Exclusive: Jimmy Wolk is the first actor cast in Political Animals, USA Network’s 6-episode drama series from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, which premieres this summer. Written by Berlanti, his first solo spec script since Everwood, the Washington DC-based series explores a fictional former first family that is on the verge of falling apart. The show, produced by Warner Horizon, centers on Elaine Barrish, a divorced former First Lady and current Secretary of State who struggles to keep her family together while dealing with the crises of the State Department. Wolk will play one of her sons, Doug, who has the makings of a formidable future politician and serves as his mom’s chief of staff. This marks the second DC series project for Wolk – he starred in the ABC pilot Georgetown last year, which was produced by Warner Horizon’s sibling Warner Bros. TV. The former Lone Star leading man,...

Lone Star's James Wolk to Guest Star on Happy Endings
Lone Star may have been the first casualty of last year's fall season and Georgetown may not have been picked up for this season, but that hasn't stopped James Wolk from remaining rather busy lately. Following news that he'll be appearing on the second season of Showtime's Shameless, it appears that Wolk is ready for a Happy Ending or two.
TV Line is reporting that Wolk will be playing Max's (former high school) boyfriend that gets close to him again on multiple episodes of Happy Endings. No word on when his first episode will air, but this is a good sign for the show, as none of the single members of the cast (Max, Penny, Dave, Alex) have had a recurring significant other, so this is a welcome bit of world building.

James Wolk has scored a multi-episode arc in the upcoming second season of Showtime's "Shameless." The premium cable network announced on Friday (July 8) that Wolk will play Adam, an investment executive who "makes a connection with Fiona (Emmy Rossum)." And on "Shameless," we all know what "makes a connection" means. Wolk was the star of Fox's "Lone Star," one of the best reviewed new dramas of the 2010-2011 TV season. "Lone Star" lasted for two episodes. Wolk was then cast as one of the leads in the drama pilot "Georgetown." ABC opted not to send "Georgetown" to series....

Fewer soaps, fewer awards?
At the very least, the Natl. Academy of Television Arts & Sciences could explore having fewer candidates in some of the soap categories say Michael Maloney in a new article for Variety. While five has been the standard number of noms in each acting category, some feel that number should be lower because the genre has dropped three serials in recent years.
"They do need to change," says Peter Bergman, a three-time Daytime Emmy lead actor winner for his role on The Young And The Restless as Jack Abbott. "You can't have five (nominees) with only six shows. If you do, you may as well throw one from every show in."
"I don't think there should be younger actor or actress categories," says Christian Jules LeBlanc.

Yay for more pretty people on our televisions!
Deadline reports "Undercovers" star Boris Kodjoe has joined the ABC pilot "Georgetown," which is shaping up to be the home of one of the most attractive casts. Ever. In the history of television.
The pilot from "Gossip Girl's" Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage is an ensemble drama about young staffers on Capitol Hill.
So who will Kodjoe be playing? The Democratic president's fiercely intelligent senior adviser. Kodjoe joins a cast that includes "Lone Star's" James Wolk, "Gossip Girl's" Kevin Zegers and Katie Cassidy, "Vampire Diaries'" Tiya Sircar and "Persons Unknown's" Daisy Betts. We repeat: One of the most attractive casts ever.

Boris Kodjoe gets another shot to shine on prime-time TV.
The Undercovers heartthrob has reportedly joined the cast of ABC’s upcoming new hour-long political drama titled Georgetown (formerly known as Inner Circle).
The ensemble cast series will center on a group of young and sexy Capitol Hill staffers – specifically, the young people behind the Washington, DC power brokers.
It’s described as “a sexy soap.”
Mr Kodjoe will play the Democratic president’s “fiercely intelligent senior adviser.”
Will Fetters (screenwriter for the Clint Eastwood/Beyonce A Star Is Born remake – so they’re really moving ahead with that, huh?) penned the series, and will also serve as executive producer.
Look for this to debut during the 2011/2012 TV season.

The ABC pilot "Georgetown" has us here at TVOvermind buzzing with excitement, anticipation, and that little shred of hope that Josh Schwartz, who serves as executive producer on the pilot, can strike lightening in a bottle twice as he did with the pop culture sensation The O.C., Chuck, and Gossip Girl. The pilot/show, which was created by Will Fetters ("Remember Me"), will center around a group of 20 somethings as they lead professional and personal lives among Washington D.C.'s elite. The group of sexy Quarter-lifers is led by Lonestar's James 'Jimmy' Wolk, who is joined by the likes of Kevin Zeger (Gossip Girl), Tiya Sircar (The Vampire Diaries), Joseph Mazzello ("The Social Network") and the "can do no wrong" Katie Cassidy. It's a damn fine recipe for some good "Omg!" television that we can't wait to have our first taste of, Od on it, and then ask for more afterwards.

Josh Schwartz, as we know, has had much success in the realm of television, producing The Oc, Gossip Girl and Chuck, all of which have made their mark on the television landscape. When it was announced that he was working on two new shows I was rather excited, when it was announced that Rachel Bilson would be the star of one this excitement went up ten fold, especially as she really hasn't been as good as she was as Summer Roberts in The Oc or as her guest appearance on Chuck.
So what are both show about and how will Scott Porter and Kevin Zegers fit in? Well first up is Hart of Dixie which will air on The CW and the central premise is that Rachel Bilson plays Dr. Zoe Hart, who moves from practicing medicine in the fast pace of New York City to a small Southern town...

CBS has tapped Dylan Walsh to star opposite Poppy Montgomery in a drama pilot.
The show, officially the "untitled Redlich/Bellucci project" and also known as "The Rememberer," stars Montgomery ("Without a Trace") as Carrie Wells, a former detective gifted/cursed with the ability to remember absolutely everything. Walsh ("Nip/Tuck") will play the head of an NYPD detective squad and former boyfriend of Carrie's, Deadline reports.
Walsh's character comes back into contact with Carrie as he's investigating a murder near her apartment and brings her on as a consultant.
The pilot continues a relationship Walsh has had with CBS for the past year or so. He starred in a pilot called "The Line" last year and was attached to a different drama project earlier this season; the latter didn't make it to the pilot stage.
