Profound story of life, work, and the decline of the American working class
daleuchter24 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's a story that really could have been set in any other Rust Belt town, and indeed probably should have been, but this movie really brings it home to Detroit. Automobiles--a gas station--a father's untimely death--a book on the Vietnam War--it's a combustible mix of foreshadowing and metaphor that ultimately leads up to Michael Peck's self-immolation.

It's an iconic Detroit film that touches on all the big topics and visual images of the Motor City--the Packard Plant, shuttered factories, bars on the windows, foreclosure, and hard-drinking autoworkers. Altogether, this should be on anyone's essential list of short films about Detroit and the decline of the American auto industry. It's a totally unique, and under- appreciated, contribution.
