Audiences love a bit of history. Kings, Queens, dates, battles, all of that stuff. And a big part of the fun in watching a historical drama is knowing that you are watching a version of events that have actually happened. Yes, there might not be any material evidence that J. Robert Oppenheimer’s wife was imagining him having sex with his mistress during his private security hearing, but enough of the other details are right that we don’t know for certain she didn’t.
We like learning about the small personal dramas behind the big events, and seeing how people lived and loved and worked in an age before laptops and phones. Audiences want to connect with something real. And if those historical dramas don’t get all of the details exactly right, then that’s fine too! Some people get annoyed at Neil DeGrasse Tyson-style pedantry, but...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for series five of Ghosts
Somehow, the final series of Ghosts has neatly tied up all the show’s loose ends while still leaving us wanting more – which is a jolly good thing considering they’ve confirmed we’re getting one more Christmas special in December 2023.
They really packed a lot into those last six episodes, revealing the heartbreaking truth behind the deaths of Kitty and the Captain, showing Alison and Mike’s next step in life, and giving the whole gang the opportunity to say all the lovely, touching things fans wanted to hear (as well as adding a poignant reference to Mary in the opening credits).
Taking the characters on these final journeys involved lots of flashbacks and new faces, so let’s recap all the most important guest stars from series five:

British actress Amy Manson has made it through two auditions for The CW's new Wonder Woman pilot...
Some stories carry with them more than a touch of déjà vu. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were reporting on young Adrianne Palicki donning the crown and bracelets to play TV's new Wonder Woman for the now-defunct NBC pilot, and here we are, back again, pondering the identity of her successor in The CW's Amazon.
The reason for the flurry of speculation? Three lines in a Scottish newspaper, specifically, these three lines:
"A North-east actress could be set to play Wonder Woman.
Amy Manson, originally from Westhill, could don the famous star-spangled costume of the DC Comics heroine.
The 27-year-old, who now lives in London, has made it through two rounds of nail-biting auditions for the chance to play Wonder Woman in a proposed Us TV series.

The Shadow Line actor plays a luckless loser in the adaptation of One Day but admits he's enjoying a 'golden period'
"Someone asked me recently," says Rafe Spall, squinting into the August afternoon sunshine, brow furrowed in earnest, "if I had to 'ugly up' to play the part of Ian in One Day." He pauses, looks at me incredulously, and then guffaws with laughter. "That's just my face! Just me, a wig and a bit of corduroy." It is easy to be believe he had a little help though. As the hapless Ian, the one before The One for Emma Morley in director Lone Scherfig's adaptation of the David Nicholls novel, he is scene-stealingly brilliant. While Jim Sturgess makes a convincing Dexter, and Anne Hathaway – give or take the odd slaughtering of a northern vowel – is a pleasingly palatable Emma, it is Spall, coming up quietly on the outside,...

Legend says the greatest Victorian was put off sex by the sight of his wife's naked body. A new film will try to establish the truth
The secret at the heart of the short-lived, notoriously unconsummated marriage of John Ruskin, the great artist, architect, poet and political thinker of the Victorian age, has baffled fans of his work for a century. United on his wedding night in April 1848 with Effie Gray, the girl who had been the object of some of his most beautiful writing during their courtship, something went badly wrong.
A feature film is due go into production written by Emma Thompson and starring the Oscar-nominated Carey Mulligan in the role of Gray. Together with a new book by Ruskin expert Robert Hewison, it will attempt to clear up the speculation surrounding the sex life of the man sometimes referred to as "the greatest Victorian".
"The wedding night was clearly a failure,...
