Very good start for the new season

Warning: Spoilers
The pilot of Skins' fourth season revolves completely around Thomas, the African boy who is living a new life in Bristol. The atmosphere grows melancholic and gloomy, as in the beginning we see a young girl, Sophia, falling down from a balcony in the club Thomas works for. Her death sets the episode off (and I think the whole season will be about this mysterious happening), as Thomas begins to think about his condition in Bristol, his relationship with the sweet Pandora and his family. As if it weren't enough, the college has a new headmaster and the police is interrogating everyone trying to make clear who sold the drug to Sophia... and we'll receive a not very pleasant surprise.

I read this episode as a deep critique to Western Society and to his values, mainly the young ones' values: the scene where Andrea and his brothers talk about Lady Gaga and other notorious pop stars is very clear about it, and I think the whole juxtaposition between Thomas's family and Bristolians's reactions is a good way to see what the creators think about immigration and values nowadays. That's very brave for a young adult drama, and I admire it for that.

Worst episode so far

Warning: Spoilers
Worst episode so far. If it was the first episode of the series, instead of just season four, I doubt very much I would have watched the show. Very uninteresting. There was no interaction between the characters that happens in all the other episodes. I realize this was about Thomas, but it just seemed like he took up way more of screen time than any of the other characters do in their episodes. Not interesting, emotional, fun, or entertaining. Just Thomas feeling miserable. His mother was lamenting that there are no virgins in the UK. Well apparently the preachers daughter wasn't one either. They barely knew each other and she dragged him into the laundry room at the hospital to have sex. Hopefully the next episode will get back to a more ensemble situation.

Suicide, Facing Different Cultural Values

Warning: Spoilers
We see from a girl named Sophia's perspective coming up the stairs and a girl straddles a boy in a corner. Sophia opens the door and is in the club, music pounding. People dancing. She goes up the stairs to the top and then jumps. A pool of blood surrounds her and people scream.

The lack of emotion over Sophia's supposed death annoys me. Thomas enters his home where his mother is caring for his ill brother with Pandora. They greet his mother and Pandora awkwardly says they weren't doing anything - she then specifies sex. Pandora says not a lot then rethinks and says well a lot. Mom shakes her head and says where can I find a virgin in this country? Pandora says not a lot.

Pandora gets on top of Thomas nude and doesn't care if mom comes in or hears. They have sex to ease the pain of the death.

Thomas goes to church and eyes the female lead singer. Before leaving his mom tells the church leader her son has been fighting and fornicating. They are bad friends.

Thomas's brother starts hyperventilating at the church leader's home so he is brought to the hospital. The female singer kisses Thomas and they go into a laundry room in the hospital. She sits and they have sex.

Pandora shows up with JJ to watch films. They talk about Reese, Rachel McAdams. Thomas reveals he slept with someone else.

Pandora asks for Effy's thoughts and we see Effy.
