Meloni really wants that Emmy nomination. He showed his acting abilities here. Really enjoying this new format. Well done Dick Wolf.

Warning: Spoilers
This show is interesting, but they can't rely on Olivia Benson every week. Form its own identity if you want it to last.

Around the Bend

Stabler's behavior becomes more and more bizarre. He can barely function in normal situations, but his temper, along with his lack of sleep, are taking him to the edge. Wheatley is beginning to sense something is amiss as Gina goes deep underground. Stabler's kids go to Olivia to help get their father straightened out. Meloni is in Emmy territory right now. I have a feeling things are going to get really tense in upcoming weeks.

Family intervention
jarrodmcdonald-13 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Olivia Benson is back on screen in this offering. I have to admit I did like the intervention that Olivia helped Stabler's children stage to try and get through to him. There is a sort of tenderness in those scenes, a domestic situation that nicely balances all the crime and police work.

Stabler's scene that follows afterward, where he visits Angela Wheatley and they trade "war" stories (about losing loved ones) is also quite good.

We also had some moments earlier at the Wheatley home that I felt played rather well. In those scenes, Gina turns up for Richie's birthday party and gets to know his family better. And then there is that part where she plants the bug in the wine room, while Richard is trying to figure her out.

The stuff in the courtroom is worth mentioning, too...because we see how the judge, prosecuting attorney and the defendant are all putting on a big act for the sake of justice.

Overall this is not a bad episode and it certainly moves things along.

4 episodes in and I'm having a tough time sticking with this.

I wish I could give this a higher score. I was really looking forward to this coming with C. M. And the Stabler character, but it's not the Stabler I remember. And what lazy writing when the writers have him blurt out what he says to Olivia. I mean didn't we already see that eons ago, when a character uses those words and then finds away to take it back? I'm in hopes this show is lacking because of all the shut downs and delays due to well you know 2020. My honest opinion this show needs a major retooling for season 2. Complete with a new show runner, and some casting changes. And; like another reviewer mentioned "do the writers think we're so dumb that we don't notice the changes with the kids". Also; I actually like D. M. As a mob boss I just don't buy it. Not even if he was to stick a few marbles in his mouth and mumble his lines, LOL.

Stabler is not himself.

I understand that the character wants to swim in the trauma of losing his wife and ptsd... but enough already! Stabler is a tough NYPD cop in the mold of John McClain. If he can survive Nakatomi, then Stabler can make fists with his toes, and get over himself!

Man Up!

Stabler doesn't connect with the audience as a bedwetting wimp. Let's resolve this in an episode and go bac to catching bad people.
