Memory and Melody: Nostalgia Explored in Riri RIza Cinematic Venture, Hindered by Musical Shadows
renerenerene3 October 2023
Mira Lesmana's latest cinematic endeavor, propelled by a seemingly profit-driven momentum, emerged as a spectacle that, while undeniably competent, left the discerning audience with a bittersweet aftertaste. Positioned as a nostalgic bridge spanning a sea of memories, the film weaves a tapestry laden with clichés, skillfully sugar-coated to render them palatable. Yet, amidst the expected tropes, Riri Riza's narrative prowess manages to elevate the experience, transforming what could have been a mere indulgence into a compelling narrative worth revisiting mentally long after the credits have rolled.

One cannot overlook the role of music, a vital component intricately interwoven within the film's fabric. The melodies, while inherently accessible, lack the potency to etch themselves deeply into the listener's consciousness. Here, the formidable legacy of Elfa Secioria, established over two decades ago, casts a daunting shadow, one that Sherina, Belanegra, and Alvin Witarsa struggle to match. The power, finesse, and emotional resonance that Elfa infused into the original composition remain an indelible benchmark, setting a standard that proves formidable to surmount for the contemporary musicians involved in this rendition.

The film, when viewed collectively, presents a cinematic journey worthy of communal enjoyment. It successfully taps into the wellspring of nostalgia, evoking shared memories and emotions. However, the true litmus test of any cinematic creation lies in its ability to beckon the viewer for a return voyage. In this aspect, the film falters. Its allure, although potent in the moment, lacks the enduring magnetism necessary to beckon the audience for subsequent screenings.

In essence, Lesmana's creation stands as a testament to the delicate interplay between memory, storytelling, and auditory resonance. While it successfully treads the waters of nostalgia, it ultimately falls short of becoming an enduring classic. The film, though a commendable effort, reminds us that in the realm of cinema, capturing the ephemeral essence of memory requires more than a mere reiteration of past glories. It necessitates an alchemical fusion of narrative innovation and musical brilliance, a delicate equilibrium that, sadly, eludes this otherwise proficient cinematic spectacle.

Petualangan Sherina 2 was beautiful, energic, and... MUSICAL

Petualangan Sherina 2 was beautiful, energic, and... MUSICAL (of course). I'm glad to watch this movie in theatre, it's very difficult looking for a good musical in this country. But Petualangan Sherina 2 show up and give me a joy.

The music is magnificent, and so nostalgic. It's Disney typical music with traditional Indonesian music touch. Some song has same vibes as previous film, which is great. The storyline was good enough and delivered good too, the director has done a great job in this aspect. But one thing that make my watching experience little bit bitter is the bad CGI. That's aspect ruin the beauty of music in this movie. But overall, it's great and nostalgic musical.

Amazing work

When I heard the movie would be coming out, I could never cease to replay the songs and teasers. They made me smile in reminiscence. Hope it lived up to the hype.

While there are many horror movies surround, Petualangan Sherina 2 hits theaters and catches a lot of attention. Sherina carries out well acting as she is the star of the show. I really enjoy her performance. She is indeed the great actress that has excellent talent.

The story and the roles will revive your great excitement. The setting in Kalimantan forest and the bravery of Sherina in executing the problem are awesome idea. We need more roles and updated stories like this.

La la land indonesian version that's best describe for this movie.

Petualangan Sherina 2 takes us on a delightful trip down memory lane, filled with nostalgia and Sherina also Derby's impeccable performance. This film beautifully encapsulates the essence of the original Petualangan Sherina, making it a must-watch for fans and newcomers alike.

One of the standout aspects of the movie is the way it effortlessly transports us back to our childhoods. The film's attention to detail in recreating the world of Sherina and her adventures is commendable. The nostalgic references and familiar characters bring a warm sense of nostalgia that tugs at the heartstrings.

Was expecting a cashgrab. but i got a decent story
iliveinindonesialmao2 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was not expecting that much watching this movie originally, It might be a cash-grab and or it might not deliver considering the now legendary status of the original sherina adventure. But when i watched the movie all of my worries are false, its enjoyable although somewhat long and the characters, songs, and 2 hours flew, And another suprising thing is that sherina isn't annoying or is just one dimensional, sherina advanced the plot forwards, and it made logical sense too. Without sherina chasing the villains the story would probably not have the same outcome, The police would probably not find the baby orangutan or the main antagonist would get slightly tilted or order a new orangutan. But at the same time Sherina isn't treated like this someone who cant do no wrong, no sherina did a lot of mistakes in the movie. She didn't report the president's speech that she's supposed to report, she essentially told the hunters that she is following them by being cocky and accidentally doing the branch cliche, then gets locked up in a warehouse for 2 days. And almost lost her life before giving said orangutan to the funny evil middlewoman bodyguard girl, But she thankfully redeems herself by finding out who bought the orangutan in the first place, And actually tried to y'know listen to what other people say ,neat.

The biggest issue in my opinion are probably the side characters. Outside of sherina and sadam, most of the characters(Especially the villains) felt one note. But i think its probably intentional, this movie is already too long. And a complete backstory for each of them would bloat up this movie even more and ruin the pacing. But they do somewhat feel generic, which is expected for a kids movie. Another potential issue is sherina's payback. But i think this is due to my retrospective, Sherina kind of said i'm sorry and that's the most noticeable part. Sure the final action sequence where sherina and sadam work as a team to defeat the evil woman is probably a metaphor. But i can't remember what else sherina did to tell that she grew. But overall its a 9/10 it does its job as a family movie spectacularly with some nitpicks that's mostly caused by me not being good at remembering stuff. Sure its not trying some political commentary, but its not trying to Its just trying to tell you to not kidnap baby orangutans the best way it can TLDR: good movie, main characters are well written, a nice moral. And it does its job as a fun action/musical while having a side of well written plot.
