Absolutely charming.

With news of Meg's death now out in public, everyone is desperate to learn how she dies, Nolly in particular, could a plane land on her, could she get hit by a bus? A devastated Nolly films her final scenes.

Russell T Davies did a superb job writing this, she's not somebody I felt I knew a lot about beforehand, but I feel like I'm learning a bit about her.

This was charming, it was funny, it was moving, it's just so different, I wish I'd watched it at Christmas, it would have been perfect.

I loved that scene on the bus, she came across as being a bit conceited, a bit chippy, this showed her in a different light.

Helena Bonham Carter was a total joy as you'd expect, and I have to give credit to Mark Gatiss too, he did a fantastic job as Larry Grayson.

8/10.

Meg and the QE2

Warning: Spoilers
I think this perfectly good ITVx (don't forget it's on ITVx folks) drama has been helped by the fact the network/streaming platform have rammed it down our necks through promo, but it still remains engaging stuff, helped massively by the fact that Helena Bonham Cater is straining every sinew to make it work.

Goodness knows she's the only person who is. Mark Gattis isn't the chameleon actor he thinks he is, with his Larry Grayson impersonation making you wish Michael Sheen had been available.

This is enjoyable, this is fun, and that goes a long way in this modern world of dark and overly sexual/sweary dramas. It has a heart too, and goodness knows we need that right now.

I think it might have been stretched as a three parter though.

Don't forget it's on ITVx...

Episode 2

The second episode goes to the meat of the drama. A line I riffed from Larry Grayson whose character appears here. Although I did not get the sense of Larry as played by Mark Gatiss.

Producer Jack Barton tells Nolly that the rules of the soap game has changed. Ever since JR got shot in Dallas, people clamour for a cliffhanger that gets everyone talking.

The fate of Meg Mortimer in Crossroads is big business with the press and the public. Leaving on the QEII turned out to be a damp squib.

I still think Russell T Davies is struggling to get the drama out of this one. I cannot even sense the real inside scoop as to why Noele Gordon was sacked neither do I care much.

There is a nostalgic current but nothing more than that.
