Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story. The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home.

“The Home” has found a home at Lionsgate, TheWrap has learned. The Santa Monica-based studio snapped up domestic distribution rights to the Miramax horror thriller. Pete Davidson headlines while James DeMonaco helmed the feature. The picture is about a former foster child who begins working in a retirement home. Spoiler: The elderly residents and their caretakers have some very diabolical secrets.
The former “Saturday Night Live” castmember previously co-starred in the A24 horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” However, this will presumably be a more straightforward (or straight-faced) shocker. DeMonaco previously wrote and directed the first three “The Purge” films and has remained relatively hands-on with the franchise.
“We went into ‘The Home’ not knowing what to expect and James and Pete delivered an exhilarating ride of a movie that is pure suspense-filled fun and just plain bonkers,” stated Charlotte Koh. Lionsgate’s EVP of acquisitions and co-productions boasted that “Audiences...

If you’ve been scoring from home, this goes down as another deal from TIFF 2023. After a slow start, the festival has led to a wellspring of film deals, one of the fest’s strongest showings in years.
The deal closed after the exit last week of Miramax CEO Bill Block, who made the film and placed it at TIFF. On the Lionsgate side was Charlotte Koh, EVP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, along with the film’s producers, Block and Sebastian K. Lemercier. Look for this one to get a theatrical release in the early part of 2024.

Over five low-budget box office hits and a two-season TV series, “The Purge” saga — which portrays a not-too-distant-future America where all crimes, including murder, are legal for one night a year in order to satiate a bloodthirsty public — swelled into a $450 million franchise. But the first chapter was almost never made.
While the film became the defining hit of writer and director James DeMonaco’s career, he says the script was passed over “40-50 times” for being seen as “too anti-American.”
“I had this little, strange, dark indictment of American gun culture,” he said. “I hate guns. To me, the scariest thing in the world would be a night where everyone was armed and it was legal to use these firearms. To me, there was nothing scarier than that notion.”
Ultimately, the film got the attention of super-producer Jason Blum, who “saw something bigger in the conceit,” said DeMonaco. Soon,...

Billy Porter (Pose) and frequent collaborator Dan McCabe (Fruits of Thy Labor) have been tapped to script a James Baldwin biopic for Byron Allen‘s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures, with the former also to realize his longtime dream of portraying the cultural icon.
The film will be based on the 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography by David Leeming, an emeritus professor of English at the University of Connecticut who was a friend of Baldwin’s for 25 years, as well as his assistant.
A gay, African American writer and civil rights activist born in Harlem who wrote critically acclaimed and influential essays, novels, plays and poems, Baldwin’s best-known works include Go Tell It on the Mountain, Notes of a Native Son, Another Country, The Fire Next Time, Giovanni’s Room and If Beale Street Could Talk. Billy Porter is preparing to portray the author and civil rights activist James Baldwin in an upcoming biopic.
He will also co-write the untitled movie with Dan McCabe, which will be adapted from the 1994 book “James Baldwin: A Biography” by David Leeming. An emeritus professor of English at the University of Connecticut, Leeming was well-versed in the world of Baldwin as his friend of 25 years as well as his assistant.
Porter says it has been a career-long dream to tell the story of Baldwin on film. Born in Harlem in 1924, Baldwin was a Black gay writer whose influential works include “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” “Notes of a Native Son” and “If Beale Street Could Talk.” In addition to writing, Baldwin fought for racial justice in the U.S. civil rights movement. Pose star Billy Porter is set to play James Baldwin in a feature based on the life of the legendary novelist, essayist and activist for Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures.
Porter and Dan McCabe will pen the script for the theatrical feature based on David Leeming’s 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography. Broadway-trained Porter is a longtime devotee of Baldwin, having quoted from the legendary author and civil rights campaigner during his 2019 Emmy-winning acceptance speech.
The deep dive into Baldwin’s life and struggles represents the culmination of a long-held creative ambition for the Emmy-, Tony- and Grammy Award-winning performer, who is one Oscar short of an Egot. “As a Black queer man on this planet with relative consciousness, I find myself, like James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I am because James was. His infamous Bde has been the topic of conversation over the years while he's built up a roster of former flames and popularity in the media.

It's the end of an era. After eight years, Pete Davidson has said goodbye to "Saturday Night Live." The "King of Staten Island" star bid farewell to the series during the "Weekend Update" segment of the May 21 season finale, joking that executive producer Lorne Michaels "accidentally gifted me a sock, so I'm free."
Throughout the segment, Davidson nodded to his storied dating history while also squeezing in plenty of his trademark self-deprecating jokes. At the start, he joked with "Weekend Update" host Colin Jost about how even he's shocked by his success. "I never imagined this would be my life," he said. "Back then, I was just a skinny kid that no one knew which race I was. And now everyone knows I'm white because I became hugely successful while barely showing up to work. Look at me now, I'm aging like an old banana."
Davidson's farewell wasn't all jokes though.

Pete Davidson, who joined “Saturday Night Live” as a relative unknown and has become a superstar whose presence graces gossip pages daily, is expected to leave “Saturday Night Live” after the broadcast of this weekend’s season finale, according to a person familiar with the matter. He is one of a handful of long-serving cast members including Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon whose tenure on the show has come up for scrutiny at the conclusion of recent seasons. Davidson joined the show in 2014 as a featured player at the age of 20, one of the youngest cast members in the program’s 47 seasons on air.
NBC declined to make producers at “SNL” available for comment.
His departure is likely to draw a new burst of attention to the long-running program, which typically uses its summer hiatus to recalibrate its cast of players and contributors.

Longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson is staying in the NBCUniversal fold with his first TV starring vehicle. Peacock has closed a deal for Bupkis, a half-hour live action comedy written, starring and executive produced by Davidson and executive produced by SNL honcho Lorne Michaels. The project, a heightened, fictionalized version of Davidson’s life, was taken out to the marketplace in March, and NBCU’s streamer landed it in a competitive situation with a straight-to-series order.
Bupkis, which Davidson is co-writing with his long-time friend and collaborator Dave Sirus as well as Judah Miller (Crashing), will combine grounded storytelling with absurd elements from the unfiltered and completely original worldview for which Davidson is known.
The show, which has been compared to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, is expected to reflect Davidson’s real-life persona with an unapologetically R-rated storytelling. Talks have already started with A-list talent...

A list of new streaming releases on Netflix, what a concept!
Netflix’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by the return of one of the great sci-fi comedies ever. Natasha Lyonne is set to return as the temporally displaced Nadia on Russian Doll season 2 on April 20. The first season of the show premiered in 2019 and appeared to tell a rather complete story about one Brooklyn woman’s experiences of dying over and over again. But Lyonne and fellow producers Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler still have some story to tell. Netflix is undoubtedly very happy to let them continue to tell it.

Pete Davidson was supposed to embark on an out-of-this-world adventure. The "Saturday Night Live" star was invited to be on Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin space shuttle, New Shepard, alongside five other people, the company revealed on March 14. This mission is Blue Origin's 20th in total and fourth flight with humans.
However, on Thursday, Blue Origin announced that the flight set to take off on March 23 was moved to March 29. "Pete Davidson is no longer able to join the Ns-20 crew on this mission," the company wrote. "We will announce the sixth crew member in the coming days." There was no additional information shared about why the new date does not work for Davidson, but perhaps it's due to filming his new horror film, "The Home."
During Davidson's trip to space, he was supposed to bring postcards past the stratosphere and back as part of the Club For the Future foundation.

Kanye West's Instagram antics are jeopardizing his ability to use the social media platform. The 44-year-old rapper was reportedly put on a 24-hour ban from the app and will not be able to post, comment, or send messages, per TMZ and Rolling Stone. West's representatives did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, told TMZ that some of West's recent posts violated policies on hate speech, bullying, and harassment. If West continues with violating the app's policies, he could face a permanent ban, a Meta spokesperson told the outlet.
On Wednesday, the "Donda" rapper took aim at ex-wife Kim Kardashian's boyfriend Pete Davidson and comedian D.L. Hughley, once again. He also began blasting "The Daily Show" host Trevor Noah as a response to a segment the comedian did about West's public pleas to get Kardashian back.

After Kanye West spent the morning targeting his ex-wife Kim Kardashian‘s boyfriend Pete Davidson — as well a slew of other prominent Black comedians, including The Daily Show host Trevor Noah — with back-to-back-to-back Instagram posts, the social media platform restricted his account, Rolling Stone can confirm.
A spokesperson for Meta, Instagram’s parent company, tells Rolling Stone that West’s @kanyewest account was restricted for 24 hours for repeated violation of the platform’s rules on hate speech, bullying and harassment. West won’t be able to post, comment, or send DMs on Instagram for 24 hours.

When Dave Sirus leaked text messages from Pete Davidson to Kanye West — including a photo in which the comedian is shirtless in bed — fans noticed that the SNL star seemed to have the word “Kim” tattooed on his chest. Well, turns out it’s not a tattoo. It’s a scar. Because he got his girlfriend’s first name branded on him.

Kanye West appeared to spend the early hours of Wednesday morning Googling Pete Davidson for his latest round of angry Instagram posts about Kim Kardashian’s new boyfriend.
The posting spree started with a screengrab of what appears to be a Breitbart article from 2019 West somehow dug up about Davidson reportedly scandalizing his audience with a joke about having sex with a baby. “Yet another reason why Skete gotta stay away from my children,” railed West. (Surely West understands that, crude as it may have been, this joke was part...
