Warning: Spoilers
Not bad, but a little slow and no major story developments came out of this one. The fact that we didn't get Pope beating up the ex husband was surprising too.

Lost its way

Unfortunately this once-brilliant show has become directionless and boring. The whole Andrew-storyline is just dull dull dull.

I'll persevere but I wish I was enjoying it more.

Flashbacks are killing the momentum.

Geezus, the flashbacks. Why? Who thought that was a good idea? I don't even watch them, which means the show is like 30% shorter for me. Why so much time devoted to flashbacks for two dead characters? And Pope is just blah. You can't have a major character like that just be a directionless zombie for a whole season. I like the Renn direction, but really, who cares about her?

Should Have Quit Winners

It happened with The Closer when Kyra Sedgewick left, and it happened to Queen of the South when Veronica Falcon and Joaquim de. Almeida left, and now it's happening to Animal Kingdom with the departure of Ellen Barkin. I'm talking about that slow (or sometimes rapid) slide downhill when the heart of the show is gone and the producers and writers are desperately struggling to keep a thing alive when the good ideas aren't coming any more.

I usually dislike TV series that are spun off from a film, but in the case of Animal Kingdom I've felt that the TV series was actually better than the film that it was based on. It's so sad that this show's producers didn't go out on a high note instead of trying to patch the hole left by Ellen Barkin's departure with the pointless flashbacks to "early Smurf".

Pointless Filler

I've been a fan of this season unlike most other people but this episode was just bad imo. Not much of anything happened here in fact you can probably skip over this episode since nothing significant happened here. Hopefully the rest of Season 5 is better then this episode.

"Young Billy" did seem to have that Dennis Leary vibe.

But the entire episode was useless.

Apparently the writers had zero ideas for this season.

Too bad; I loved this series.

I love this show but...

Warning: Spoilers
Season 5 was honestly bad compared to the rest. After a second viewing, it really does feel like nothing but filler after filler. Sure the flashbacks were annoying the first go around, but even after skimming through it the second time, there's very little left to enjoy.

Episode 1 starts off where season 4 left off, but after that, it's just Smurf flashbacks and pointless confrontations between the Cody siblings..

Gone is the chemistry between them.. Gone are the "edge of your seat" heists.

The only silver lining (having seen the entirety of the series once before), is knowing that it does eventually get back to its roots.. but season 5 honestly wouldve been better if it didn't exist at all...
