Welcome back Doc!
nmottel5 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We've waited too long for our return to Port Wenn. The story picks up a year after Al and Morwenna's wedding and there are some changes to the village. Martin and Louisa have welcomed a daughter into the family, Buddy is dead, James is attending school, Martin is unhappy and realizes he made a mistake resigning as a doctor, Louisa now has her own child therapist practice, Aunt Ruth had a makeover and is heading to Mexico. There are, of course, several medical emergencies and Doc comes to the rescue. As with the nine previous seasons the writing remains sharp, the acting well done, and the location perfect.

So Nice to Have Him Back
Hitchcoc31 December 2023
The Doc and Louisa are leading an uncomfortable life in the same old place. Louisa has set up a practice for young people. The Doc is immediately regretting leaving his practice but is stuck in his autistic spiral. The whole town wants him back (except for that pack of young women with their acerbic mouths, taunting him). But he still has the blood thing and can't get off the mark when it comes to asking someone for a favor. In this episode we see that Louisa thinks she rules the roost, but she can't get him to stop using his instincts, especially when it come to a very ill mother of one of her patients. The whole storyline revolves around his having enough resolve to ask for help and (this is the big one) to apologize to the people he wronged when he resigned. It's a great episode, including the hiring of a knuckleheaded kid who only wants to steal drugs. Good work by all involved.

Doc Martin is back and Joe Penhale is still stupid!
planktonrules7 April 2024
After several years' absence, "Doc Martin" has returned for a final season. As it's been about three years, some of the characters have visibly aged and the biggest character change is Louisa, who now has managed to become a licensed psychotherapist of some sort. However, since Martin turned in his license some time ago, he hasn't changed...he's still annoying, continues to show signs he's on the Autism spectrum and Bert is still irresponsible and Penhale is still a blithering idiot.

A change to all this is prompted by the mother of Louisa's first client. This harried mom is clearly sick and possibly in danger of keeling over dead...but oddly when Martin notices this and tries, in his own way, to help, she is incredibly defensive and hostile. This pushes Martin to admit he misses work as a doctor and he finally takes the steps needed for reinstatement.

This is a very good welcome to season 10. On the plus side, Bert isn't quite as dumb as usual and Penhale actually manages to do something good. On the negative...well, it all seems so very strange and unnecessary in some ways. Still, the following episodes will really tell whether or not this is a good or bad idea to do one more season.

Wonderful to have the entire cast back
TheDudeReviewsStuff30 June 2023
After a bit of a respite, Doc Martin is back in full flight. Things pick up a year after Martin has resigned from practicing and he is struggling to adapt to not being a doctor. Even though he is no longer registered the villagers still go to him for help. He realizes he made a mistake, swallows his pride, and asks for help.

Thanks to Ruth the Doc realizes he made a mistake and needs to try harder. He still has an edge to his interactions, but there is an underlying kindness that shows through more than before. He truly cares about his patients and is willing to do what he is needed to help them, even to the point of putting himself at risk. Thanks to the kindness of Chris Parsons and the fact he put himself at risk to help a patient, Professor Langan allows to be reinstated. Welcome back to Portwenn Doc Martin.

The writing is once again top notch as is the acting. Martin and Louisa have settled into their marriage adding a second child and a new dog. Al continues running the pub, Bert is still trying get-rich-quick schemes with the typical outcome, Morwenna is learning to be a real estate agent, Mrs Tishell is still in love with the doc, and the rest of the villagers are as loony and lovable as ever.

The Doc still has his issues with blood but continues to work on it. He is trying, in his own way, to be a better doctor but it is a process. Like everything else in life, it is one step at a time.

Season 10 is the final curtain on Doc Martin and it is off to a fine start with this episode. Sit back and enjoy.
