"I don't have a mom anymore"
strawberry-6050227 January 2022
Me neither Jack :(

It's been 16 years since my mom died and it's still hurt like it was yesterday. I had a great relationship with my mom, even though I was only 9 when she passed away. She was so loving, caring, thoughtful, and generous. She would cry if she saw us hurt. Although my dad did an amazing job of being a single father, no one will ever be able to fill this hole in our life. I love you mom, thinking of you always :( Please if you still have a mother, call her or go to her and tell her how much you love her before it's too late.

I Have Never Trusted a Writers' Room as Much as I Trust This One
jmforsyth-3329126 January 2022
This episode sits outside the main arch of this season, which could be problematic as the clock is ticking to tie loose ends and finish plot threads before finale time, and yet - this episode belongs.

These writers somehow hit homers consistently on "side quests" that should feel like a time waste but ultimately do not. Nothing will ever top the first several seasons of this show - we know this. No show hits their peak in season six; but, Jack's story with his mom is in the conversation for best episode the last two-three seasons. These writers and the main cast are still on their game this deep in the series run and it is commendable.

I felt like we were back in the first or second season of the show. This was a great episode and Milo delivered an exceptional performance like always. I cried my eyes out. I loved learning about his mother and her new life with her boyfriend. This episode was so well written and I enjoyed the characters. Bravo!!

~Pure emotional moment~
elliottremblay27 January 2022
What an episode... I am blown away by the breathtaking writing and acting of 'Don't Let Me Keep You'. It was so heavy and moving that I cried several times in a row alone on my couch. It was a pure emotional moment and only This Is Us knows how to do it that way and it feels good. Simply like that.

Thank you.

This show never fails to touch you.
mosa-2096026 January 2022
Lately I went through some issues and I felt like I want to cry but I couldn't. It's not easy for me to cry or tear up. I've watched many movies with touching stories but it never happened. This is us the only show that makes me cry. I don't know how they do it but it just breaks through me like a waves. Very beautiful show, very beautiful story. I hope everyone have more happy time with their mothers.

I don't have a mom anymore
mradarley-4766128 January 2022
Brilliant acting from Milo. One of the best written network shows of all time in my opinion. I shall be very sad to see it end although I'm not sure I can withstand the emotional turmoil it puts me through an weekly basis. The standard of the episodes has never dopped at all for me, one or two right in the middle of the pandemic where I imagine it was borderline impossible to film but other than that the consistency is great. Let's hope we all get an ending befitting this brilliant show.

More character insight into Jack Pearson.
ldamena26 January 2022
Jack has always seemed like the perfect family man esp when it comes to Rebecca and the kids BUT at his core he wasn't. He failed two of his family members: His mother & Nicky. He sorta abandoned them and never looked back. I guess that makes him more of a grey character but till I hate that side of him. At least he found a way to make amends to his mother and find a way to move on from the pain of the past himself. Great acting by Milo V this ep.

It's about time
montgomerysue10 February 2022
The final season of This Is Us got off to a sort of boring start, re-hashing the same old plot lines, and Sterling K. Brown hamming it up more than ever. This episode is an example of the best that this series has ever had to offer to its viewers. Extremely well-written and directed, it explores Jack's relationship with his mother, who he rescued from an abusive life with his unyielding father. Beautifully acted by Milo Ventimiglia, with excellent support from the wonderful Camryn Manheim as his cousin, Jim Cody Williams as his mother's friend, and, finally, Laura Niemi in a moving performance as Marilyn, Jack's mother. Not to be missed by the fans of this series, and not easily forgotten. It may haunt you long after you see it.

Where's Nicky?
markrichmanpiano2 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was an excellent episode. However, Jack's brother Nicky was not even mentioned. If in the time-frame of their mother's death, Jack and Nicky were estranged, then it still made no sense that in the flashback sequences when Jack was playing with his sled in the snow and was called in for lunch by the mother, it appeared that Jack was an only child. That was not true. Nicky left the family when they were teenagers, as I remember. They grew up together, yet Nicky was not there when they were children? Seems like a gaping plot hole to me in an otherwise well-written and acted episode.

Loads of serious ugly crying
collin_nuke7 February 2022
THIS. This episode is the epitome of what "This is Us" is, was and always will be. This final season has been an insane emotional journey, bringing me back to the high emotions that season 1&2 were so in tune with. This mother episode had me thinking about my relationship with my mom, old memories, and the inevitable future. It's a terribly hard pill to swallow that most of us will face a time where we are in fact "motherless". It had me sympathizing for my father who lost his mother several years back, as she was his best friend, and they had a very similar jack Pearson childhood home abusive father type of situation, where he became her protector. Heavy heavy heavy stuff. I love this show so much and I'm not sure how I'll feel without it :( , even though it's hard to watch... there is a comfort in having a show that is so real, centered on real life family ups & downs. It's always a nice reminder to cherish your loved ones and don't let things go unsaid 💙

A beautiful detour
bspwkbg26 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just when you thought they couldn't make you feel vulnerable, they just did. I almost forgot how Jack's mom was also the one most directly hit by J's dad, if anyone deserves a retrospective episode it's her, she is great, too bad the backstory had to be that sad, that she and Jack didn't get to have many face to face get togethers. That line' I don't have a mom anymore' was when it hit me, for someone that has a hard to describe but by no means good relationship with their family, this leaves me feeling I can't just leave things icey with my family, but how to not? I don't know, but things I don't get from my surroundings I get from This Is Us.

Perfect

Warning: Spoilers
Wow, just wow.

I have loved this show since my sister had recommended it to me all those years ago, and now we're here. The last season.

And this episode is my favourite of this season so far. Jack is just such a multi-layered character. And this episode dives deep into his relationship with his mom. I loved how they showed the awkwardness of Jack finally visiting Debbie's house to discover the life his mom had all these years. And he missed it. They talked on the phone every Sunday at six, but his mom never wanted to be a bother and they kept it short and never really had a chance to build a relationship.

This episode brought me to tears and Milo Ventimiglia's performance was riveting.

10/10.

Heartbreakingly stunning performances by the cast in this episode. So emotional in the best possible way. My mother and I have been watching the series together from the beginning, and we are going to miss this incredible show.

Incredible, emotional episode
justw-6324829 January 2022
Just an incredible episode, one of the best of the series in my opinion. The pure, raw emotion is what hooked me to this is us, and this episode was full of that. Jack's farewell to his mother hit me hard, and in a stand out scene from the series. Happy to see the show return to its roots and find its place again for the final season. Looking forward to what's ahead.

Wonderful
nazaninb26 January 2022
Just when you think this series can't be better, here comes a touching beautiful episode. It was well written and made my cry. Milo's performance was outstanding and how the scenes were connected together from past and present time was great. The film-taking and camera angles were beautifully set. This is my favorite episode in the last 3 seasons.

Another amazing episode
jaypers-4757727 January 2022
Here in the UK we have to wait 2 days until after the US showing so we get to see it on a Thursday. It never ceases to amaze me how the writers are able to tell this story and cover subject material that you can relate to you. Little things that I know will be different for everyone, but always something there for anyone who watches. I love the way it touches me and brings me to tears, weird as that may sound. The writing is incredible and Milo's acting in this episode was spectacular. Will be so sad when season 6 and ultimately the show has ended. Not going to post any spoilers but many things in this episode made me think of my own mother who I lost 10 years ago.

Amazing!

Warning: Spoilers
This was the best episode yet - of the whole series. Hands down. Well done!

My heart bled for Jack and his mom, also for Nicky though he wasn't there. The best moment was when Rebecca and the kids came through the door Jack kept staring at, afraid that his father was going to be the one to open it.

Excellent writing and acting all around, and it fit beautifully into the story as a whole.

(And I rarely gush!)

Let's Not Forget the Boyfriend, Mike
dbausmith13 February 2022
I agree w/ all the other reviewers of how touching & well-written this was, but I was also drawn to Mom's boyfriend, Mike. He certainly wasn't a major character, but w/ only a few words, I could immediately see how Jack's mom would be attracted to him. Look how well he fit in w/ that family-obviously exhibited more humanity than Jack's real dad ever could.

Another wrecker of an episode
nyghtron13 February 2022
As most people, this show takes me through all the emotions. But I'm also approaching 40, and Jack's relationship with his mother and losing her is right where I am now. While I haven't completely lost my mother yet (she has dementia), Jack's "I don't have a mom anymore" put me through the ringer excellent acting, excellent episode.

Amazing writing
mowens93027 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is always great and the writers are usually always excellent but I am impressed and in awe of the amazing writing around PTSD. As a social worker, I pick up on how stories are written around depression, anxiety, ptsd, domestic violence etc and unfortunately it's usually a letdown with cliches or unrealistic endings etc. They did a superb job in writing both Jack's and his mom's symptoms and it was realistic in how it changes you, even if it's been 20 or more years. They both have ptsd from their experiences but how they both processed, or didn't, are very normal and it was acted and written so well. I was very happy to see! It was an emotional episode of course but when aren't they?! Very well done.

What is art?
jonathancono6 February 2022
For me, this episode is the definition of art. We humans, can't create perfection, it is something difficult to understand, but we can do better, be better, and build us. Build a new home for us.

I've seen a lot of ways the concept of build ourselves; it is something I truly love it. And the way the concept was introduced here was one of the best meaningful ways I've seen. It was meaningful, touching, and truthful. Thank you, writers.

This episode is one of the best episodes so far from This Is Us. Thanks to the writing and the direction for taken me back to the first seasons of this beautiful Tv series; because this episode it feels like it was from the first seasons of this is us.

I think I cried almost all the episode. Jack by far is one of my favorite characters, and seen him trying to do better, the small things and bigger things, it is one of the things that touch me the most about this series. He is not perfect, but he was close to be, something like that I remember Rebecca saying when the fourth of them were in therapy, and I agree with her. It is very difficult to try to be a better person, and seen Jack, after all the things that had happened to him, trying to do his best, is truly meaningful.

Like I said, he is not perfect, but I'm glad that he realized that and try to do better. I feel like this character was a part of myself in screen, telling me "Keep going" "Don't surrender" "Try your best" and I'm very glad about it.

I don't know what else to say about this episode. Of course, there are maybe little plot holes in the story, but for me those little plot holes, served to elevate this part of the story, like I said, We humans are not perfect.

9.8/10.
