"Mission Majnu" - A Gripping Tale of Love and Espionage
krish-sarkar8 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Mission Majnu" is a riveting spy thriller that captures the essence of India's covert operations during the 1970s. The movie follows the story of a group of RAW agents who are assigned to gather intel on the Pakistani army's activities near the India-Pakistan border. The mission was to gather intel on nuclear installations in Pakistan is led by Siddharth Malhotra as Amandeep Singh, who plays the role of a charming and witty spy guises in name of 'Tariq'.

The film has been plotted around the love story between Tariq and a blind local girl named Nasreen, played by the Rashmika Mandanna. The chemistry between the two actors are palpable, and their romantic scenes are a refreshing break from the high-stakes espionage action. A typical hindi film to attract audience. The film's director, Shantanu Bagchi, does an excellent job of balancing the two storylines, making sure that neither overshadows the other.

One of the movie's significant strength is its attempt on 'attention to detail'. From the retro costumes to the vintage cars and locations, the film transports you back to the 1970s era. The film's production values are top-notch, and the cinematography is excellent, capturing the lush greenery and rugged terrain of the border areas.

Another standout aspect of "Mission Majnu" is its strong supporting cast. Be it Kumud Mishra as the maulana, Avijit Dutt as Morarji Desai, or Rajit Singh playing Bhutto, Mir Sarwar - a Kashmir born actor, as A Q Khan and Ashwath Bhatt as General Zia-ul-haq - everyone delivers a convincing performance. All sequences are well-executed, and the film's background score adds to the tension.

However, the film's runtime feels a bit stretched in parts, and some of the subplots could have been trimmed. Nonetheless, "Mission Majnu" is a commendable attempt at creating a spy-thriller that caters to a wide audience. It is an enjoyable and engaging film that keeps you hooked till the end.

In conclusion, "Mission Majnu" is a watchable film for anyone who loves a good spy-thriller. It has everything that makes a movie entertaining - action, romance, suspense, and drama. A low cost better than usual expensive Bollywood casted film. So, grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy this gripping tale of love and espionage.

It is not a 1 star or 10 star movie
cooldwijen10 February 2023
While through the user reviews I find lots of Osman and Farhan giving it just 1 star and it makes you wonder whose side are they. The director has obviously taken liberties in the name of entertainment. But the fact behind the movie can't be ignored completely. The spy war is an ongoing thing between the two neighboring countries.

Engaging Spy Thriller
aji4u4ever25 January 2023
Mission Majnu is an espionage romantic thriller released in Netflix. The story revolves around the true events happened durint the 70s, where Pakistan was making a nuclear bomb secretly and the effort of Indian Spies to expose the secrecy.

This is a story of Amandeep Singh who is Tariq, a tailor in disguise falls in love with a local blind girl Nasreen and is assigned with a mission to find the Pakistan's secret nuclear facility thus to stop the process of making the bomb.

Even though the story is predictable, but the performances of the lead actors, the narration, taut screenplay and execution made this as a wonderful engaging movie. I really loved the performance of Siddharth Malhotra. He was totally gelled with that character. Kumud Mishra & Shabir Hashmi did a wonderful job where Rashmika Mandanna justified as her blind love interest/wife of the protagonist. Some scenes will water your eyes, thats for sure. Songs were nicely placed and was pretty good. But the background score was nice but could have been better. Cinematography was pretty good but not the best. There were some scenes where it loses the steam but all in whole the debutante Shantanu Bagchi didn't let me down, even he has to work in some parts, delivered an engaging espionage thriller.

Story of a spy in India of the 70s
madanmarwah3 February 2023
The plot is about a young Indian spy ( Sidharth Malhotra) positioned in Pakistan and who masquerades as a tailor. Reminded me of the title of an old movie " Tinker tailor soldier spy" since the hero here is a tailor and a spy also. ( Only title, not plot). If you agree that a spy can be emotional, can fall in love, get married and continue spying in that country then this movie is for you. The movie has a long runtime and maybe the long winded story required it. It is to the credit of the screen writer and the director that the story moves smoothly though there may be technical inaccuracies because it is based on real events. To me the depiction of events during the period 1970s like the 71 war, Pokharan nuclear blast, Prime Minister Bhutto's tirade, takeover of Pakistan government by General Zia, PM Indira Gandhi's emergency etc are fairly well covered. How the spy manages to locate the clandestine nuclear facility in Pakistan overcoming obstacles forms the plot. He has earlier got married to a blind Pakistan girl ( Rashmika Mandanna) which gives an emotional touch.

Director Shantanu Bagchi has made an interesting movie which keeps the audience engaged with enough of sentiment and dramatic scenes. One should sit back and watch the movie without asking questions. Some passable acting comes from Siddharth Malhotra, Rashmika Mandana, Kumud Mishra and Sharib Hashmi. The depiction of the famous personalities from history is done fairly well except maybe General Zia where the actor overacts. Use of stock shots from history is appropriate.

Excellent movie

Warning: Spoilers
MISSION MAJNU is a gripping saga with a tight script, intelligent scenes, taut execution, and a memorable performance. The more I watched this movie with glee and the more this movie is commendable. Sidharth Malhotra always makes me stupendous with his awesome acting. This is sidharth's best patriotic movie after aiyaary and shershah. Shantanu Bagchi's direction is praiseworthy, especially considering that this is his first film. He keeps the viewers captivated and, in some scenes, he raises the tension levels very well. With little scope for action, the director ensures that there's an abundance of drama and thrill in the movie.

Flawed yet interesting and something to know about
Biswas_20 January 2023
Many new gen kids are probably not aware of the illegal nuclear trial that Pakistan was about to conduct after 1971 and how india managed to expose them through their spies.

Mission majnu is like a Raazi only. Only the mission of Tariq aka Amandeep is different, that is , to find the Pakistani illegal nuclear facility and report to india .

The story of the film is interesting and something that everyone should know about. It's not something shown in extreme detail but whatever is shown is enough to give you an idea of what exactly was the situation then.

Screenplay is also very fast paced, so much so that the husband wife scenes don't really act as a bone in the meat. Nowhere does the pace slacken.

However, the film is highly flawed . While some flaws can be ignored, some absolutely can't. The portrayal of Pakistani generals and leaders have not changed one bit . It's literally the same every film. You have a pm of Pakistan saying "We will destroy india with nuclear bomb" while feasting upon a birthday pastry. Isn't that unintentionally funny?? Similarly many such scenes are there which I felt were unintentionally funny from a weirdly funny train station sequence to a Zia ul haq looking and acting unintentionally funny.

One good thing about this film is patriotism is not force fed. Throughout the film there is just one , just one mini monologue from Sid about patriotism and that's it. Nowhere else do we hear about patriotism and unnecessary "Bharat mata ki jai" everywhere although there is one but the intention with which it is said is different.

Action sequences are there and they are decent. Performance wise Siddharth is pretty decent in this role. Kumud Mishra also does good job. Sharib felt wasted so did Rashmika. Actors who played pakistani leaders were decent but their characters itself were flawed and cliched.

Overall, a decent one time watch. Could have been even better had the flaws not been present or if Bollywood tried to portray pakistani leaders as something more realistic than the typical villian type characters. A good watch for those expecting something interesting and informative.

Great acting
piyalisetta22 January 2023
Just Watch #MissionMajnu what a masterpiece movie 💝🙌🏻💯🔥 SidMalhotra brilliant performance & Rashmika you totally nailed it 💗 One of the best movie ever. Very nice movie based on real life story and heroism. A must watch. A big thumbs-up to the makers. It's a complete family entertainer. If you loved movies like Raazi, Uri etc. This is something you will enjoy. It has some obvious story line, some cinematic liberties but to think that this could be a real life story is chilling. The story is gripping right from the beginning and no where does the movie loses its pace. Dialogues are carefully thought out and will make you think more than what is said.

Entertaining without newness
cifarshayar25 January 2023
Sidharth Malhotra delivers another good performance for an OTT release. Although film didn't offer anything unseen for an undercover raw agent movie (refer D Day (2013), Phantom(2013) Raazi (2018) etc) but Sidharth-Rashmika's chemistry, his character's innocence and than presence of mind made it an entertaining watch. Story is thrilling and creates goosebumps moments but mostly predictable. Actua;;y I think we have seen too much of this Indo-Pak rivalry spy movies that we are craving for kind of Sita Ramam . Mission Majnu is definitely not the best but not a bad movie at all, it deserves a watch.

Got bored midway
vikasher200721 January 2023
Weak script, too slow, mediocre acting and so many illogical scenes.

How come a movie contains so many illogical scenes and still netflix is buying this kind of movies?

If you are a person who like spy movies/series and expect to get blown away by spy like skills, then this movie is not for you. 30minutes in the movie and it will bore the heck out of you. You will feel cheated for the time you are planning to spend on this movie.

You not only wll be disappointed but will definitely get angry with this mockery.

Good that this movie is released in netflix otherwise viewers would have hated spending money on multiplexes.

Good movie
chanchalsannyashi-6689922 January 2023
What a film! I watched this film yesterday, which is captivating from beginning to end. Siddharth is often a formidable contender for the role of army officer. There is a fantastic Bollywood film on Netflix. Mission Majnu, a spy thriller, is inspired by genuine occurrences. You will feel a range of emotions, including a strong sense of patriotism. Songs are pretty honest. Except for Siddhartha, who occasionally overacted, the performers demonstrated remarkable character development. What a film; it is definitely made for the theater, but it also looks great on ott. Another great performance from this person.

Low-key enjoyable spy thriller.
magadalwarmayur20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is not perfect but it doesn't need to be because it is quite enjoyable. It is one of the better spy thriller out there.

Sidharth and mandana do a good job. Sid exhibited a very nuanced & restraint act.. His expressions were on point throughout . He shined brilliantly in emotional scenes & also did action quite efficiently .

Direction is of very good standard. Story telling keep the viewers engrossed throughout ,the way film showcased patriotic scenes without going overboard is commendable.

The plot could have been better so dose the screenplay but Despite its flaws mission Majnu keeps you engaged.

Demonstration of Cheap Patriotism
asif_ishti22 January 2023
I don't know how long Indian audiences will keep giving 10 stars to such BS movies. No solid plots, spies are super lucky, all security personnels of the enemy are dumb, unnecessary and unrealistic fighting scene-- all the components of a cheap spy movie you will find in this movie. The movie could be a good one, yes.. it has that potential, but the scriptwriter or the director did not want to use their head.

To make matters worse, Siddharth failed to do a great job here, despite having some good opportunities to demonstrate his acting ability. Throughout the movie, for the spying part, he looked happy-go-lucky. He failed to portray the tension or suspense or thrill of spying in enemy army territory.

If you are into spy movie, watch Romeo-Akber-Walter and Phantom movies. Those two are gems compared to this Mission Majnu movie.

Keeps you on the edge.
12ka46 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The background is of 70s and 80s when India conducted its nuclear tests and Pakistan wanted to catch up. Now, while India did it 'legally' (many criticize the government for doing it too late), Pakistani establishment had to resort to dubious tactics and kept its program under wraps.

In this, an Indian spy establishes himself in Pakistan and sets out to expose the Pakistan nuclear program.

The spy's moves and what could happen to him keeps you on the edge throughout.

Siddharth in his brilliant performance like in Sher Shah, lives the character. There is a relationship with a blind Pakistani girl adds a human touch. That is also brilliantly portrayed by Rashmika.

The twists and turns keep you engaged. The ending is somber but heartwarming if you think from the Indian side.

What the movie doesn't tell you is that Gen Zia got away with this 'expose' and a lot more including hanging Zulfikar Bhutto because his help was needed to counter Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Terrible script writing.

Warning: Spoilers
Well as a spy movie fan I am disappointed after watching this movie. A spy movie should have more mystery, action and drama in it. Watched whole movie but i still remember one line of it, "We got our freedom on the basic of love and peace''. Really, what you think the audiences that we are moron to buy this propaganda of yours. Britishers left India because we gave them so much love that they can't digest it so they left India and have mercy on us 😂.. So grateful of them. That saloon part depicts Sir Ajit Doval life when he is on his mission in Pakistan..but the way agent majnu picked that hair and walk away in market is really hilarious to watch.

Perfect Screen Play
engineer_anubhav25 January 2023
Sidharth Malhotra in kurta pyjama, with kohl-rimmed eyes, plays an R&AW agent in Pakistan who marries an innocent girl and using her as a cover in his mission to expose a nuclear facility. Mission Majnu boasts of a winner plot that's high on patriotism and heroic deeds. It is emotional, engaging and exciting. But, the experience is marred by too many easy coincidences and loopholes that are hard to ignore. Ahead of Republic Day, Director Shantanu Bagchi pays a tribute to all heroes who don't wear a uniform and sacrifice their lives for their motherland. However, the story, jointly written by Aseem Arrora, Sumit Batheja and Parveez Shaikh, falters at several places and doesn't let Mission Majnu hit hard.

Maati ko maa kehte hain..
AnoopVarma19 February 2023
Maati ko maa Kehte hain.. Mission Majnu..just completed watching on Netflix.

First Raaji and now Mission Majnu...both film inspired by true story of our agency's undercover in Pakistan.

Both movie is worth watching.

Here I will talk about Mission Majnu. A true documented event about blunder of then PM Morarji Desai..which led to total destroy of network of RAW developed by R N Kao. Hundred of our RAW agents killed in Pakistan by Zia Ul Haque due to just ridiculous mistakes by then PM Morarji Desai.

Nuclear Bomb issues related to Pakistan, many of our current generation don't know. Exceptionally amazing Mission Majnu is about that.

Matribhakti Rasthrabhakti khoon may hoti hai..dil may hoti hai..Isko chilla kar dikhaney ki jaroorat nahi hoti..aapkey karm aapki soch rasthraprem dikhlati hai.

Brilliant performance by each and every artist.. Siddarth Malhotra, Rashmi Mandana, Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Avijit Dutt and others ..every department of the film is superb. Brilliant delivery by DOP Brijitesh Dey..Production designer Rita Ghosh is as per the period and time..But more was needed in VFX work. Director Shantanu Bagchi has to work in some area..but delivered a masterpiece spy thriller.

Lastly Mission Majnu is a watchable movie for everyone due to the tight script, intelligently written scenes, tight execution, and a memorable performance by Sidhartha and all artist.

Great movie
ktgreatrules12 February 2023
Whole movie was based on true events. Sidharth and rashmika did really great job. Sidharth, He was amazing in the film. After shershah he delivered yet another desh bhakti film. I really liked how the direction of the film was. Whole movie was entertaining. Romance, wittiness of characters, unfolding plots on certain events and everything was so good that i almost feel how nerve wrecking and dangerous it would be to stay on enemy's land and still have desh bhakti. This movie yet again slaps on the face of all self claimed stars and made me realise our reall heros are on the field fighting and always protecting India from enemy, without them may be we would have seen nuclear attack on india from barbaric countries like Pakistan.

"Bharat mata ki jay" gave me goosebumps, whole last chase sequence was so intense. I hate it because it was real and it breaks my heart.

You should watch it 100%. Specially if you are Bhartiya. Jay hind, vande mataram.

Patriotism, told subtly
vijayivaturi5 February 2023
Mission Majnu is a pleasant surprise among the movies I had watched recently. Title is so pedestrian ("Majnu", seriously?) that there was little chance this could be a decent watch. But this movie ticks some very interesting boxes and makes a good watch.

Screenplay is slow but keeps the audience engaged. Patriotism is the underlying theme and the movie sticks to it, subtly.

Story is about Indian security agents working deep inside Pakistan and how they stop the Pakistanis from building a nuclear bomb in late 1970s. Characters are very real and as audience, we will start to like each one of them. Casting is spot on, except for one (will talk about it shortly). Kumud Mishra, Parmeet Sethi and Sharib Hashmi deserves special mention.

One incredible aspect of the story is the importance it gives to certain background events which are impacting the main plot. The writers do not over indulge in these background events but very effectively portray them at the same time. Viewers will be able to correlate with the major events in India and Pakistan during that time - 1971 war, Pakistan's tryst with nuclear weapon, military takeover by Zial Ul Haq and Morarji Desai coming to power in India. All these events act as a very effective backdrop.

The Indian agents, for most part, are shown with realistic capabilities, though things do go haywire towards the later part of the movie. Train fight sequence and airport shootout especially are unrealistic compared to how the rest of the movie is so very well made.

Things not to like in Mission Majnu? There are two actually. First is the slowness of the plot. This is definitely an OTT watch as you have the option to forward the slow bits. Second is Siddharth Malhotra's lack of acting skills. Siddharth is excellent in his urban youth kind of roles which are driven by appearance, but in a role like "Majnu", his lack of acting skills is a problem.

Mission Majnu is definitely a good watch. It stays true to its core story, a good reflection of the sacrifices that few people make to protect rest of us. Go for it.

Mission Majnu meets Emily in Paris
angelina-7299022 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The two things Mission Majnu and Emily in Paris have in common are- 1st.. yes I have hate watched both the series/ movie and 2nd ..why? Because both of them are annoyingly super lucky in their jobs and solve their problems like this.. *snaps fingers*..

Mission Majnu's Majnu has very conveniently married a girl whose only job is to ask "where are you going?" "Where were you?" "When are you coming back?" And all the time that he is gone, she never enquires anything. Well, aren't we all looking for someone like her. So devoted and not an ounce of suspicion/ jealousy.

Anywho, I love how all the ideas come to Tariq so naturally and also the execution is always super smooth, glitch free. Be it asking unnecessarily annoying questions to a Brigadier or walking in broad daylight with people who were creating ruckus in the middle of the street in an army camp for no reason Or traveling as the most unbelievable Sardar there could be.

Not to forget, ofcourse, how the PM was given a tana in movie that he has not supported the intelligence team unlike our super supportive PM in Uri.. *coughs* *propaganda alert* ..

Final verdict:- The movie name can very well be read as Mission Paglu/ Mission Moron and if you have watched this movie in a theatre, then a definite standing ovation for you *claps*.

Awsome and fantastic. Another perfect and brilliant patriotic movie by siddharth malhotra after shershah. Siddharth Malhotra as Amandeep Singh has nailed his performance. RashmikaMadanna as Nasreen has brilliantly justified her role. Engaging screenplay, Dailogues and train action. Sequence is phenomenal. Is a treat to watch, The chemistry between Siddharth and Rashmika madanna is amazing. Just loved it Especially airport scene has my heart . Climax of the movie is the best part. Script work and story telling was awesome. Acting was very good. A must watch movie...go and watch. Worth watching. Very highly Recommendable.

Just sidharth malhotra and Kumud Mishra show!
mohithroonwal-6884929 January 2023
Nothing new offering this movie has it has same old spy from India staying in Pakistan and the plot covers about how he exchanges information from India to Pakistan.

There are few lackings happened in this movie was majority of action was missing.

Some illogical calls made from Pakistan to India in midnight and Pakistan gets to know when they check that how many indian spies are living!

Siddharth Malhotra 's performance was quite fine nothing special after shershah Kumud Mishra is just potato which gets into everything and still we get excited everytime we watch him playing different roles in movies he is one of the finest artist who gets into everyrole and you will still love him Rashmika mandanna has nothing much to do so she is the same in every movie she does!

Propaganda nonsense
JellyThyName22 January 2023
Where to begin? I was quite disappointed to see that bollywood movies like this are still being made where there is such blatant degradation of Pakistan.

Firstly my mother knew the daughters of the nuclear scientist, she grew up with them and knew where they lived. The movie changed the names and the location- they actually lived in Islamabad- not rawalpindi. How are we meant to feel sympathy for Amandeep and that other RAW agent when they got Nasreens father killed and told so many lies- basically dehumanising Pakistanis. You can't have it both ways trying to make this a cute love story when all this bakwas is going on at the same time.

Secondly, as aforementioned, why is there still a need to constantly make Pakistanis in this movie appear as buffoons? All action scenes were ridiculous! Whilst I enjoy Dhoom etc that's fiction- but when you are portraying this as based on true events you are just further creating a divide between two nations. Ha ha India stronger than Pakistan look at all the useless soldiers.

Thirdly; costumes, set designs so so lazy. Come on yar Pakistani streets and houses don't look like that. Incorrect language used in this too, most people in Rawalpindi speak punjabi!

To conclude, this is a ridiculous propaganda movie which has twisted and made up facts. I love how at the end they had the cheek to say Pakistan never got to test their nuclear bombs etc. Too many lies just putting Pakistan in a bad light akin to what Hollywood does with Russia. Bollywood decided to go the extra mile here with making their fave 'rival' seem utterly useless. Grow up.

Nice movie
tamkamandal22 January 2023
Honestly, I enjoyed the spy and action scenes more than the love tale. I must say that Rashmika and Sid's chemistry in Mission Majnu is out of this world! Sidharth performed an excellent job. This film is incredible, filled of emotion, motivation, and patriotism. Outstanding effort. This is an essential viewing. Excellent narrative filled with fervor, action, and suspense. Sidharth and Rashmika did well. This is the most patriotic film made by Sidharth since Aiyaary, and Shershah enjoyed it. Thank you for all of your hard work, and congrats to everyone who contributed to bringing us these great genuine stories.

Patriotism is not in the blood but in the soul...!!!
PANDIAN12062122 January 2023
Being a debutant director Shantanu Bhaghchi chose a toughest path to succeed with yet another patriotic film based on true story... At times of emergency,Indira Gandhi's statistics or be it Morarji Desai's soft approach of Gandhian ideology and cunning general of Pakistan are well portrayed on screen... Siddharth Malhotra shows some maturity signs after stupendous success of "Shershah"...Major support comes from Kumud Mishra,Sharib & Zakir Hussain that keeps u intense until the end ...Rashmika role could have been dropped which does land in lagging of the screenplay Some intelligent elements could have been added to a spy movie which is missing on larger scale... Despite some lagging moments the flick overpowers with the way the climax portion handled making it a phenomenal success.
