A pretty good season opener with some funny jokes. Well done family guy. Hopefully this season puts the show back on the map!

So-so

The Lois/Meg plot wasn't too bad, while the Peter/Chris/Stewie/Brian subplot was so so. There were a few funny jokes, but overall not the strongest season premier. Still happy FG is back!

Fairly good, nothing special

Warning: Spoilers
I did find the plot with Lois kinda painful to watch. I mean profiting of lying, that is not very nice at all. I really liked the Stewie and Doug-plot though. In general pretty good episode.

I enjoyed the Episode & new Cleveland Brown's voice sounded exactly as Mile Henny which is surprisingly good thank goodness.

Family guy, while nowhere near as good as the older episodes, is still very entertaining and worth a watch.

Hmmm........
10086cn27 September 2021
Lois, after recovering, still tries to profit off her injury. Now where have I seen that idea used before... oh yes! In Futurama! In the episode Bendin' in the Wind. Pretty shocking to see something blatantly unoriginal in a season premiere.

Everything that's wrong with Family Guy in one episode.
herculeanes1 October 2021
1) Old characters are cut out or changed beyond recognition. The new ones are not capable of replacing the old ones. For example, a stylish kid, who for some reason is Stewie's enemy. Although, to call this character "enemy" is already a strong word. I'm surprised that an entire episode was dedicated to him. I don't even remember his name, the character is so bland.

2) Censorship. When Family Guy try to joke about "we can't joke about anyone this days" it's not funny, it's sad. And these are facts that the authors do not even try to change. There is no Aesop language or other attempts to implicitly ridicule its censors like Disney. Jokes about Burbank seem clumsy and hardly everyone knows that Disney's headquarters are located there.

3) Political propaganda. Family guy always leaned to the left, but invited right-wing politicians and did not suppress right-wing thought. Now the show even denies reality for the sake of the mainstream agenda.

4) The show doesn't make sense now. Family Guy was originally a show about a TV nerd who knows everything about celebrities, their personal lives, and more. Now that people watch less TV and are less interested in celebrity life, authors have no material, and viewers have no interest in such jokes. Good movies don't come out, there are too many bad ones and you can't joke about it, because they are either created by Disney, or Netflix, their competitor.

Netflix, in turn, often uses celebrities inappropriately and relies too much on unknown actors. That makes the joke about "Netflix for the Blind" seem strange. They don't even try for sighted viewers. One gets the impression that the writers have not watched any Netflix show and do not understand what they are talking about.

So now all attempts to joke about celebrities in the classic Family Guy style feel so silly and inappropriate. Other shows about nostalgia and cultural references are superior to Family Guy.

5) Cutaways are now rare and not funny. I understand why the creators abandoned this idea - it is too expensive and difficult. But these jokes made the show interesting and the humor random.

The cutaways on the show right now are not inspiring. An excellent indicator is fan collections of cuts, or rather, their absence. Even the cutaways episode doesn't contain many cutaways! This is absurd.

6) Plot. Yes, Family Guy was often ridiculed for the simplicity or absurdity of the plots. But even then, there were episodes that involved the viewer in events, even simple ones. Sometimes this show gave itself quite tangible drama. Family Guy are now capable of causing all shades of irritation and this is not an achievement.

7) Fans. Fans will praise even a mediocre episode among squalid episodes.

A strong start to the season has never been a Family Guy feature. But now, a weak start to the season has become a tradition. Get used to this if you haven't dropped the show yet.

One of the best episodes, don't listen to haters
rsweeneyrs28 September 2021
This was a hilarious one, while also being interesting. I am very happy to see this season start off so strong. Cutaways are actually funny and believe it or not, they're relevant and tie into the plot, unlike most other episodes. This is fantastic, its funny, interesting, witty, I don't know how you couldn't love it. These critics might as well be saying "Its okay, but it isn't deep and emotional so I hate it". Dont listen to them and check this out, it is so good.

A few funny moments, but a season premiere should feel like an event, and this definitely was not that. Just more of Louis being annoying.

What an amazing episode! I laughed and cried and had a great time! The part where peter blows up like that balloon was hilarious! These new episodes are really something else. I don't care what other people will say, this episode was awesome. They didn't change the formula with the ICU thing where lois was and then wasn't blind, but it was a nice lesson for her!!

croc-574-2025695 June 2022
In season 4 episode 3 in fact the last 3 seasons have just been tham doing that but than again that's how they started with ripping off the Simpsons and in soMe ways South Park and beavis and butthead.

Very great episode premiere in a while.

This episode's premier was better than the last two season premieres. It was certainly refreshing to see Lois going through a similar yet entertaining blind arc like Peter did in season 4. It was hilarious and interesting as well as the subplot with Peter, Brian, Stewie and Chris helping Stewie's rival with family issues.

It wasn't a bad episode of Family Guy. There have been
jpapanone30 May 2022
A TON of bad Family Guy episodes.

This is a boring, non episode.

Absolutely nothing happens.

No laughs whatsoever. Not a chuckle. Not a smile.

Watching this or nothing result in the same exact thing.......nothing.

Completely irrelevant.

I'd rather it be 22 minutes of Peter rubbing his hurt ankle than watch this nothingness. Waste of so many things....time, effort, etc.

Family Guy is finally back on the up and up?
backup-5036220 September 2022
After countless horrendously unfunny seasons this one is starting STRONG. This first episode of season 20 is really funny, has some really clever jokes, even if for some reason Louis continues being the main character, and both sub-plots reuse old Family Guy sub-plots...

It's still way better than most of the previous seasons, and hopefully a sign that the rest of the season will be just as good, if not better. And also hopefully a sign that Family Guy isn't as dead as it seemed, but can come back again swinging. We'll see.

But yeah, good first episode for this season. Actually made me laugh.

Lasik Instinct New Storyline
mcclearyr-1156213 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Plot:

While dropping Stewie off at preschool, Lois accidentally strikes his playmate, Doug. She discovers she needs LASIK surgery, but after the procedure she finds she's totally blind. In order to bring her out of her funk, Meg convinces her to make a video talking about her feelings. The video becomes a success and Lois spins it into marketing under the name ICU, despite Meg insisting that she's taking it beyond its original purpose. But when Lois wakes up one morning and discovers she can see again, she tries to keep it hidden so that she won't have her marketing destroyed. However, Meg become suspicious when she's able to walk down a set of stairs unaided. Before she can talk to her about this, Lois is offered the chance to go on a big talk show. Meg's suspicions are confirmed when Lois can clearly see the colors of a dress that she's trying to choose between. On stage, Lois gives the game away when she can clearly see Reese Witherspoon holding a big check for her charity. As punishment, she is forced to appear on a daytime courtroom drama hosted by Cleveland Brown.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to avoid a lawsuit, the Griffins volunteer to build a treehouse for Doug, whose own parents are too busy to attend to him. Stewie asks Olivia, his baby girlfriend, to join them in volunteering. However, their good intentions lead to a series of additional activities where Doug benefits from their assistance. As the activities pile up, the Griffins start to doubt Doug's sincerity and threaten to inform his father. Stewie takes matters into his own hands and tries to call Doug's father, only to discover that Doug had been manipulating the situation to spend more time with them. When Doug's father arrives and prioritizes his mistress over his son, Chris and Brian offer to retaliate, while Stewie and Doug agree to keep their personal issues separate from their private lives. Olivia invites Stewie for ice cream in which he agrees after Doug's departure.
