A claustrophobic set of interrogations get to the truth
hindsonevansmike18 June 2019
Boyd, front and centre but with excellent, knowledgeable, support from his team, digs through the layers of deceit and misdirection.

Records from the former republic of Yugoslavia provide the backdrop to a 1995 war crime in the Bosnian-Serb-Muslim war in that region. The evidence is slowly gathered, via a few misdirections, unmasking a pair of war criminals ripe for a one-way ticket to the IWT at The Hague.

Not the best ever, but a useful reminder that "nothing disappears for ever".

Outstanding.

Eve is instrumental in helping the team push the case forward, and seek a conviction.

I think this is one of the best episodes of the show, it is genuinely outstanding from start to finish, if you're not moved to tears, or made to feel something by what you see, you must be made of stone.

Guilt and grief run the whole way through, we have secrets hidden, and old wounds, both have to be confronted. This is such an emotive episode, the writing skilfully connects crimes of the past, with crimes of the future, if felt very current, throw in Boyd's handling of his son's death, and you have some tough issues.

Boyd is refusing to confront his demons, I'd ever proof was needed as to what an incredible actor Trevor Eve is, this is all you need, he is genuinely at his best here, his scenes with Grace, and his son will give you chills.

Many people class Yahrzeit as the best of Waking the Dead, and rightly so, it is incredibly good, but I'd argue that Pieta is right up there too.

Superb, 10/10.
