These sisters have big problems!
Chartreuse127 August 2022
Darcie and Hannah are siblings with Gillian as their foster mom who is married to Keith. Gillian wants to adopt them! Hannah ends up missing one night and even her boyfriend doesn't know where she is because she was supposed to see him but they never hooked up! They file a missing persons report but the detectives on the case are clueless. However, there's a shocking mystery uncovered in Hannah's phone by Darcie that could lead to whether Hannah is still alive and exactly where she is! Will Darcie get to her in time? This is another Lifetime mystery movie that retreads the same old trope. The Canadian cast and the script are fine, though. Recommended for a watch!

Predictable and very similar to the movie that aired a week before it.

Full disclosure, I turned this movie off as soon as I figured out what was happening....because a very similar plot was used in a movie that premiered the Friday before this one. Literally the role was the same and actually the clues were the same because I figured out the villain very early in the movie due to a certain character's behavior. It was obvious. "Twists" in Lifetime movies are so rare that what I guessed was happening was 100% right and the movie played it very straight with not even a hint of a twist. This movie aired as part of Stranger Danger month, and SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER even that was misdirection.

Now I can be a cynic when it comes to these movies, but I do give credit when it's due. There have been some good ones this year, but this isn't one of them. It's watchable but nothing special. I give the movie props because the sisters truly looked like sisters and there was a sweet and touching family scene before Hannah got taken.

Poorly written with forced overacted performances

I can't speak to the story that was told because we turned it off after the first 20 minutes. It was excruciating. The acting was way over the top and stiff. The dialog was hilariously unbelievable, especially the father.. The whole thing kind of reminded me of a 1980's porn flick without the porn. All it needed was cheesy soundtrack. This had to be written by someone with zero experience and no idea how people speak or react in real life. I think that to even equate this to a lifetime movie would be a stretch. I find it unbelievable that a movie studio would actually release this more less charge people to watch it.

Horrible, No other words to describe it!

Warning: Spoilers
Oh where do I start? The acting was abysmal (as usual), the storyline has been done to death, and the reveal towards the climax was so obvious and unsurprising. I knew from the start that it was the dad who kidnapped the girl to keep his trafficking business a secret. The movie tried to point the finger at Caleb and his mother, but their motives weren't strong enough.

The stepmom's acting was the worst out of all of them. When she accidentally spilled the glue on the floor, her crying was not even the tiniest bit convincing. I think the entire cast of this stinker could use some extra acting lessons cause' COME ON! It was like a school theater production where they read the script from a small piece of paper or writing on their hand. On the other hand, this feels like an insult to high school theaters, because they could pull it off way better than this talentless excuse of a movie.

Just another rehashed trope with daughter-having-big-argument-with-mother-and-ends-up-running-away-and-eventually-goes-missing. The other movies that I've seen follow this same exact storyline were so much better and far more enjoyable. This one had nothing going for it.

Also, can we talk about the title for a moment? "Dying For a Family"? It makes absolutely no sense at all. When hearing a title like that you would think that the movie would be about somebody obsessed with having the perfect family! That's not what happened in the movie at all! Whoever came up with the new title did NOT watch this entire thing from beginning to end and it showed.

P. S. This movie actually came out last year, but this is my first time watching it as I did not get the chance to see it back when it first premiered. It aired on LMN yesterday so that's why I'm writing a review for it now!

Overall I'm rating this 2 stars out of ten!

extremely basic filmaking,...

With not too much scholard actors, a very transparent and shining towards you tv production over the topic of ''dissappearance'', where the search is on to find the missing bloodband of family, a genre that has met its oversaturated levels of squemishness do to a hoard made of its kin, and success is hard to find.

A freakingly dull start, the desperation in the story just as you expect, but its twists and turns aint original nor exciting.

This is a film for the medicaly dependents of tv-screen entertainment, where all is done in crisp clear atmosphere, the technical production is dull and where the acting is juust there at the average. Might shake the foundations to people having gone through the same in real life, but daft and dull for a grumpy old man, a max of 4, no recommend.

Alaska Leigh!!!
sofiaradchenko12 September 2022
An incredible movie that held my attention for the entire film and kept me on the edge of my seat. I take pride in my ability to solve mysteries before the movie reveals them, but Dying For a Family had me questioning every turn! The stand out of the movie to me is the performance of Alaska Leigh (Hannah). Everything I've seen her in glows, her energy lights up a screen and you can't seem to take your eyes off her. When she speaks it's so natural you almost forget you're watching a film and not talking to a friend. The film has a perfectly balanced recipe, you never get bored and the dialogue is so well written and natural yet Alaska still makes it her own. She absorbs the character Hannah and plays her with her whole chest. 10/10!
