A Real-Life 'Miami Vice' Murder
ccthemovieman-128 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
"Miami: Florida's sexiest city," intones City Confidential narrator Paul Winfield. "It's a steamy cauldron of culture, concrete and coastline. It's like New York City with a tan. There are few places where the sun shines so brightly." I love these openings on City Confidential. They give really good descriptions of the city they are going to profile en route to unraveling a crime story that occurred there. After a clever and sometimes humorous opening, the CC logo appears and you hear, ".......the last place you'd expect a murder." Miami? Yeah, right.

Unlike my other reviews on this A&E Network television program, I'll keep this to a minimum not to spoil anything about the crime story. It was a fairly famous story at the time, about a guy named Don Aronow who became the biggest name in power boat racing. I'm not into boats, but I had heard of this guy. He made quite a name for himself.

Aronow guy was a real go-getter and quickly learned about the business and rose to the top. His speedboats were the ones to have if you were going to race around Miami or just own something sleek and prestigious.

If you want to learn what "The Cigarette" is (not the smoking kind), where is "Thunderboat Row," and who are the big players in this 1970s-1980s "Miami Vice"-type story involving drug smuggling, secret government agents and more, check this episode out. It IS Miami Vice in real life.
