He randomly picks Mrs Green and Rodney Putnam, an arrogant Freshman and a know it all.
Putnam not all puts down Mrs Green in the debate, he goes on to humiliate her making her feel distraught.
In fact Putnam seems to behave like this with everyone, even a girl that fancies him. His bullying arrogance and snobbishness gets too much for Professor Crayton.
So he decides to tutor Mrs Green the art of debating. In he next showdown, Mrs Green uses her experience show Putnam his place. Not what she learned in class.
