Living on the Edge
Hitchcoc7 January 2024
As our heroes work to adapt to their situation, they get in more and more trouble. Their tiff ends up being a much bigger deal than it would be in today's world. The innocence of the townspeople and the tiny community in which they live expands the emotional impact of what goes on. The central event is right out of Oklahoma as the women are auctioned off along with their box lunches. Josh is picked out by a giddy teenager whose age he misjudges. He ends up engaged at the end of a shotgun barrel pointed by the girl's father. His counterpart has a wonderful tryst with the Carnival guy (right out of Carousel) as they sing and dance. He is marvelously talented. No shortage of that in this show. We also get to know the Mayor a bit. He is played by Alan Cummings and is about as gay as one can get. Of course, that use of the word has no meaning in this setting. Another masterful episode.

This episode manages to combine some hilarious over-the-top musical numbers with deep and emotional dialogue. Not the most amazing thing I've ever seen but I'm looking forward to episode three!

"It's like if The Walking Dead was ALSO Glee!" Best quote of the show so far, because the line after that from Cecily Strong is brilliant.
