Film director Stephen Gyllenhaal shared what he learned from making his new documentary, UnCharitable, in his new uInterview.
UnCharitable highlights three of the most successful U.S. charities, which were shut down by watchdogs. It questions the traditional constraints on salaries and marketing that are put on nonprofit organizations and demand a change in the system.
Gyllenhaal, who is the father of famed actors Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, explained what drove him to make the documentary when he heard the story of his friend Dan Pallotta, whose AIDS Ride charity was shut down due to negative reports about its high overhead costs.
“I really love documentaries and how important they are,” Gyllenhaal told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I had just finished a documentary called In Utero, which was all about the science from conception to birth… it became very important in the pre-natal, perinatal world and, in fact, led me...

Mel Gibson and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson are toplining Boneyard, an indie crime-thriller that has begun shooting in Las Vegas.
Brian Van Holt, who starred opposite Kate McKinnon in limited series Jo vs. Carole, is also starring in the feature whose cast includes Nora Zehetner (The Right Stuff). Co-starring is Michael Sirow, most recently seen in SXSW movie The Wrath Of Becky.
Colin Bates, who produced the Halle Berry thriller Kidnap and the Arnold Schwarzenegger zombie drama Maggie, is producing the hot indie with Vincent McDaniel.
Inspired by true events, Boneyard tells of an FBI special agent, played by Gibson, who along with the Albuquerque police department, is hunting for a serial killer nicknamed The Bone Collector. Many of The Beatles‘ songs were original Lennon-McCartney compositions. Despite this, the band still performed many covers. Notably, one of the Fab Four’s covers has the distinction of being one of the shortest tunes ever recorded by the band.
The Beatles | Bettmann / Contributor 5. ‘Maggie Mae’
The title track of Let It Be remains one of the most famous and beloved songs in The Beatles’ catalog. It’s emotive, simple, and powerful. And it’s immediately followed by a cutesy cover of the traditional folk song “Maggie Mae.”
The recording lasts a total of 40 seconds, making it feel like an unnecessary joke. It puts an end to the song “Let It Be” in the same annoying, irreverent fashion that “Her Majesty” put an end to Abbey Road. “Maggie Mae” and “Her Majesty” are not the group’s best work, but they encapsulate their humor.

When the Golden Globes return on Jan. 10 to air live on NBC, there will be no chance for a woman to take the stage to accept a directing award for a motion picture at the Beverly Hilton.
For the first time since the 2020 show, no woman was nominated in the best director category. That’s despite a buzzy awards year for several female filmmakers, including The Woman King’s Gina Prince-Bythewood and Women Talking‘s Sarah Polley. Other directors in the contention discussion have included Till‘s Chinonye Chukwu and She Said‘s Maria Schrader.
Polley, who both directed and wrote her feature, was nominated in the best screenplay category with Women Talking‘s composer Hildur Guðnadóttir also being recognized in the best original score competition. The Woman King garnered a leading actress nomination for Viola Davis, while She Said landed a supporting actress nom for Carey Mulligan.

A headline in last Tuesday’s Hollywood Reporter stated: “Phyllis Carlyle, Influential Talent Manager and Producer, Dies at 80.” For those who worked with Phyllis, this description is somewhat simplistic.
There are many successful female managers today. In the late 1980s and early ’90s, there were very few.
From 1990 to 1993, I was Phyllis’ assistant. That she died this September of leukemia, but the news came out two and a half months later, reminded me of the famous Beatles lyric, “Eleanor Rigby, died in a church and was buried along with her name. Nobody came.”
Phyllis was the first person in the business who believed in me. I had just graduated from AFI. I didn’t want to be a manager, but I did want to learn how to navigate the industry. Mastering how to handle the non-stop agenda of her workday was sturdy preparation...

Zombie-based movies and TV shows are not new, and the concept is becoming more flavorful than ever. Creators have taken different perspectives while bringing varied creations from Fear the Walking Dead, Z Nation, and All of Us Dead to the legendary The Walking Dead. One may even argue that we’ve had too many series based on a similar idea and the market has become far too flooded now. While some may side with this criticism, nothing would excite lovers of post-apocalyptic horrors like the creators of The Walking Dead, keeping us connected to after lives of characters we have

Tossed salad and scrambled eggs all around: Frasier is returning to television.
Paramount+ has given a series order to the long-developing revival of the series, with Kelsey Grammer once again playing the title role. The series pickup comes some 19 months after the streamer announced it was developing a follow-up to the 1993-2004 NBC series.
Prior to that, Grammer and CBS Studios began fielding ideas for a revival back in 2018. The new series will find psychiatrist/radio host Frasier Crane (Grammer) beginning the next phase of his life in a new city. The surviving members of the original cast — David Hyde Pierce’s Niles, Jane Leeves’ Daphne and Peri Gilpin’s Roz — aren’t expected to be regulars, though they could make guest appearances (John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles’ father, Martin Crane, died in 2018). At first glance, Everything’s Trash and Everything I Know About Love may seem most similar for their titles, the two monikers rife with potential for a “Who’s on First” style conundrum. Both series deal with the perils and pleasures of being young in the big city. Everything’s Trash‘s protagonist Phoebe, a well-known podcaster living in New York City, is at that particular intersection of young adulthood where career momentum hasn’t yet translated into the life she’s hoping for; whereas Everything I Know About Love‘s Maggie has just moved to London with three girlfriends (post-uni) and is trying desperately to get her foot into any professional door she can. Trash’s Phoebe is navigating the specifics of being a Black woman in a field that still mostly belongs to white men; Love‘s Maggie is navigating the sexual politics of young adulthood.

Exclusive: ABC is developing Worst House on the Block, a half-hour comedy series from 20th Television.
Written by Niki Schwartz-Wright (Pivoting) and to be directed by Natalia Anderson (Maggie), Worst House on the Block has a Beverly Hillbillies vibe to it. In the show, when a poor family from South Texas inherits the worst house on the block in a chic L.A. neighborhood, they cause quite a stir among their new neighbors. Tensions may flare, but ultimately, we’ll watch as three different families, with nothing in common but their Zip code and how overwhelmed they feel by the sheer number of Love Island episodes there are to watch, start to find common ground and, slowly but surely, friendship.
Schwartz-Wright and Anderson executive produce with 3 Arts’ Oly Obst.
Most recently, Schwartz-Wright served as co-executive producer on Fox’s comedy series Pivoting. Before that, she was a co-executive producer on the NBC comedy series Abby’s.

Rebecca Rittenhouse has an idea of what it's like to see into the future. In the new Hulu series Maggie, the actress plays a psychic whose visions sometimes cause more chaos than clarity. Hulu's new psychic romantic comedy, Maggie, is different than other rom-coms. It premiered on July 8th.
It follows Maggie (Rebecca Rittenhouse), a fortune teller who can see the future. She's been unlucky in love and avoids it because of her powers.
Her life changes when she reads Ben's (David Del Rio) palms and sees them together in the future. We chatted with David Del Rio about modern dating and this unusual love triangle involving fate. Check out the interview below:
Hi David. I have enjoyed your acting since I saw you in The Baker and The Beauty. Do you think that role helped enhance your popularity?
I don't know. I ignore that, but I do know that ever since the series streamed on Netflix, I would get stopped in the street. For me, it's not Baker and The Beauty as much as people calling me Mc Cubano on the street.
