Richard Lewis, the beloved comedian, stand-up comedy all-star, and series regular on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 76. Lewis’ death was confirmed by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said.
Richard Lewis’ comedic journey began with dual debuts in the New York and Los Angeles comedy arenas in the 1970s. Mentioned in the same breaths as comedy legends like Andy Kaufman, Richard Belzer, and Elayne Boosler, Lewis’ comedy style was darker and more self-deprecating than his fellow kings and queens of comedy. Not afraid to lampoon his shortcomings, Richard Lewis shared grim comedy about his addictions and bizarre thinking.
Lewis revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in April 2023 and planned to retire from his stand-up career.

Oh, you thought “Clueless” wouldn’t get remade eventually? As if. Deadline reports that Amy Heckerling’s teen classic will be the latest ’90s favorite to see new life, with “Glow” writer Marquita Robinson on screenplay duty and “Girls Trip” writer Tracy Oliver producing. Per Deadline’s report, the project is in the earliest stages of development and details are scarce; it’s currently unknown whether “it’s a fresh new take for the millennium and if older characters will be reprising their roles.”
Heckerling both wrote and directed the 1995 film, a loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1815 novel “Emma” starring Alicia Silverstone as a wealthy teen navigating high school and everything that goes with it in Beverly Hills. Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, Dan Hedaya, Stacey Dash, and Breckin Meyer all co-starred in “Clueless,” which earned $56.6 million at the box office and became a cult classic.

Amy HeckerlingThe films of Amy Heckerling reveal a heart guarded and tender, a penchant for the past without a whiff of the maudlin. Who could forget her debut, Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Directed from Cameron Crowe's script, the 1982 film gave us frank portrayals of sexuality and the detailed minutiae of growing up, suspended in the hazy tedium of high school, all without condescension or patronizing. Totally righteous. Heckerling proved attuned to the particulars of comedy with her next feature Johnny Dangerously (1984), a waggish send-up of the 1930s gangster comedy. In its cheeky beginning, a 1935 title card reveals itself to be a real material object that crumbles when car crash obliterates its façade. With a darkened lash line, a young Michael Keaton puts forth his best James Cagney as the titular mobster whose identity and status are known to all but his ailing ma and brother, a rising assistant Da.

During the American Film Festival in Wroclaw Poland in November, I met someone at a party. The Polish parties, at least at the American Film Festival, are always very friendly. The American Film Festival and U.S. in Progress late night party is held in the same venue every night with free drinks. Later in the night all those still standing go to a Soviet-style diner and eat the best pierogis I have ever had in my life.
After attending this festival every year since 2008, you would think I knew everyone, but in fact, I often stay by those I know or don’t go to such late high energy parties. However, one night I did go and at the bar, I met a woman named Anna Różalska who looked so familiar that I was sure she was an American I knew from home.
And as we talked, as if we had known each other for all our lives, I realized that even though she was not American, she would fit perfectly among my colleagues in “Hollywood” should she ever decide to give it a try.
Anna was heading the production and development department at Alvernia Studios where she coproduced the Golden Globe nominated “Arbitrage” directed by Nick Jarecki (USA, 2012) starring Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon, the film that Roadside Attractions did so well with on VoD as well as theatrically. She coproduced “Vamps” by Amy Heckerling (USA, 2012) starring Sigourney Weaver. Later Anna exec produced “Sweet Home” (Spain, 2014) produced by Filmax and a short movie “ Ambition” directed by Oscar Nominee Tomek Baginski and starring Aidan Gillen from the “Game of Thrones” for Platige Image and I Exec.
Over the years Anna has built strong relationshops with major Polish producers, TV stations and filmmakers both in Poland and internationally. In 2015 she co-founded Match&Spark Management, a talent management company representing and promoting directors, DOPs and music composers in Poland and outside of the country. The idea is to match filmmakers who have been working in commercials, television and film to broader relationships in the areas they want to develop.
M&S aims to help find Polish talent representation in other markets such as U.S., U.K., France, etc. and to manage them by building long term relationships with other international agents and managers.
M&S also represents Polish talents based outside of Poland in the local markets. Lucas Zal (Oscar-nominee for cinematography on “Ida” by director Pawel Pawlikowski) is one of the most notable clients of M&S.
M&S aims to package the projects in Poland and in the European market using the models of the largest agencies and management companies in Hollywood.
Currently M&S is in post-production on its first U.S. coproduction, a documentary with RatPac, “In The Name Of Honor”, directed by Pawel Gula. More local and international projects, both films and television series are in the pipeline.
Anna graduated from Warsaw Business School, went on to the Polish National Film, Theatre and TV School in Lodz and received her Cems Masters Degree in International Management (Esade / Barcelona). She also had a scholarship to attend Haute Ecole de Commerce in Montreal.
She speaks English, Spanish, French and Polish.

Poland is very U.S.-friendly and has liberal film laws favoring coproductions. We have recently seen two of their films at Sundance, Anne Fontaine's "Agnus Dei" in the Premieres section, a French-Polish coproduction being sold internationally by Films Distribution and the 100% original Polish mermaid vampire lesbian musical, "The Lure" directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska in the World Cinema Section.
Annashe is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Polish and is in a perfect position to bridge future developments between the two countries and other countries as well.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by One Way or Another Productions/George Katt Director/writer: Brian Ackley. Cast: George Katt, Jen Burry and Taylor Negron. Alien encounter/abduction scenarios are sometimes tough to play out on screen. In this day and age where interest in UFOs is at an all time high due to TV shows like "Hangar 1: The UFO Files" and fangled conspiracies through "Ancient Aliens," just what does not often get explored are the existential issues witnesses feel when they realize how insignificant they are in a greater, cosmic sense. Alienated is an aptly titled independent movie that delves into the psychological domain where Nate (George Katt, In the Gray) finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place. After sighting an unidentified flying object, he has relationship issues with his wife Paige (Jen Burry, Land of Smiles) and existential woes whom Griffin (Taylor Negron,...

Technically speaking, The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore is the new guy on the late-night television circuit, but the former Daily Show correspondent and in Living Color writer has been making us laugh — at all hours of the day — for quite some time.
The writer/actor/stand-up comedian, who got his start on The Facts of Life, has been seen on the small screen (Happy Endings, How I Met Your Mother, and The Office, which he also worked as a consulting producer on) and big screen (I Love You, Man, Dinner for Schmucks, Vamps) alike for a career that’s already spanned more than 30 years.
While Wilmore has long been a memorable “Oh, that guy!” kind of character actor, he has been making just as many waves off-screen. The Los Angeles native co-created the hit comedies The PJs, with Eddie Murphy, and The Bernie Mac Show, with the late,...

The world lost two famous supporting screen talents this weekend. Firstly, comedian and famed character actor Taylor Negron died at the age of 57 after a long battle with cancer. You may not recognise the name, but his deadpan delivery and complete lack of fear about tackling all sorts of topics will long be remembered.
Negron is best known for numerous bit roles in various films and TV shows including "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "The Last Boy Scout," "Easy Money," "River's Edge," "Punchline," "Angels in the Outfield," "Spy Hard," "Bio-Dome," Chairman of the Board," "The Thin Pink Line," "Stuart Little," "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas ," "The In Crowd," "Loser," "The Hughleys," "So Little Time," "Funky Monkey," "The Aristocrats," "Three Days to Vegas," "Vamps" and more.
Sadly he isn't the only one to have passed on though as screen actress Anita Ekberg also died over the weekend at the age...

She's raised some eyebrows in the past with her different approach to parenting, but now Alicia Silverstone is drawing criticism for the advice she gives in her new book.
Joining the ranks of other celeb moms, the "Vamps" star penned "The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning."
Among the thing sin the book drawing ire are Silverstone's implications that vaccines are dangerous, that tampons cause infertility and that diet is the cause of post-partum depression. She also advocates getting rid of diapers.
Her detractors claim that her tips can be medically dangerous and are not practical for the average family.

Eternity and a Day: Jim Jarmusch’s Vampire Flick Is Typically Jarmuschian
After his droll yet audience-friendly quirkfest Broken Flowers took home the Grand Prix at Cannes ’05 hit, Jim Jarmusch returns to the Croisette (after his sharply divisive The Limits of Control eluded the festival circuit) with another quintessentially Jarmuschian affair – this time about vampires. Typically shapeless, loquacious, and deeply concerned with artifacts of yester-generations’ hip kids (viz., wicked guitars and an eclectic record collection), this notably un-horrific take on the genre comes on the heels of Amy Heckerling’s under-appreciated comedy Vamps to form a unique diptych of films more concerned with certain basic ideas of immortality than in generating jump scares.

Iggy Azalea paid tribute to cult teen classic Clueless in her recent music video for 'Fancy'.
The Australian rapper appears as Alicia Silverstone's iconic character Cher in the video, which was released online last week.
As stars continue to be inspired by the movie almost 20 years on, we take a fond look back at the cast and what they went on to do after Clueless:
Alicia Silverstone (Cher Horowitz)
Alicia Silverstone played seemingly shallow socialite Cher - famously branded "a virgin who can't drive" and "hymenally challenged" - in the high-school adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma.
Prior to Clueless, Silverstone's credits included ABC comedy-drama The Wonder Years and a number of Aerosmith videos. The film propelled her to further fame, and she went on to star in Joel Schumacher's 1997 movie Batman & Robin, crime-comedy Excess Baggage (1997) with Benicio Del Toro and Christopher Walken, and romantic drama Blast from the Past (1999) opposite Brendan Fraser.

It hasn't taken Krysten Ritter long to bounce back from the cancellation of her sharp show "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23."
After years of playing the snarky sidekick, she's started snagging bigger roles in upcoming films like Tim Burton's "Big Eyes" and the adaptation of "Veronica Mars." The latest movie she's signed on for is the curiously named indie "Asthma."
"Asthma" marks the directorial debut of Jake Hoffman, son of Dustin. The younger Hoffman is turning his lens on "the consequences of the live fast, die young mentality in NYC's indie rock scene," which doesn't give us a whole lot of information (especially since it's debatable what constitutes the "indie rock scene" in New York City these days). Ritter's a delight as an undead...
Albert Hammond Jr. from The Strokes will be appearing as himself, so we could guess "Asthma" takes place in the early '00s.

New York, July 02: Alicia Silverstone is urging mothers to share their milk through a new program.
She announced the programme 'Kind Mama Milk Share' on her blog and described it as a community service to support those mothers and babies who need help, the New York Daily News reported.
The 36-year-old urged the women to post on the blog if they need or want to share milk.
She also advised them to think about all the unprivileged babies and help them to rise together.
The 'Vamps' star wrote that a friend, who couldn't produce enough milk because of a prior breast reduction surgery, inspired her to come.

Jada Pinkett Smith is putting on her dancing and producing shoes for "Salsa," a new romantic comedy with William Levy. Levy has appeared on a number of Spanish-language TV shows, but his star has been rising in the States because of a smoldering season on "Dancing With the Stars." Naturally, he plays a salsa teacher who helps Pinkett Smith's character get her groove back. Whether that's metaphorical or the more old-fashioned way has yet to be seen, but with romcom expert Amy Heckerling writing and directing, all signs point to a love connection. Levy's got a number of projects coming up, including Tyler Perry's "Single Moms Club" and the drama "Addicted." There's also buzz that the up-and-comer really wants to hit up Broadway. He's hoping for a chance to play Emilio Estefan in the singer's autobiographical Broadway musical. He's also been busy with a new Pepsi campaign. Unfortunately for everyone ever,...

Okay, Silverstone fans, cross your fingers, because you all are very close to getting a wish come true. Alicia Silverstone is very close to starring in a new Lifetime series. She’ll lead the pilot, but the waters are murky. There’s no telling whether this one will make it to a full series order or not. The new drama pilot is called Hr.
I just saw Silverstone in 2012′s Butter. It took me a moment to recognize her, but that voice of her and twisted mouth is very recognizable. Not only is it good to read about her landing a starring role, but it seems like Hr has a solid chance at becoming a Lifetime series and I’ll tell you why.

Exclusive: After a lengthy search, Lifetime has tapped Alicia Silverstone as the lead in its drama pilot Hr. The network originally ordered the pilot last summer, along with Cinnamon Girl, The Secret Lives Of Wives and Witches Of East End, but made the pickup contingent on casting the lead. Lifetime took its time, looking for a name and the right actress. With Silverstone on board, Hr has now been cleared for production. Written by Glenn Porter (I Melt With You), Hr centers on the uptight Director of Human Resources for a global company (Silverstone) who, after a head injury alters her outlook on life, throws standard corporate practices out the window and inspires the business to strive for new ambitions and profits. Hr is executive produced by Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, who originally developed the project as a spec, and co-executive produced by Porter and Michael Lohmann. Hr joins...

Building on the launch pad that Downton Abbey gave him, Dan Stevens is looking to ignite his film career. He’s in talks to co-star alongside Liam Neeson for Scott Frank’s new thriller, A Walk Among The Tombstones.Neeson is starring as a former NYPD officer who now works as a private investigator. When he’s hired to find the kidnapped wife of a drug dealer, he discovers that this isn’t the first time the perpetrators have pulled off this kind of crime – and all of their previous targets have ended up dead. Can he save this one?Stevens’ role hasn’t been announced, though it’s possible he’s playing the drug dealer with the missing missus - which would certainly be a change from his Downton casting. This would be just his latest film gig, as he’s already cropped up in Amy Heckerling’s little-seen...

In the history of the Academy Awards, 84 Oscars have been awarded for Best Director. In that time four women have been nominated for this honour… and only one has won – Kathryn Bigelow. A true pioneer and with a flair for action that had previously been the domain of male directors, Bigelow is undoubtedly leading the way for female filmmakers everywhere.
Though a distinct minority, female directors have been working away in Hollywood for a long time, and have made a major impact on the film industry, especially in recent years – and Bigelow’s achievement is a boost for all of them. In honour of Kathryn Bigelow’s most recent film Zero Dark Thirty, we take a look at the Top 5 most celebrated female directors in Hollywood today.

Krysten Ritter has been linked to the role of Ana Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey. The Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 actress was named as a contender in a Gather article, which also suggested that Anne Hathaway was being considered. Although the article itself offers no clear evidence to support the rumour, Ritter retweeted the article from her personal Twitter account, suggesting that she is indeed in the running. Ritter recently starred in romantic comedy Vamps, which is yet to be released in the UK, and had a recurring role in the second season of AMC drama Breaking Bad. Several actresses have been reported as frontrunners for the role of naive college graduate Ana Steele, who develops a sadomasochistic relationship with billionaire Christian (more)...

.Staying young is getting old.. Vamps is a welcome reunion for director Amy Heckerling and Alicia Silverstone. The results may not put much of a new spin on the vampire genre but it does have enough heart to keep it from getting a stake to it. Goody (Alicia Silverstone) is a vampire who doesn.t feed on humans. Her loneliness has been tempered by her friendship with fellow vampire Stacy (Krysten Ritter). Their stem, or vampire who turned them, is Ciccerus (Sigourney Weaver) who summons them to be her clothing models since she can.t see herself in the mirror. Our girls take night classes and club to keep eternity less boring and Stacy catches the eye of Joey...

The Movie Pool gets all sparkly over the Alicia Silverstone vampire comedy Vamps!
The Set-up
A pair of female vampires (Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter) experience the ups and downs of the New York nightlife.
Directed By: Amy Heckerling

I'm sure, on paper, Vamps sounded like a great idea: two vampires cruise through the New York nightlife, finding love and a few jokes along the way. With Amy Heckerling (Clueless, Fast Times at Ridgemont High) directing and Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter heading an all-star cast that includes Sigourney Weaver and Malcolm McDowell, how could it go wrong? Let us count the ways.
Before I go into why this film doesn't work, let me say that I do not enjoy ripping up on a movie like some online critics seem to. I know a lot of talented people put a lot of hard work into making a film,...

Vamps reunites writer/director Amy Heckerling with her Clueless star Alicia Silverstone in a film that is surprisingly sweet. The movie opens like Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone narrating her backstory:
Goody (Alicia Silverstone) and her Bff Stacy (Krysten Ritter) are two hopelessly romantic women who are longing for better days while working the night shift as exterminators. Will they ever find that one special guy to share their oh so long lives with? Oh, and did I mention they’re also vampires?
While watching Vamps, I couldn’t help but feel it was created solely for an early teen and even tween crowd, and not the older teenage market that Heckerling had cornered in the 80’s with Fast Times at Ridgemont High and in the 90’s with the aforementioned Clueless. Heckerling doesn’t seem to fare as well in the watered down world that this film seems to be catered to.

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. What happens when "Twilight" meets "Clueless"?
Well, we're not sure we really want to know, but "Vamps" may be the closest we'll ever get. And that's a good thing, because it combines the greatness of the "Clueless" duo of director Amy Heckerling and star Alicia Silverstone with, well, vampires. Throw in that b—from "Apartment 23" (Krysten Ritter) and you've got yourself a golden comedy.
Better yet, a comedy you can see for free! We're letting three lucky readers sink their teeth into the "Vamps" DVD – which hits shelves on Nov. 13 – in our latest giveaway.
As you may have already figured out, the movie follows two modern day, single vampires about town (Ritter and Silverstone) looking for love in the Big Apple. Things get a little rocky (you know, like not passing a driver's test kind of rocky) when Ritter's bloodsucker Stacy starts to fall for a guy (Dan Stevens,...

With Clueless, it was already abundantly clear that Amy Heckerling’s best days of writing and directing were far behind her in a legacy that included nostalgic classics like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Johnny Dangerously, European Vacation, and the talking baby comedy Look Who’s Talking. Compared to those, Clueless was as vapid and soulless as its protagonists, and Heckerling’s ability to craft believable characters has only gotten worse since then. Nothing proves this more than her latest film Vamps, a romantic comedy with Krysten Ritter and Alicia Silverstone as two vampires looking for love and the source of a conspiracy to draw vampires out into the sun. All Heckerling gives us is the dried husk of a comedy, sucked dry by every film that got to its easy jokes first and the stilted dialogue and poor deliveries; all of which suggest Heckerling needs to retire as both a writer and director.

"Vamps," the first reunion between Alicia Silverstone and Amy Heckerling since "Clueless," was not supposed to light up the box office: The film was given a courtesy release by Anchor Bay in New York and Los Angeles on Nov. 2 -- despite already being available on demand and with a DVD and Blu-ray release on the horizon for Nov. 13. Yet as many box office stories have noted on Monday, the film was an outright flop: "Vamps" earned $500 total, putting the comedy in league with "Oogieloves," "Delgo" and other historic box-office washouts.
Except the "Vamps" opening didn't happen as planned.
Set to screen in New York at the AMC Loews Village 7, the "Vamps" debut was delayed on the East Coast due to Hurricane Sandy. The Village 7 is located on 3rd avenue and 10th street, meaning the theater was without power until sometime on Friday night; the New York premiere of "Vamps" will now happen on Friday.

If you were clueless about this weekend's big-screen Clueless reunion, you weren't alone. Vamps, the new vampire comedy from Alicia Silverstone and writer-director Amy Heckerling, grossed all of $500 at the Friday-Sunday box office, per Exhibitor Relations stats. The low-budget, low-profile indie, which has been available on digital demand, opened in one theater in New York en route to a planned Nov. 13 DVD release. Reviews for Vamps weren't great; they weren't all bad, either. "Make no mistake," the Los Angeles Times said, "Vamps is mostly a misfire, but Heckerling still shows enough flashes of wit and wisdom that she remains hard to entirely...

Winner Of The Week: John C. Reilly. The veteran character actor and Will Ferrell sidekick (Talladega Nights, Step Brothers) has never enjoyed an opening as big as the enormous $49.1 million estimated haul of Wreck-It Ralph. The cartoon's debut not only topped the weekend chart but also smashed the opening-weekend record for a non-Pixar, in-house-made Disney cartoon. It helped that the movie had a solid script with appeal beyond the family audience (surely a lot of Gen-Xers went to see it just for its evocation of 1980s videogames), and it also helped that Sandy-strewn audiences...

Amy Heckerling knows a thing or two about adolescents in movies. Having directed such classics as "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "Clueless," the filmmaker not only has a pulse on teen angst and humor, she also has a preternatural ability to spot young talent (she's helped launch the careers of actors such as Alicia Silverstone, Sean Penn, Forrest Whitaker, Paul Rudd and many, many others). In her new movie, "Vamps," out in limited release and VOD today, she's exploring the tennets of youth once again. But this time, she's moving up a few age groups. Here we meet Goody (Silverstone, teaming up with Heckerling for the first time since "Clueless) and Stacy (Krysten Ritter), two college-going, party-hopping vampires living in New York City. Granted, they aren't really in their college years; while they may look young, Stacy is actually in her 40s, and Goody is almost 200 years old. Nevertheless,...

Girls Just Wanna Have Blood: Heckerling’s Vampire Comedy a Light Bite
Director Amy Heckerling reunites with her Clueless (1995) star for a female vampire buddy comedy, Vamps, her first effort since 2007’s I Could Never Be Your Woman. Granted a limited theatrical release to be followed quickly with a Blu-ray drop date only weeks later, the film is actually getting a heavier promotional push than her last, which went straight to DVD in the Us market. There’s certainly nothing edgy about her vampire rom-com, and neither does it revamp the genre or the careers of cast and crew, and was perhaps unwisely made during a frenzied adolescent vampire craze that’s finally on the wane. What it does feature are two likeable, cutesy lead ladies and a bevy of supporting performers threaded throughout its breezy running time, unfortunately hampered by several instances of terrible CGI that should have been excised altogether.

Amy Heckerling is having a Clueless moment: Her new film, Vamps, is a reunion with Alicia Silverstone, Wallace Shawn, and costume designer Mona May, but instead of tackling youth culture, it addresses what it's like to have to endlessly keep up with it. Silverstone and Krysten Ritter ("in a part she was born to play," the writer/director says) are two relatively harmless vampires in New York who just want to have a good time and date cute guys (Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey is one such morsel), but staying young is getting old. Heckerling chatted with Vulture about her iPad mini prediction, the Clueless musical, and her next episode of Gossip Girl.Vamps is out in time for the launch of the iPad mini, which you have a moment about in the film — something you predicted before it was actually announced.Oh my God, you're right! Who would have thought?...
