PLL was my whole life, but we all know how that turned out. To rate this a 10 would just not be appropriate. So, i have only seen the first episode so far and here's what I think: I love that this one is darker than the original (I missed that in the og, after a few years it was just toooo teenie for me) To be fair, I was afraid of the new cast but I already love most of them which is kind of relieving. My only fear is that this show wants to be too much of a slasher show without any meaning behind the deaths. That the man at the end gets killed was totally unnecessary in my opinion... I hope there will be more meaningful deaths. That's pretty much everything I have to say for now. I hope A will be someone we know from the very start and I am one of the people that hopes it's one of the main girls. Well, that's it, I look forward to finding out who A will be and hope it will make sense in the end without being some random guy.

John Carpenter's Mean Girls

Never seen Pretty Little Liars before but I tried this since I love slashers. Original Sin is campy, self-aware, and surprisingly well written. Each of the main characters has a distinct personality, with distinct flaws. There's so much unhinged behavior, coupled with pop music and cleverly framed shots. Karen, in particular is the most hilariously deranged character in the cast.

This is much more of a spiritual successor to Scream than Scream 5 was. It references modern horror flicks and filmmakers in a comical way. It's clear the directors have an understanding of their horror influences in the cinematography techniques. They never shy away from showing gory gruesome kills.

I loved the callbacks to Nightmare on Elm Street's school dream sequences. The creepy background music and handheld camera during these scenes really sell the scares. The few jump-scares it has are mostly well done, where it succeeded more was the psychological horror.

Acting-wise, not top notch, but they're talented enough to deliver at key moments. My favorite part of PLL: Original Sin is the one liners, "Fincher, Zodiac. Don't." was the best one. If you absolutely despise Zoomer words and phrases, just don't bother, but I largely think they approach the script with self-awareness and the over-the-top delivery implies irony.

It's shocking, funny, and most of all, scary. Give it a chance even if you're not a fan of the original.

Just another budget wannabe.

The only good thing about this was the 40 seconds of Rob Zombie... At the end.

Basic acting with a story line thay has been overplayed a million times.

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1 pilot: The acting is average, the setting and atmosphere more than average-good with attention to details, most of the cast more than horrible, the vibe and flow rodent furry and the show as much PLL as a Datsun is a Buick.

Could still progress and improve, but I doubt it and more importantly, is it a limited one-season nonsense?

Talking about killing a "rival", not good at all for brain-washed cells.

Promising start

Warning: Spoilers
As someone who usually favors substance over style, I have to say that the main thing that drew me into this Pilot episode for this Pretty Little Liars offshoot series is the inviting old-fashioned horror aesthetic! Paying homage to the original PLL series as well as such iconic horror films as Halloween, Carrie, Saw, Scream, and I Know What You Did Last Summer (among other horror films), this episode "Spirit Week" follows the trajectory of the original series with a handful of teen girls, this time in 2022, being manipulated and terrorized by a mystery caller, still called "A" on this show. Set in another fictional small Pennsylvania town called Millwood, the story opens in a flashback scene at a New Year's Eve party in 1999, the eve of Y2K, where a high school girl commits suicide by jumping off the rafters of the school gym as the student body, including her 5 apathetic friends, watch in terror. Flashforward to the present day as the 5 high school group of friends, who have drifted apart, each have a daughter the same age as they were on the night of the tragedy. The 5 daughters are being sent mysterious text messages (like A from the original show and also Ghostface from Scream) as well as being stalked by a scary guy in a jump suit (like Michael Myers from Halloween) and wearing a pig mask (like Jigsaw from the Saw series). But are the texter and stalker even they the same person, or possibly two different people working together or even separately? The girls are also outcasts that have a common bully, the school's most popular girl who is running for prom queen, which gives off Carrie vibes. In this episode, each of the girls is framed and put in detention. Thinking it's the bully, the girls decide to get revenge. But chances are that it's the person and persons out for revenge against their mothers from the incident in 1999, where the I Know What You Did Last Summer homage comes in, except last summer was 22 summers ago. Sins of the mothers passed onto their daughters. The episode gives off a heavy horror vibe with creepy angular camera shots, ominous music, jump scares, the shadowy stalker figure, and freeze frame time stamps reminiscent of old school horror movies from the 80s and 90s. Unlike the original series which felt more modern and leaned on romance and parody, this series feels a bit more atmospheric and old-fashioned with it's eerie old town setting, dark lighting, and stylish camera work, which makes it feel more like full on horror. The characters could use some work as no one really stands out yet. And the dialogue is a bit cliche and on the nose, like the horror fan girl who constantly references classic horror movies as well as famous directors like Hitchcock, DePalma, and Peele. But overall, the style, atmosphere, and vibe is well done and overcomes the more cliche elements. Hopefully, the substance eventually catches up to the style and this show could be a winner.

Don't live up to the original
limarochajunior30 July 2022
As some of the reviews said before, this is not PLL, this is a different show, but we all know that they only kept the tittle because of popularity, because of everything that PLL accomplished and what Marlene did. This is a show for fans of slash movies, of tv shows like Scream, Scream Queens, and so on, which is what I liked about it as a huge fan of slasher, but the characters, the plot are a lot similar to Riverdale, even the shots and the aesthetic feels the same as Riverdale. Overall, it's not a bad tv show, but it's not PLL and will never be.

Clearly not pretty little liars
jrluvsmileyc-853775 August 2022
Only one thing can be said that's good about this and that's the fact that they played a Marina song. The acting is horrible, the storyline is forced and the setting is one of the worst settings. The semi sepia tone and wanna be dark fog is more annoying than anything.

Missing what the original had
jackod-7926928 July 2022
Pretty little liars: original Sin feels and acts as a complete difference from what the original show was, so why call it pretty little liars ? The opening episode itself was weak and felt rush with weird camera effects and quick jump shots that just don't work. The writing is weak and it just doesn't have any qualities that the original show had. Why can't they just leave Pretty little liars was and stop creating spin off that no one wants, anyway let's see if this is gonna make it past one season.
