In just a few short years, Billie Eilish has demonstrated a keen sense of range that’s far beyond her 22 years, and she’s managed to tap into—and help shape—the cultural zeitgeist more than once, writing anthems for bad guys, Bond, and Barbie. With her exquisite third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, she further cements her status as alt-pop’s happy warrior, keeping one foot in the mainstream and another firmly outside of it.
At just 10 tracks, Hit Me Hard and Soft is both Eilish’s most concise and most ambitious album to date. Throughout, she and her main collaborator, brother Finneas, experiment with song structure and style, examining her celebrity and persona, in ways that are both playful and profound. Packed with multipart songs and self-referential lyrics that reward repeat listens, the album is a world unto itself—and the most fully realized version of Eilish’s sound.

Beach House put together a pretty stellar setlist for their stripped-down show at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia Monday night (December 11th), including some live debuts and a few rarities they haven’t performed in over a decade.
After a surprise opening set from Philly’s own Kurt Vile, Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally did an intimate gig full of songs for the real heads. They performed “Many Nights” and “The Bells” — both from 2022’s Once Twice Melody: Chapter 3 — live for the very first time, and debuted “Devil’s Pool” from last April’s Become EP.
But the real surprises were the throwback rarities, including “Childhood” from their self-titled debut, which they hadn’t played in a whopping 16 years. They also did “Auburn and Ivory,” another Beach House deep cut, for the first time since 2012. And, for the first time since 2016, they performed Devotion’s “D.A.R.L.I.N.G.” and...

Reid Scott, best known for playing Dan Egan in the HBO political comedy series Veep, will be joining Season 23 of Law & Order in a series regular role. As reported by Variety, Scott will be portraying a NYPD detective in the upcoming season, though further details on his character, including a name, are currently being kept under wraps. Scott’s casting comes a week after Jeffrey Donovan, who played Detective Frank Cosgrove, was let go from the NBC drama over alleged “creative reasons.” Donovan starred in two seasons, having joined the show for Season 21 in 2022. While best known for his role in Veep, in which he starred across the show’s seven-season run, Scott has also appeared in the likes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Afterparty, American Horror Stories, Black-ish, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the latter of which he played Gordon Ford across two seasons. A new NYPD detective will be joining the force on the upcoming 23rd season of Law & Order. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Veep alum Reid Scott has joined the upcoming season as a new series regular on the NBC police procedural, portraying an as-yet unamed NYPD detective.
Scott will feel the void left by former series regular Jeffrey Donovan, who recently exited the show over creative differences. Donovan portrayed Det. Frank Cosgrove in seasons 21 and 22 of the mothership Law & Order drama from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment.
This marks the second detective change on the revival. Anthony Anderson, who reprised his role as Det. Kevin Bernard from the series’ original run, left after Season 21 and was succeeded by Mehcad Brooks, who joined the cast in Season 22 as Frank’s new partner Jalen Shaw.
The Law & Order cast also includes Sam Waterston as Da Jack McCoy, Hugh Dancy as senior prosecutorial assistant Nolan Price, and Camryn Manheim (The Practice) as Lt. Kate Dixon.
Law & Order, which premieres its 23rd season on January 18, 2024, is produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Scott recently starred in the fifth and final season of Emmy-winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel after recurring in Season 4. He can currently be seen starring in the “Daphne” episode of FX anthology series American Horror Stories. He earlier starred on another Emmy-winning comedy, HBO’s Veep, for seven seasons. Scott just wrapped production on the Amazon film Idea of You, starring opposite Anne Hathaway and directed by Michael Showalter. Reid also stars in, and executive produced the pandemic comedy Who Invited Charlie? opposite Adam Palley and Jordana Brewster, as well as the comedy ensemble Wildflower. Scott is repped by Gersh, Impression Entertainment and Ggssc.

Growing up can be an enormous pain in the neck. It’s hard enough to do the first time, but what if you had to do it all over again? That’s what Bea faces in “Wildflower,” which saw its worldwide debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022 before making its theatrical debut in March.
“Wildflower” tells the story of high schooler Bea Johnson from birth to graduation as she navigates life with an intellectually disabled parent and an extended family who can’t quite agree on the best way to help. Bea is comatose, but through a series of flashbacks, viewers explore aspects of her life, including past relationships, school drama, and all the other facets that are an important part of growing up.
The movie has a large ensemble cast, including Kiernan Shipka, Brad Garrett, Alexandra Daddario, Dash Mihok, Jean Smart and more. It’s got...

Wildflower is one of those family films that makes you miss your own. It’s heartfelt and adorable, with multiple fabulous performances. We definitely can’t go without mentioning Jean Smart and Jackie Weaver as the feisty duo that is always bickering. Both Peg and Loretta have had their own difficulties in their lives. They’re both afraid of abandonment and have the tendency to control everything around them, which is why they hate each other’s guts. They’re two sides of the same coin. Peg has two daughters; one is Sharon, and the other is Joy. Peg loves both her daughters dearly and wishes happiness for both of them. Peg’s husband, Earl, on the other hand, doesn’t appreciate the fact that they had to look after Sharon for 21 years and deems her a burden. It’s rather unfortunate that he tries to peg those feelings on his wife too,...

Wildflower is a wild entry in the list of the better movies of the year. Although it carries all the basic cliches and tropes of a coming-of-age film, there’s something extremely endearing about it that works. One could imagine Kiernan Shipka’s acting may have a thing or two to do with it as well. While she is the star and narrator of the film, we get many perspectives on the whole story, which makes it more engaging and makes us more empathetic toward Bea. Born to a neurodivergent mother and a father with a traumatic brain injury that left him with the mind of a 12-year-old permanently, Bea lives a happy life.

Drew Barrymore fired back at tabloid magazines that claim she wished her mom, Jaid Barrymore, was dead.

She captioned the post: “To All You Tabloids. You know what, to all you tabloids out there, you have been f—— with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth. I have been vulnerable, and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship, while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive, and that for those of us who have to figure that out in real-time, cannot wait — as in they cannot wait for the time. Not that the parent is dead. Don’t twist my words around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead.

Kiernan Shipka "cried" when she first read the script for 'Wildflower.' The 23-year-old actress stars as Bea - who navigates life as the daughter of two intellectually disabled parents - in the 2022 comedy-drama and was "so moved" when she first read the script that she had to immediately go for a walk. The primary purpose of this roundup is to highlight films new to streaming platforms that could potentially contend for awards. But some weekends there are no new releases that could credibly be considered awards contenders. This is one of those weeks. But we don’t take the week off. Instead, we highlight the best of what’s new on streaming, whether it’s a contender or not. This week’s picks include two notable new releases and one older movie that should have been a contender.
The contender to watch this weekend: “Wildflower”
“Mad Men’”s Kiernan Shipka stars in this coming-of-age indie dramedy that premiered at TIFF last year. She plays Bea, the teenage daughter of intellectually disabled parents. Bea loves her parents and feels a great sense of responsibility for them, but she also resents them a bit because her life is so different from other people’s.

This Friday sees the release of a “coming of age” story with a couple of very interesting twists. Yes, it’s about a young woman yearning to break free of her childhood home as she approaches the end of high school. Of course, there’s all the college prep, changing friendships, and even a new budding romance. Now, here’s the big detour: she’s conflicted as she believes her folks can’t really fend for themselves. In fact, many might think that she’s really “raising” them. So there’s the conflict between exploration and guilt. And it is “inspired by real events”, in fact, it’s a dramatized take on a documentary from a couple of years ago. Plus it touches on many similar themes as a film from earlier in the month. So, with this young woman’s blossoming new life, could she be the title’s Wildflower?...

When “Coda” won the Best Picture Oscar, many film fans were shocked and disappointed. Sure, the film is perfectly serviceable, if not a bit too sentimental, but is it a true Best Picture? Eh, maybe not. So, it’s with that bit of damning praise that we can say that the new film, “Wildflower,” really does have a “Coda” vibe to it.

"My whole life I've been torn between wanting to get away from my parents... and wanting to care for them." Momentum Pics has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy about family titled Wildflower, which first premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival. It'll be out to watch in the US starting in March including on VOD. A coming-of-age film that follows Bea from birth to graduation as she navigates life with neurodivergent parents and an extended family who can't quite agree on the best way to help. "Inspired by a true story, Wildflower is powered by Bea’s witty, bewildered voiceover. With its top-notch ensemble cast — which includes Jean Smart and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver as Bea’s battling grandmothers — the film spills over with compassion, curiosity, and boisterous, unpredictable life." Kiernan Shipka plays a girl torn between caring for her neurodivergent parents and figuring out her future in the trailer for “Wildflower.”
From Momentum Pictures, the film follows Bea (Shipka), a high school girl on the cusp of graduation. Balancing work, school and looking out for her parents Derek (Dash Mihok) and Sharon (Samantha Hyde) has forced Bea to grow up quickly, a point of tension with members of her extended family.
As shown in the trailer, her parents fell in love at a young age before marrying and giving birth to Bea (full name: Bambi). Their families worry about whether or not they can take care of a child.
“What choice do we have?” asks Weaver’s character.

Rm of the Grammy-nominated group BTS just released his highly anticipated solo album, Indigo. The leader of the global group is the second band member to release a solo album. J-hope released his album, Jack in the Box, in July of this year.
Just hours after its release, Indigo went number one on iTunes in close to 90 countries. That number’s expected to rapidly increase.
Indigo is described by Rm as being a record of his 20s and a sincere introduction of who he truly is. Each track portrays his outspoken opinions, prevailing thoughts, and reminiscence of the past and instant feelings.
Rm is no stranger to transcending boundaries, and his 10-track album includes a collection of collaborations with musicians in various genres. Rm teamed up with Grammy winner Erykah Badu for the track “Yun.” The R&b and Neo Soul singer lends her soulful voice over a breezy R&b beat.

Rm's debut solo studio album, "Indigo," is here, and fans are already moved by the thoughtful and emotional themes that play out through his poetic lyrics. Listeners will notice that the new song he teased with Pharrell isn't on the album, and that's because the project was carefully curated (but fans can definitely expect that collaboration soon).
Rm's lead single, "Wild Flower," sits at track No. 9 on "Indigo," so you may want to start listening to the album now, because in a note to fans on Weverse, Rm asked them to listen to the album from beginning to end to experience it the way he intended. Afterward, you can press play on his live performance from behind NPR's Tiny Desk and watch his new music video for "Wild Flower," a track that explores Rm's outlook on life and mixed feelings about his success and fame.

Singers – BTS Rm, Youjeen
Check out Wild Flower Song Lyrics (English Translation) by BTS Rm and Youjeen
Flower field, that’s where I’m at
Open land, that’s where I’m at
No name, that’s what I have
No shame, I’m on my grave
When your feet don’t touch the ground
When your own heart underestimates you
When your dreams devour you
When you feel you’re not yourself
All those times
I yearned for the flames
I yearned for a beautiful fall
Even before the start I imagined
An end where I could applaud and smile
That’s what I wished for
When everything I believed in grew distant
When all this fame turned into shackles
Please take my desire away from me
No matter what it takes
Oh let me be myself
Oh every day and every night
Persistin’ pain...
Singers – BTS Rm, Youjeen

Flower field, that’s where I’m at
Open land, that’s where I’m at
No name, that’s what I have
No shame, I’m on my grave
When your feet don’t touch the ground
When your own heart underestimates you
When your dreams devour you
When you feel you’re not yourself
All those times
I yearned for the flames
I yearned for a beautiful fall
Even before the start I imagined
An end where I could applaud and smile
That’s what I wished for
When everything I believed in grew distant
When all this fame turned into shackles
Please take my desire away from me
No matter what it takes
Oh let me be myself
Oh every day and every night
Persistin’ pain...

Put simply, Hasbro wants to sell the parts of eOne that produces “The Woman King,” “Yellowjackets,” “The Rookie,” and “Naked & Afraid,” but keep the Transformers and Peppa Pig stuff. As a matter of fact, Hasbro plans to “significantly increase” its investment in its key brands, which also include Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, My Little Pony, Power Rangers, Play-Doh, Monopoly, and Clue. This sale could fund exactly that initiative. It could also...
