Episode 404

Warning: Spoilers
Mildly amusing, but wow, this has to be one of the most underwhelming wedding episodes of a sitcom in years. It just lacked any real creative flare, and felt like so many missed opportunities.

Great episode

Ignore the trolls. They will say anything just because they miss Roseanne. This was a great episode. I love how the writers took their time developing Dan and Louise's relationship. It's realistic! Welcome to the Conner family Louise.

Enough of Darlene
vintagegeek14 October 2021
This show has turned into 'all about Darlene'. Her constant whining and screeching has become too much. And this episode adds Louise whining all around. Another wedding show that's nothing but disasters. This theme has been done a dozen times on other shows in the last year. Thank goodness Becky is still there.

Another weak episode

Warning: Spoilers
I must admit this episode is the first time I wondered to myself why I'm still watching it or not fast forwarding through the parts that look like crap. I don't like to hate watch stuff. And I don't mean for my reviews to come off looking like I'm hate watching. I wanted to watch this series because I was a huge fan of the original "Roseanne". These are characters from "Roseanne" but I realize they won't recreate the magic from that series. I'm not looking for "Roseanne 2.0" but I do want to watch an interesting/funny series.

And going down the road they're on, they're getting farther and farther away from even being a "decent show".

The main bit I want to talk about involves what I think of as a throwback to the original series that DOESN'T work. I think of when Becky and Mark broke up and Becky was having a hissy fit about Mark still working at the bike shop with Dan. It was believable for a teenager to be throwing a hissy fit like this. Fast forward decades and having Darlene (who's at least in her mid 40s?) throwing a hissy fit because Ben's gonna be at her dad's wedding. It's pathetic, not funny, not interesting, etc. Okay, so things ended badly. Make sure you stay away from each other. I thought so many characters from the original series went downhill because they became mean instead of snarky. Darlene's included in that category. I never thought anything could be as bad as mean Darlene and the writers have thrown a curveball at the viewers. There's other men out there, Darlene. It makes me think of a scene involving Jackie from the original series about she needs to stop thinking that her life isn't complete unless she's got a man in her life. Darlene's on that path. Take some time to mourn the relationship and MOVE ON. Move on from this lousy storyline that seems to drag on endlessly. I'm tired of Darlene's whining, tired of Ben's whining. If he had an apartment, why in the world did you give it up until you were 100% sure the two of you were moving in together and both were completely committed? I'm just tired of this guy.

Jackie--I felt so sorry for Becky when she accidentally drunk a sip of alcohol at Dan's wedding because Jackie told her the wrong direction. Jackie's gotten so stupid that she's pretty much useless and it's a shame Becky doesn't see that. I hate typing that because I thought it would've been nice to see the kids leaning on Aunt Jackie with Roseanne being gone. No, Darlene was right about talking to Jackie is like talking to Daffy Duck. This was funny when Jackie was younger but it's painful now. It truly makes a lot of viewers probably come away from the show wondering "What's wrong with Jackie?"

I gave this episode two stars because DJ showed up again! I'd like to see some storylines involving DJ because they HAVE to be better than this constant Darlene/Ben tripe. And the second star goes to Becky. I'm glad she had Mike to turn to when she was freaking out and he was able to at least calm her down.

I agree with the other review about this basically turning into the "All about Darlene" show. I don't want to knock Sara Gilbert's acting skills. I think she's still got good acting chops if she's in the right storyline. Stick her in a bad storyline and it shows imo. I realize a lot of series can be like that. You can have the best actor/actress doing a script and if the script is lousy, well, there's only so much you can do.

I also realize that John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf are probably happy with the amount of scenes they get in the series so they're free to do other things. Sara Gilbert walked away from her talk show in order to devote more time to "The Conners". I have no idea if Lecy Goranson is doing other stuff outside of "The Conners" or not. And I also won't say anything about the child stars on the set. I imagine there's pretty strict rules in place due to Covid so I can see why Harris, Mark and Mary don't really have meaty storylines the way Becky, Darlene and DJ had on the original series.
