Season two of 'Primeval' kicks off where season one finished; with Professor Nick Cutter returning through an anomaly and learning that Claudia Brown no longer seems to exist. That isn't the only change though; he soon learns that he works for the ARC
the Anomaly Research Centre. They are still doing the work that was done before and it isn't long before that means dealing with an incursion by a family of raptors in a shopping mall. They have already killed a pair of security guards and the team will have to be careful if they aren't going to be killed by this 'perfect killer'. The situation isn't helped when Connor accidentally shoots Abby with a tranquiliser dart but on the plus side Cutter comes up with an idea that could be used to detect future anomalies before creatures start turning up in the present.
This was a good opening to the second season; the way the present changed because of some unknown action in the past provided a good explanation for making some major changes; most notably the ARC. This is much larger than the previous organisation and could prove interesting in future. The raptors were impressive creatures and the deaths they caused seemed somewhat more gory than those in the first season; at one point we see a baby raptor rip out a man's throat this is probably why the BBFC rating has gone from PG to 12. The cast do a solid job; most notably Douglas Henshall who does a great job portraying Nick Cutter's distress and confusion at the changes that only his character appears to know about. Andrew Lee Potts continues to provide some laughs as Connor; a character that can be irritating at time but who is fun for the most part. The end features a nice surprise although we'll have to wait till the next episode to learn what it is going on. Overall I thought this was a solid episode with some good action and a sense of mystery about what changes we have yet to see.
