Even by Waking The Dead's standards this is dark and horrifying. The cast is uniformly excellent as is everything else about this disturbing story that brings to an end this series. Like a lot of the stories in this show it is not easy viewing but very compelling. Nasty stuff and all the better for it.

Quite wonderful.

Boyd is given a promotion, and given a desk job, naturally he resists, but decides to bow out with one last case, the deaths of more than a dozen teenage boys between 79 and 82.

They certainly decided to end with a bang, Waterloo remains one of the best things to have come out of The BBC for the last twenty years.

An incredibly dramatic and bold opening segment, is followed by a great, and apt storyline, it's right that the final case should feature homeless teens, with Boyd's past, it seems to fit the bill.

It literally does see everything heading towards point zero, we have the big chat between Boyd and Grace, and some action surrounding Sarah.

Crime fans will be aware of the case of Henry Holmes, a prolific serial killer, worth reading about.

Writer Ed Whitmore has written several of my favourite things over the years, he's an awesome writer, this is perhaps my favourite thing he's written.

An awesome start to the finale, 10/10.
