Season three review
southdavid17 December 2021
I liked the first two seasons of "Brassic" quite a bit. This third season, whilst I also feel positively about it, I do feel like diminishing returns is starting to set in a little, as plots are reused to keep the show going. I'm certainly not ready for it to end though.

Released from his stint inside, Vinnie (Joseph Gilgun) falls back into his life with his friends pretty quickly, but he has a new adversary. His former classmate, Carl Slater (John Weaver) has been promoted to Detective and makes it his mission to bring down all the illegal activity that the gang do. Erin (Michelle Keegan) decides to take control of Tom's (Ryan Sampson) club but in doing so, forms a very dangerous alliance.

Maybe it was just because they were asked to provide two more episodes but, as I say, I did feel that this season reused plots a little, maybe even within this run. The plot of the Bee's episode and the Bull's semen one (there's a phrase you don't use very often) are pretty much identical, and the one about the Shetland ponies from previous years was also. There's perhaps less narrative through flow for this set of episodes. It's clear that Erin's deal with McCann is going to be the seasons end point and there's a new character, Samantha played by India Mullen, a barmaid who starts dating Vinnie. Let's just say, if you can't guess what the deal is with her character immediately, then there's little hope for you.

This is not to say that I didn't enjoy it. There are multiple moments in each episode that made me laugh. The semi improvised nature of the dialogue is amusing and gives the impression of the cast genuinely being mates. The show is warm, sex positive and employs a diverse cast without making that diversity part of the story.

I'll certainly be back for the fourth season, though I'd hope for a little more originality that we've had with this run.
