My favourite so far.

Im glad I missed the title "dual time" I read the synopsis and knew there was going to be another Tim Allen on the show but for it to be Tim "The Toolman" Taylor I absolutely loved it as I grew up watching that show. Lost one star because I really thought Richard Karn would be the one to fix Tim's screw up as always. I liked the nod to Wilson (RIP Earl Hindman) shows the respect they had for him. The little dig at Tom Hanks and Toy Story references, I for one love these cameos from Home Improvement and Santa Clause, Toy Story references and disagree with the other review about Tim Taylor, he's gotten old, he's settled with his family, its the right character and Tim Allen obviously agreed. You can tell the show is coming to an end, they introduced 2 new kids but Boyd disappeared, and now Jen seems to have gone with no reasoning why yet. Great episode in my opinion but I love the cameos.

Disappointed - it didn't work as well as it could have

9:38 p.m. Did anyone else watch the new episode of "Last Man Standing" tonight? I thought that the "Home Improvement" "Last Man Standing" crossover didn't work at all.

Tim Taylor was obliviously cocky. In tonight's episode of "Last Man Standing" they instead made him lacking in confidence and kind of pathetic. They shouldn't have made him fat and gray and in a t shirt. Tim Taylor was always well dressed. Tim A. really wasn't the character as I would have expected. He was more the character when Patricia Richardson guest starred those two times. The episode would have been better if Patricia Richardson, Jonathon Taylor Thomas, or Richard Karns from "Home Improvement" had also walked in.

When Patricia Richardson was on the show they did an homage sorta I guess to "HI" by doing some of the same things such as the way that they showed the houses, and the music, and the fence. It was really cute and funny. They tried to do the thing with the fence using the breaker box door, but it didn't work as well as having an actual fence with someone on the other side. As far as the scene with Ryan and Kristin and Kyle and Mandy it didn't work either. Later season bits with Ryan and Kyle have been pretty funny, these scenes didn't work as well. Neither did the humor with Ed and Chuck.

Things just felt off.

Missing Eve (Kaitlyn Dever) as everyone is and even Jenn who I actually kind of like.

Dual Time

Warning: Spoilers
We've had nods before, we've had full blown references and even cast members appearing in their original roles, but those were all subtle 'Home Improvement' moments compared to this full blown effort.

Tim Allen plays both Mike Baxter and Tim the Tool Man Taylor here, and it works quite nicely, without ever really living up to the potential of the idea. Perhaps not having a full studio audience due to Covid restrictions would've elevated it up a notch to...well, more power.

It is nicely done though, and there's a lot of fun in having an older version of Taylor, as well as all the references.

It does leave itself very much open to Tim Allen doing a reboot of his former show any time he wants, and that perhaps was the idea, with 'Last Man Standing' wrapping up in this its ninth year.

It's an episode hugely let down though by a lousy B plot involving the other characters, which I found a drag to get through.

So an episode of two halves.

Didn't work for me

Warning: Spoilers
When they had Patricia Richardson as the neighbor lady, and did numerous jokes and references to Home Improvement, it was great. Having Tim Allen standing around talking to himself was boring and tiresome. Season 9 has so far left me cold. Jen and Boyd have disappeared with no explanation, and there is way too much of Mandy. I'm sorry but her character has always been my least favorite and I don't think the woman who plays her is a very good actress. It's painfully obvious this show is circling the drain.
