Inside the Mastermind, RZA
ciscodesign-5704429 September 2021
One of the more euphoric episodes for the Wu-Tang series. This episode dives in deep into the mind of RZA. Early on, you hear RZA talk about how each memeber is an instrument; as if he's the conductor. Well, you see his analogies come to life in a theatrical fashion. You witness the gears moving in his head. This was definitely one of my favorite episodes! I can't wait to see what ones next.

Finally

The episode we've all been waiting for. The real beginning of the Wu-Tang Clan. Seeing RZA work his magic on one of the breakthrough tracks of all Hip hop in "Protect Ya Neck" was truly a sight to behold. Beyond that, the fantastic casting and acting makes this episode feel so perfectly like we, the audience, were inside both the minds of the members and both studios. It may be a bit before Wu-Tang really takes off in their dominance of East Coast Hip hop, and certainly some continued trials and tribulations lie ahead, but indeed this was the episode (and song) that actually solidified who the Wu-Tang Clan is and was done very faithfully to the creative process that I am actually impressed both critically and as a creator of art and music myself. I don't doubt that this episode (and series altogether) may someday (even someday soon) be shown in a music production class.

A truly resounding win for the series as a whole and a great piece of musical cinema as well: 9.5/10.

This was a magical episode. Delving deep into the minds of different creative processes. The Wu creating a masterpiece, to the writing and directing of the episode.

Thank you kindly

Wow. I'm so glad that this episode included so many recording sessions! It felt like a gift ! Thank you hahha The involvement of the actors and the efforts of imaginative production have clearly payed off.

This episode is a prism that let the light shine on the great work that is being done in this series through the cristallized achievements of the Wu members.

The shaolin warriors being included during a recording session made me see the whole wu-verse become so much alive, agile and coherent.

The beats were very dank and the visualisation of composing / decomposing music felt truly exhilarating :) My heart is still pounding from those recording sessions- wow.

Ghostface was fire

Siddiq Saunderson is the perfect fit for ghostface! His verse as ghost was almost identical and perfect. I've always loved ghost's flow so thank you for that!!

Crucial, poignant vision of art

Writing, acting, rapping, cinematography, everything is all in top form for this episode, it is the penultimate episode so far in the series. Continues to show deep introspective into Bobby's (RZA) and Dennis' (Ghostface Killa) unique and very different methods of creativity. If this show gets/is nominated for an Emmy, it will be for this episode (Protect Ya Neck). Easy 10/10.

PROTECT YA NECK

A brilliant and entertaining depiction of RZA's creative process. This was a lot of fun to watch and as someone who bought 36 Chambers the day it was released, and knows every single word, I got goosebumps more than once.

We'll done to all involved. So far this episode sets itself apart as one I'll come back and watch repeatedly.

Masterpiece

Blown away. An incredible insight to the genius of the RZA and the separation of the channels, instruments and vocals that go into producing a track. Just has not been done like this before, and for that I am grateful for this experience!

Best episode so far!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Actually a 9.5 Don't get me mistaken this whole series goes HARD Like they would say in rap but this episode right here was on a whole other level! I wasn'g quite surr where they were going with it but the way it all came through in the end was a major pay off. To hear the crew spit their verses live in the studio like that was insane! We kind of get to see the process they went through to make the song (trying to keep this vague so I don't spoil anything). I just had to write a review after seeing this episode. Like I said the whole series is Fire but they knocked it out the park with this episode! 5/5 The only one I'm not really digging is the actor playing RZA I think he may be trying too hard to sound/ act like RZA.

Anyways the second season is leagues ahead of season one in my opinion.

Watch ya step Watch ya step kid!

Finally we see the WU
Afshinro17 February 2023
The first season was intriguing but too drawn out.

Season 2 sets up perfectly for this masterpiece of TV. The true genius of hip-hop is simultaneously deconstructed and constructed in order to demonstrate the art of sampling. Codifying a quasi-mystical process.

It's really clear in this episode that the creators were behind every single frame in order to tell the story so purely and so artistically.

It is really is hard to overstate the genius behind music that has such rich intertextuality coming from people who had nothing but dreamt big.

Protect ya neck is lesson in rough perfection. Ace.
