Qdos have added six ‘Best of British’ cases to its Smoothies collection for the iPhone 4 and 4S. In a year that has celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic Games, the Best of British range features eye catching, patriotic designs inspired by famous London icons. These lightweight, scratchproof, polycarbonate cases offer maximum, long lasting protection.
Designed to preserve the look and feel of the iPhone, the ‘Best of British’ cases are made from hardwearing polycarbonate, which has been layered to emulate the double glass finish of the iPhone itself. The striking graphics are embedded deep within the polycarbonate, for a scratchproof resistance and colours that won’t fade, peel or chip over time. A smooth satin finish adds a distinctive sheen to the colours. The cases also feature a unique bevelled outside edge to help protect the screen and reinforce the grip.

The winner
Following three stunning weeks at the top of the box office chart, The King's Speech finally meets its match in the form of Disney animation Tangled, which debuts with an impressive £5.11m. That's way ahead of the number achieved by the last non-Pixar Disney animation, The Princess and the Frog, which began its run just under a year ago with £2.22m.
In fact, it was the disappointing figures for Princess that prompted yet another rethink on what Disney had long been developing as Rapunzel – the latest in its properties based on fairytale princesses. Boys, it was felt, had not wanted to see a film with "princess" in the title, prompting concerns over Rapunzel – she of the long golden tresses. Repackaged as Tangled, with an equal marketing...

To celebrate the January 31 DVD release of hard-hitting British drama Zebra Crossing, we’re giving away 5 lucky winners a copy of the award-winning film on DVD.
Set amongst the backdrop of the towering, concrete-clad estates of South London, award winning UK drama Zebra Crossing marks the directorial debut from Sam Holland and stars Lee Turnbull (Shameless).
Justin is looking for a way out. In a brutal world where gangland violence, drug dealing and street fighting is a way of life, getting out of the game was never going to be easy, especially with mates like Tommy, Sean and Billy. But as Justin finds hope from an unlikely source, Tommy’s drug debts spiral out of control, dragging everyone into a world where only survival matters. Blending the surreal with the very real, Zebra Crossing is a powerful, disturbing, adrenaline-packed journey. This fast paced and at times utterly terrifying story is...

Zebra Crossing
Stars: Lee Turnbull, Greg Wakeham, Aaron White, Kyle Treslove | Written and Directed by Sam Holland
Zebra Crossing is the first feature from writer and director Sam Holland. Shot in stylish black and white, the film revolves around Justin (Turnbull), a young man living in a broken home in South London. His mother is absent, his father neglectful and his confidante sister bedridden. Justin’s days are spent in the company of his friends, a group of delinquent criminals, led by the unhinged and aggressive Tommy (Wakeham). Justin is torn between a loyalty to his friends and a desire to better himself and to escape the life of prejudice, drugs, violence and crime his companions are choosing for him.
Being a first feature, we can perhaps forgive Holland for a few contrivances and clumsy creative choices, for example the overwritten and portentous narration that occurs sporadically throughout the film.

A low-budget Brit thriller that's been sweeping up awards on the independent film circuit this year, Zebra Crossing comes careering into our cinemas early next year. It's a black-and-white, fiercely visceral ride in the company of four friends through South London's meaner streets. One of the four, Justin (Lee Turnbull), is looking for an escape from the gangland violence, drug dealing and despair that surrounds him. His mates, though - the controlling Tommy (Greg Wakeham) in particular - have other ideas. And, as this clip suggests, Tommy may just be a couple of cans short of a six-pack... Set a short bottle toss from the enflamed estates of Harry Brown, this looks like another violently uncompromising slab of social realism to have South London estate agents weeping into their Minis. If the gongs and buzz are anything to go by, Zebra Crossing is definitely one to seek out in the new year.

Over the weekend Slumdog Millionaire won big at the British Independent Film Awards as Danny Boyle took home director kudos, Dev Patel won for most promising newcomer and the film itself won best independent film. Of course, many are reporting the news as if this is just the start of something big as buzz around the little film has gotten louder and louder over the course of the previous week. I reviewed it and gave it a well-earned "A-", but when it comes down to awards I can't see this flick moving all the way to the big show. Take, for example, the last five Bifa "Best British Independent Film" award winners were Control, This Is England, The Constant Gardener, Vera Drake and Dirty Pretty Things. Of that bunch there are eight Oscar nominations including a win for Rachel Weisz for The Constant Gardener, but there isn't a best picture...

The winners of the 11th British Independent Film Awards have been announced on Sunday, November 30, and one that is shinning brighter than the others is "Slumdog Millionaire". In the announcement made at Old Billingsgate Market in London, the Danny Boyle-directed movie about a poor Indian boy who gets a shot at winning millions in a television game show brought home three kudos.
Nominated for six categories, "Slumdog" has nailed three of the coveted awards given away, including the Best British Independent Film title. The romantic comedy drama has also brought recognition to its director Danny Boyle, who received the Best Director prize, and its star Dev Patel, who is hailed to be the Most Promising Newcomer.
In the meantime, "Hunger" and "In Bruges" which dominated the nomination with seven nods each failed to win big. "Hunger" got three awards, The Douglas Hickox Award or the Best Debut Director kudo for director Steve McQueen,...
