The new version of this show is not even a shadow of its former self.
I LOVE Greg Davis, his stand up is great and he's usually very entertaining as a host, but it feels like they've just asked him to tone it down a bit, resulting in an overly polished and bland version of a truly great original.
Gone is the dry, cutting wit and instead we are left with Daisy May Cooper's best impression of a demented seal. Her OTT laughing to every little joke, no matter how unfunny it may be, ruins any chance of amusement. She seems like a lovely person, but honestly what is she doing there? I genuinely don't think she has made one single joke in 4 episodes.
Jamali's deadpan style is more in keeping with the original show's vibe and he has made me laugh more than anyone else, but he doesn't seem to gel very well with this new perky upbeat version of the show.
I mean even the set feels like that of a generic gameshow. Part of the appeal with the original set was that it felt grungy and rough around the edges, like the bedroom of a rebellious teen sticking two fingers up at "the man".
I was really looking forward to NMTB coming back, but unfortunately it just doesn't hit the mark for me.
