A decent end to the first series.

Wicky arrives at a holiday home to clean ho a nasty mess, when he arrives he has a surprise in store.

I have loved this series so far, I had high hopes for this end of series episode, and in some ways it's good, in some ways, I felt a little disappointed.

This one has pathos, something I hoped we'd get, but unlike the others, I didnt find this one particularly funny.

Very well acted as always, I would expect no less, overall this show has been a real hit for me, and I eagerly look forward to hearing that we get a second series, fingers crossed.

6/10.

Really Nice GenX Series Overall

Warning: Spoilers
Its ones of those shows thats best not to binge watch. An episode a night worked well for us. My wife and I are fellow GenX'ers so there is a sensibility to his humour which we really appreciate. This last episode was perfect for that as we are at that age where we might run into someone from 20yrs ago that unlock all sorts of thoughts/regrets/nostalgia. Also wonderful book end episodes were the"The Influencer" and "The Aristocrat" where our Gen-X hero was first thrown back to the future and then back to the past. My fav line from The Aristocrat" (This is not a house where one flails their arms about!). Hopefully "Mr. Mop" comes back with more episodes. Lots of interesting possible tangents to explore with the flirty Sgt. As well as his pub pals for Season 2.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a high seven rounded up. It had plenty of funny moments in it, but my biggest concern was the woman's immediate readiness to commit the very sin she was angered that her husband had committed. She would have had the moral high ground for a divorce but now she's gone and committed adultery as well both parties are in the wrong. Though in universe there wouldn't be any episode she'd actually done this. My complaining about the fictional morality of a TV show is a complete waste of time of course, I just am annoyed by complete lack of moral fortitude by characters that are supposed to be not morally dubious.

Also I am no fan of Wicky's vaping, such a horrible look.

From this "review" you can tell exactly what sort of person I am can't you?

Season One Review
southdavid7 October 2021
Having found cult success with the Chanel 4 sitcom "Man Down", Greg Davies moves to the BBC with "The Cleaner" - a remake of (of all things) a German sitcom, which is altogether more subtle than "Man Down" but still not entirely above farce. I found it genuinely funny at times, and I do like Greg Davies but I can already see me forgetting about the show entirely in a few weeks.

Each episode sees Paul 'Wicky' Wickstead (Greg Davies) arrive at a crime scene to undertake the specialist cleaning of the aftermath. He is usually forced to interact with a resident at the property, which starts as combative, but usually a bond is formed later on. Each interaction forces Wicky to think about how his own life has progressed and whether it's all that he hoped for.

So yes, overall a much more highbrow series than "Man Down" was, but still plenty of opportunity for Davies to swear and career into things. Each episode has at least one guest star, they set their stall out early with Helena Bonham Carter but the others include David Mitchell, Ruth Madeley, Stephanie Cole, Layton Williams and Jo Hartley.

It's always harder to review a comedy, as taste here is such a personal thing. I'd say that I generally found something amusing in each episode, but if you ask me now, I can't really remember the plot of any of them, let alone what it was that made me laugh. I would say, I did feel the show was confused as to who it was laughing at. Is Wicky supposed to be the voice of reason railing against these millennials and their strange and confusing ideas, or is he an idiot bumbling around a world that's moved on since the 90's? Too often across the run he's both or neither.

I liked the show well enough; I'd probably come back and watch more - but I can't see me revisiting it again any time soon.

The best of the season by far, really enjoyed this one. These have been a little short, only half an hour, but still fun to watch.

Warning: Spoilers
Wicky arrives to clean another bloodsoaked house and finds an old flame from many years ago.

Maggie was the one for him and she then left him. Wicky always hoped that they would reunite one day.

They reminiscence about their past relationship. However it soon becomes clear that Wicky and Maggie have contrasting recollection of their time together in their youth. Maggie was in no mood of Wicky remaining a lad. She wanted to move on.

Wicky is not happy to learn that Maggie married a greedy taxi driver that they both knew. He is also shocked that she has a 20 year old son.

The episode is not that funny. There has been several of them in the first series. You also need to be of a certain age to appreciate the references.

Well at least had been around in 1990 to get the Happy Mondays stuff. After that even the Happy Mondays were drug addled has beens.

Also just when was Wicky and Maggie's relationship. It was meant to be in the early 90s. Yet Wicky thinks that the 20 years old son could be his. He also did not see that photo of a tall lad when he forensically cleaning the house.
