It turned out to be rather mundane...

I hadn't even heard about the 2011 movie "Dick Night" from writer and director Andy Viner prior to sitting down here in 2020 to watch it. The movie's title definitely is an attention catcher, that's for sure. I had to read the synopsis for the movie, though, before sitting down to watch the movie. And I must say that I found the synopsis to be interesting. It seemed like this could be a good movie.

And now that I've sat through the movie, I must say that the movie wasn't as good as I had dared to hope it to be. Sure, it was watchable, but it was hardly an memorable movie experience. Nor were it actually a movie that offered a whole lot in the entertainment department.

The storyline was straight forward, but it was suffering from being too weak and thin. The story was lacking some more proper and more thought-through contents.

And I was definitely lured in by the promise of vampires in a horror comedy. But they don't show up before the last quarter of the movie, and then it was far too late. And it didn't help much that this was such a disappointing vampire creature feature.

The acting in the movie, however, was good. Just a shame that the actors and actresses were struggling with a thin and rather mundane plot and storyline.

My rating of "Dick Night" is a four out of ten stars. I managed to sit through the movie, but I was not overly entertained. And this is by no means a movie that I will be watching a second time.

Plot utterly lost.

The first third of the movie was actually rather enjoyable. Nothing spectacular, but it established the characters well and featured a decent script with decent acting and decent cinematography.

The second third of the movie was tedious, as if the script had been handed over to a new writer, or if the writer stepped out of his comfort zone into an area he simply didn't understand (or at least didn't understand how to deal with). Around this time the production values started heading south (seriously, how hard is it to filter out hard-surface resonance in post-production? Get a free copy of Audacity to do it!), as did the acting (though the latter may have been caused by the tedium of the script in this section).

The final third was just a free-for-all, falling to the depths of what seems to be painfully common in movies these days - something reminiscent of a high school kid weekend assignment. Camera all over the place, horrid acting, and not a shred of coherent script anywhere to be found.

It started out so promising, shame the effort didn't continue all the way through - it could've been great.

Must of had and issues with the title. Movie has been re-released for 2020 as 'Rachel Gets Strange'. Same movie with uninspired plot.

Kept my attention Honestly loved Rachel and maybe even her future roommate dynamic. But this movie was like a limp dick- so full of promise but failed to deliver. Was delighted to see what this movie was originally called and made more sense.

Above average

Warning: Spoilers
I am always curious when a movie older than 3 years doesn't have many reviews to it, so I like to watch it and give you folks a honest review without gong on.

It's like some kind of coming of age story, but with 20's or 30's something on the lower end of a budget.

Nothing much for the first 50 minutes, apart from a long winded character development. After that it was ok.

I couldn't help thinking that it would make a great stage play, obviously much shorter than 72 minutes this went for.

Characters were not wooden and played their part well. The interaction between Rachel and the interested men was entertaining, wish that there was more of it, that's where the comedy was.

Worth the effort to watch, but be prepared for that slow start.

What did you expect of a movie called dick night?
ninamissshit11 August 2020
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this one. Particularly it's comedy. And it was suspensful at times as well. Overall an 8, because I didn't even expect it to be that epic and was still positively surprised. A decently done combo of good acting for the most part, funny lines and reactions and thrilling scenes. If you're not here just to be critical then give it a chance..

Mistitled - Funnier and better than expected
lisarough-4618127 October 2020
So I watched this movie under a different title - Rachel Gets Strange. I thought it was hilarious and more interesting and unique than I expected. Don't go into this with the expectation of a dirty, raunchy comedy a la American Pie. It's a low-budget, underrated horror comedy and actually much better and funnier than these reviews imply.
