be a good way for Morris to make a stamp on the big screen. She had a part in Minority Report,...

One thing is becoming very apparent: the live-action adaptation of 'Akira' has no need for Japanese actors. It's just life when you're dealing with a big-budget Americanization. According to THR, 'Tron Legacy' star, Garret Hedlund has definitely snatched up the role of Mr. Kaneda to you, punks, but he's still without his biker buddy-turned-psychic menace, Tetsuo. Ezra Miller ('We Need to Talk About Kevin') and Alden Ehrenreich ('Tetro') were previously said to be pursuing the role. Miller shot down his involvement, but Ehrenreich is still in contention. He has some serious competition, though. THR has added a slew of actors to the list of those testing: D.J. Cotrona ('Detroit 1-8-7,' 'G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation') Logan Marshal Green ('Devil,' 'Prometheus') Toby Kebbell ('War Horse,' 'Wrath of the Titans') Richard Madden ('Game of Thrones,' 'Sirens'...

Just two hours after ITV’s Kenny Everett tribute show, the new Channel 4 sitcom Sirens began tonight and it got off to quite an interesting start. It probably equaled the beginning of Four Weddings and a Funeral for most uses of the f-word in 30 seconds but even if you didn’t care for the dialogue, you must admit that it was great to hear Angry Anderson’s classic love song “Suddenly” playing in the background. The gory shot of a car crash victim was a bit unnecessary but in fairness the nice announcer did warn us that it would be graphic from the start.
Now to the comedy. It wasn’t exactly slapstick but neither was it in the mold of quasi-realistic shows like the Royal Family.

Sirens starts on UK TV this week, and the last episode of Caprica turns up, too. Plus, there's a whole lot of movies to enjoy...
Movies will be doing the heavy lifting throughout the upcoming week, as we spy very little on the telly horizon in the lull before the launch of most new and returning shows.
The lone newcomer, Sirens, has a lot of potential in its cast and subject. Unless you've seen the shockingly funny Four Lions, you may know the voice better than the face of Kayvan Novak, recognisable to ears of fans of Fonejacker. And followers of Game Of Thrones will be instantly familiar with Richard Madden, who plays Robb Stark in that series.

It has been announced that Rescue Me star, Denis Leary has signed on to develop and co-write a half-hour pilot with Bob Fisher (“Wedding Crashers,” “Traffic Light”) for USA.
The pilot is an adaptation of the British television six-part series “Sirens” which was inspired by Emt paramedic Tom Reynolds’ book, “Blood, Sweat and Tea.” The pilot, which is one of a handful of USA pilots that have recently been announced, follows the humorous antics and dramatic conflicts of young paramedics. The senior vice president of original scripted programming for USA, Bill McGoldrick had this to say on the pilot’s genre: “We are still finUding our way in the genre but we know for certain that our half hours will be written and produced by creators with a specific and unique point of view.” Hmm. In his first series writing gig since FX's Rescue Me, Denis Leary is set to co-pen an adaptation of the upcoming British series Sirens for USA Network. Leary will co-write the half-hour project about the antics of young paramedics with Bob Fisher, who most recently adapted another foreign comedy format, Israeli’s Traffic Light, for Fox. Leary and Fisher will executive produce with Leary's producing partner at Apostle Jim Serpico, and Hal Vogel and David Aukin of Daybreak Pictures. Apostle will co-produce with Fox TV Studios, where the company has an overall deal for cable projects, in association with Daybreak. (For broadcast series, Apostle has a pact with CBS TV Studios.) It was during a general meeting Leary, Serpico and FtvS execs took with USA that Leary and Serpico mentioned Sirens. The USA brass were eager to get in business with the producers and asked to see a script of the British series.
