The Visualise Cult
claudio_carvalho24 December 2021
During a party at the house of the powerful Alexander Harrington to celebrate the election of his son Xander Harrington as the new CEO of the family media corporation, he is stabbed in the neck and dies. The CBI team is assigned to investigate the case and soon they find that a classified file with the list of people that would be fired in the newspaper has been robbed. Soon Patrick Jane finds blood on the shoes of the journalist Heather Evan and learns that she robbed the file. However, she has not killed Xander and his brother Ed becomes another suspect. They also find that the newspaper was investigating a cult named Visualise, owned by a man called Bret Stiles. They proceed their investigation and soon Alexander Harrington is threatened by a bomb at home. Who might be the killer?

"Red All Over" is an episode of "The Mentalist" where Patrick Jane finds a powerful opponent. The manipulation of Patrick in the end to find the unsuspected killer is great and for an unexpected motive. My vote is seven.

Correction

Warning: Spoilers
This is not really a review. It's more a correction to brentonam-4718210's review: Sorry but you are quite mistaken. There's nothing confusing about this episode. The character of Ella does indeed appear - she's the baby towards the beginning of the episode when the CBI first go to the Harrington house after Xander dies. Patrick even picks her up. She's supposed to be Alex's daughter with Tara, his much younger wife. There is no confusion between Ella his "daughter" and Ashley his grand-daughter. I suggest you edit your review to take this into account otherwise you're misleading readers. Hope this helps!

Great Show, Confusing Episode, Major Goof?
brentonam-4718210 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Mentalist is a show that does really well with its twist and turns and as always the way Jane takes risks to trick the killer into confession is still entertaining and a joy to watch.

But this is the first episode I've thought 'wait, what?'

(SPOILERS)

During the final reveal, Jane points out that the grandpa killed Xander because he thought Xander slept with Tara (his wife, Xander and Ed's stepmother). But it was actually Ed who slept with Tara. Apparently they all knew about it, and Xander was talking to Tara about the affair with Ed, which is what made the grandpa suspect Xander. The grandpa discovered the affair because his daughter Ella wasnt his and realised Tara had an affair. He got caught out when Jane convinced him that Ashley (his granddaughter, Sadies + Xanders daughter) had seen the murder.

One of two things is going on here:

A ) Ella is never seen nor mentioned, as far as I remember, until Jane suddenly reveals "You're Ellas real father. Congratulations" and the entire story resolves itself with an offscreen character that was never established. However, he then states "She's a peach" as if he has met her.

B ) They switched the names of Ella and Ashley interchangably and its a major goof that makes the final reveal a complete deus ex machina as a result of the key centerpiece to the crime being completely nonexistent as a clue. The grandpa still refers to Ashley as Ashley in the next scene, and IMDB describes Ella as "Sadies Daughter" who is ashley...

It's either a goof in editing or a goof in writing, but either way renders the resolution bafflingly convoluted and unsatisfying.

Wrote this review because A ) Every episode up until now has been if not top tier then still extremely entertaining and comprehensible, so this episode by proxy was a notably odd oversight, and B ) its so confusing I feel I may have missed something so if anyone ever comes across this, I dont want to simply declare Goof and just want to note it as experienced.
