Rollup cigarettes are constantly going out & needing to be re-lit, this is why he needed to lift the lighter back up to the cigarette.

So Scotland Yard doesn't have high speed scanners and can't email docs or use a shared drive for large files? Let's send someone away for a two-day each way flight.

Excellent

An excellent first parter to the 10 anniversary and faultless. Love the programme and the characters and the continuity of when cast members change. Whoever comes in brings their own take and personality to the character they play. Ralf Little is a combination of the three before him and he is coming into his own.

Superb

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why this episode doesn't have at least 9.5 on imdb. Anyway, this is the first of a two-part episode, with the second part featuring the long awaited guest return of Ben Miller. Here DI Parker has feelings for DS Cassell, and one can only wonder where this will lead.

It's still a shame that Madeleine Dumas (played by Aude Legastelois-Bidé) was written out after just over a season. Why?

Happy 10th Death in Paradise

Warning: Spoilers
The big '10th series celebration 2 parter' gets underway, and is an awful lot of fun.

With some good twists, and the promise of more old faces to returns in the 2nd part, this was great engaging fun.

Episode 10.5

When a celebrated concert pianist Pasha Verdinikov is killed in his home. It looks like a burglary gone wrong.

DI Parker is not sure. There were four people in the house who all had an alibi.

The victim managed to write down some initials of what could be the murderer. It turns out he died some 20 years earlier.

There was a slower pace to this mystery as it is a two parter. It does lead to speculation if the murderer has returned from the dead.

I noticed that Parker's allergies were all absent in this episode.

It is also noticeable that in the last few episodes there have been some visual flourishes by the director. Speeded up shots etc.

It all lead to a tense cliffhanger of a regular character in danger and a return of a former familiar face.

Fine at best!

Warning: Spoilers
The 10th season of "Death in Paradise" has been a pretty solid one so far with only the premiere of it being underwhelming and too straight-forward for me. This episode, sadly, I found quite disappointing too. It's not awful, but just decent at best. Far from the show's worst, but just is incomparable to other episodes in this series.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of "Death in Paradise" are great as usual. The episode looks fantastic and sounds good too. The performances are very good for the most part. Have really grown to like Ralph Little as Neville Parker as this season goes along, in fact all the regulars give top-notch performances. Out of the solid guest stars Lia Williams and Niamh Cusack are really good in their roles.

. The story has its moments of intensitiy and intrigue. There are some clever twists and the ending (with Catherine being attacked and Camille coming back) was shocking indeed.

But...

. The murder mystery, agreed, does take a while up until it gets properly going. There are just not enough intrigue and twists to being with. In the second half of the episode, where twists, turns come in, that's when the plot got going and I felt engaged in the mystery. Before that, not really.

. The humor at times felt cringy as well, because they ruin some of the grim atmosphere, which the direction creates very well, with out of the context like- jokes like the one with Marlon in the crime scene.

Overall, a fine entry to the series, which not a bad place to be for the series.

6/10 HK.

A shock ending didn't really mask a rather dull episode.

Why has a famous pianist been killed? Could one of his nearest and dearest be responsible?

I have really warmed to Neville, and indeed to this tenth series, but the start of this two part story left me a little cold to be honest. It feels to me like they had a decent idea, and decided to prolong a standard story over two episodes, it was very padded.

Normally there is someone in the mystery that you can take to, or relate to, sadly here there wasn't.

It ends well, and I hope they take that shocking moment into the second half and build on it. All I can say is they better not have.

I am a big fan of both Lia Williams and Niamh Cusack, great to have two equally talented performers here.

I like Marlon, he's been a fun character, I like the dynamic between him and JP.

The series hasn't even finished, and we're told that Little, and his chalky white legs are leaving at the end of the series, that's a real shame, a pity they hadn't waited until the end of the series to announce it.

Apart from the great ending, this was average, 6/10.
