And thus, a new era began.
Buffy Season Four is a controversial Season amongst fans. To put it simply – it’s not the favourite for many. This was a bit of an interesting year for the show – for one thing, it lost two of its principle cast members to a newly launched spin-off, the familiar high school location was no more and the characters were officially adults. Times were moving on for Buffy, and the things that we had gotten used to were going to have to change.
Thus, the show moved onto the life of a Slayer at College, and the adventures that ensued. Adventures that are a little, well, daft at times. Don’t get me wrong – Season Four is by no means a failure, and does hit some serious heights on occasion. If anything, it lacks the consistency of Season Three and the brilliance of Season Two.

This French disc release of the Jacques Tourneur classic gets everything right — including both versions in picture perfect transfers. Devil debunker Dana Andrews locks horns with Niall MacGinnis, a necromancer “who has decoded the Old Book” and can summon a fire & brimstone monster from Hell, no election fraud necessary. Even fans that hate ghost stories love this one — it’s a truly creepy, intelligent highlight of the horror genre.

It seems that Nightbreed has always captured the imagination of horror movie fans. And with good reason...
When the push began for Nightbreed, Clive Barker’s follow up to the cult hit Hellraiser in 1990, the marketing made the film feel like just another slasher film. The confusing advertisements couldn’t seem to decide whether the film’s killer was a button-eyed, masked killer, or the film’s lead character Boone - played by Craig Sheffer - leaving fans scratching their collective heads over what this coming horror joint was even about.

From comic-book adaptations to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Here are the new geek-skewed shows coming to Us TV in 2016...
The world of TV has never been so crowded and, at the same time, geeks have never had it so good. As saturated as the big screen is with superhero films and sprawling shared universes, that mentality has well and truly bled onto the small screen too.
So there’s a lot of comic-book adaptations coming up in 2016 from Marvel, DC and others, but genre TV is represented across the board with science-fiction, fantasy and horror represented at pretty much every network and cable channel in the Us.
Here's some of the geek TV that will be making its way to us from the Us next year.

From Primeval to Merlin and Atlantis, Doctor Who's return spawned a host of Saturday teatime dramas that have since disappeared. What next?
It’s Saturday night. BBC 1 is showing Doctor Who. It does this a lot, generally speaking, and has done on and off (sometimes very off) for over fifty years. When the show returned in 2005 it brought with it the realisation that there was a huge family audience un-catered for on Saturday nights, and unfortunately Doctor Who was only on air for a quarter of the year, so it couldn’t do it all by itself.
ITV quickly realised it needed to attract that audience too, and while it had gameshows that dominated the schedules it didn’t have anything like Buck Rogers In The 25th Century or The A Team to put up against the BBC this time. And time was of the essence: new shows had...

Meet the spooky new trailer for Hammer's upcoming The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death...
There are some key faces missing from Hammer's upcoming production, The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death. Following the success of The Woman In Black, there's no Daniel Radcliffe for a start, nor is director James Watkins back behind the camera. Jane Goldman hasn't penned the screenplay this time either.
But then The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death is set to be a different story, set during a different time. Taking place 40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, this time a bunch of children evacuated during World War II arrive there. And as you might expect, there are spooky goings on.
Tom Harper has taken on the director's chair this time, having previously directed The Scouting Book For Boys, along with episodes of Peaky Blinders, This Is England '86 and Demons.

Doris the Deadite greets us atop the stairs leading to Planet Hollywood’s V3 Theater in Las Vegas. Wearing a blood-splotched white dress with a matching white hat nestled on her curly blonde hair, Doris smiles through the peeling gray skin of her face. Teeth bared, eyes darting from sunken sockets, Doris cackles and beckons us closer for a photo. Welcome to the immersive atmosphere of Evil Dead The Musical Ultimate 4D Experience.
A tasty slice of horror heaven from director/producer Sirc Michaels that’s based on Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy, as well as the book and lyrics of George Reinblatt, this Vegas production is packed with nods to its beloved source material, but also boasts buckets of blood-drenched originality.

Juliette talks creating Classical Greece in modern-day Morocco and Wales with Atlantis production designer Paul Cripps...
Having worked on Merlin, Demons and Hex, Paul Cripps is no stranger to creating a colourful fantasy show on a budget. We sat down to chat with him about his work on Atlantis, from what inspired his set design to the practicalities of putting the show together in under a year.
What can you tell us about the different styles and influences on the set?
We tried to avoid too much of Classical Greece. Most of the Greek myths were set in an earlier time anyway. Everybody has an expectation of what ancient Greece looks like, and it’s normally Classical Greece [c480 – 323 BC, with the architecture of Classical Athens particularly well known – DoG], but we wanted to move away and make it a little bit more tribal, a bit earlier, so we’ve taken it more towards Bronze Age Greece,...

Without doubt, British TV has produced some of the finest shows in the history of television. However, after focusing solely on the best of the best for the last three years, I decided it was time to acknowledge some of the stinkers. The following TV turkeys are remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Most Haunted
People love ghost stories and pratically every pub, school and manor house in England is supposedly haunted by at least one unsettled soul. Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding attempted to shed light on the nations ghouls in the Sky Living documentary series Most Haunted. Despite the best efforts of Fielding and a crack team of paranormal investigators, the show did very little boost the claims of hauntees. Episodes typically involved groups of people skulking around darkened rooms until a creaking floorboard or a gust of wind sent them packing.

We're well aware that the UK's awesomely fun TV series "Primeval" is more sci-fi than horror, but damnit, it's full of dinosaurs and tons of other scary creatures so while we'll not be covering it full-time here on DC, we do want to make our readers aware of its return to the airwaves in Both the UK and the Us simultaneously on January 1, 2011.

The new season of Primeval will pick up a year after the events of the third season cliffhanger that left fans in an uproar after the show was canceled. Well, thank God for second chances...

Philip Glenister has admitted that he regrets starring in supernatural drama Demons. The 47-year-old actor claimed that he may have been miscast as demon hunter Rupert Galvin and slammed critics for comments made about his accent in the show, which was axed by ITV after one series. He told Digital Spy: "I did have problems with Demons personally, and they were partly self-inflicted. I don't think it was a bad series, maybe I was miscast. But then you suddenly get loads of journalists being dialect coaches, when they know f**k-all about accents." Stephen Merchant said he rejected Robert Pattinson as a possibility to star in his film Cemetery Junction.
The comedian said he and Ricky Gervais - who wrote and directed the project together - chose to cast relatively unknown, up-and-coming British actors in the film because they didn't want stars such as the Twilight actor stealing the spotlight.
Merchant (pictured above) said: "If you have a group of friends and one of them is Robert Pattinson, you're sort of 'This is a Robert Pattinson movie' whereas we wanted people to accept they were friends so we had to find new people, and these were the people we found."
The film, released on April 14, is a 'coming of age' story following a group of young people growing up in the 70s in Reading, where Gervais himself was raised.

Starring the excellent young talents of Thomas Turgoose of This is England fame and Holly Grainger who starred in the TV series Demons and Waterloo Road, these two young actors are the main reason to see this dark and gritty film but unfortunately it’s let down by its supporting cast, which is a real shame.
Living all year round at a caravan park on the Norfolk coast, two young inseparable teenagers David (Turgoose) and Emily (Grainger) spend their summer days indulging in games and pranks together as teenagers only do to past the monotony of repetitive days stuck in other peoples idea of a holiday destination.
It comes as heart breaking shock to them both when Emily is told she is...

Strip the mythology of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" of all the subtlety and vampire bits, add a healthy dose of some gender-reversed "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and you end up with "Demons," produced by ITV in the UK and now running on BBC America. You do not, unfortunately, end up with a show that's particularly watchable. The premise is familiar enough to anyone who's ever seen a movie or TV show, ever -- adolescent Luke Van Helsing (Christian Cooke) is a less-than-exceptional student whose life is changed forever when his never-before-seen godfather Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister) pops by to inform him that his dead father was the most recent in a line of monster hunters descended from...

In honor of Demons getting the best debut of any series of on BBC America -- which might have something to do with the Tennant Doctor Who episodes getting the best ratings ever for Bbca -- I give you more images of Christian Cooke, the quite bewitching lead of the show. I've pulled them from gallery Superherofan.Com's gallery devoted to him.
I'm not really spoiling anything to tell you that there's only one season of Demons. The series didn't do well enough to earn a second batch of episodes -- which, if you watched the pilot, isn't that surprising. These are the only shirtless adventures of Cooke we'll get. But, he has moved on to another series, a sudsers called Trinity, which is fortunate for us, as he takes even more off in that show, as the image below reveals.
Check out the rest of the images at the link.

We meant to write up a quick story reminding Dread Central's readers about the premiere of Demons on BBC America this past Saturday, January 2nd, but it seems a reminder wasn't necessary after all as the show delivered the network its highest rated premiere ever for a new series.
In addition, among Persons 2+, Demons ranks as the #2 telecast of all time on BBC America in Live and #6 in Live + Same Day.
Demons, from the writers of Hex and Merlin, puts a contemporary spin on the legacy of Bram Stoker’s Dracula as the last descendant of Van Helsing battles evil in the underworld of modern-day London. Here's the full synopsis:
Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke) is an average teenager, but with the arrival of his dead father's best friend Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister), Luke's life is about to be flipped upside down. Galvin is a straight-talking, headstrong American who has come...

BBC America’s television series, Demons, starts off with a young man thrust into the deadly world of the supernatural. The teenager with a special destiny must either choose to be the hunter of vicious monsters or be the hunted.
As the dialogue boasts of references to Star Wars and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the series itself can be seen as a rip-off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Rupert Galvin is the mentor (Watcher) recruiting “the chosen one,” who just happens to be Luke Rutherford. Luke Rutherford is a descendent of the Van Helsing line (Slayers) who must do battle against the diabolical creatures. Luke’s normal life is thrown into shambles as he finally meets his godfather, Rupert, who reveals the family’s secret past.
Philip Glenister played the arrogant and chauvinistic Gene Hunt in the British sci-fi police procedurals, Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes. Now he...

A friend sent me a quick reminder that Demons, the hunky-male, English take on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, gets underway tonight, after the final episode of Who.
About a young man who learns he's the last descendant of Van Helsing, the famous vampire hunter, he spends the next 13 weeks slaying all manner of supernatural beasties. Shirtless.
Christian Cooke stars as the young, buff hero.
Here's a preview:

Chicago – If you’re not watching BBC America, you’re not watching some of the best television available to you. A noticeable pattern in much of the network’s programming has been a number of series that reimagine or reboot classic character or series types like “Robin Hood,” “Primeval,” “Being Human,” and “Doctor Who”. The latest attempt to inject new life into something familiar is the entertaining winter diversion, “Demons”.
TV Rating: 3.0/5.0
Starring the great Philip Glenister (“Life on Mars,” “Ashes to Ashes”), “Demons” is a modern take on the legend of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” but also clearly inspired by more contemporary demon hunters of recent television. From the writers of “Hex” and “Merlin,” “Demons” is not quite as perfect as some recent BBC America offerings, coming off a bit too predictable and sometimes off in its juggling of tones, but it is a perfectly suitable slice of entertainment...

BBC America has announced the launch date for post-apocalyptic drama series Survivors. The much-delayed Survivors, which is an adaptation of the cult classic 1970s series (itself based on Terry Nation's novel), will have its Us premiere on Saturday, February 13th at 8 pm Et/Pt, before shifting to its regular timeslot at 9 pm Et/Pt the following week. The series tracks the adventures of a group of people who survive a global viral holocaust that wipes out 99 percent of the human race's population and who struggle to stay alive in the face of unspeakable odds following this global catastrophe. In the official scheduling announcement, BBC America refers to the "twelve-episode season" of Survivors, which is a sign that the digital cabler intend to air the first two UK seasons of Survivors back-to-back. Though I still haven't forgiven the great Dr. Abraham Van Helsing for allowing that awful movie with Hugh Jackman to be made about him -- or for not showing up and killing the entire cast of the Twilight -- I'm excited to catch his descendants on the new British import, Demons.
A new horror series from the writers of past British hits Hex and Merlin, Demons features Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes) as cold, stern American Rupert Galvin. The yank must recruit the last descendant of Van Helsing to join forces with him commit to life battling monsters -- before those monsters kill him.
Demons unveils a world just out of humans' sight -- full of vampires and other inhumans. (Insert joke about politicians here.) Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke) is the "everykid" teenager forced to come to terms with the harsh reality that he's the direct descendant of the vampire-hunting Van Helsing.

"The Twilight Saga" may be the current champion of vampire media, but there are plenty of other features focusing on the undead.
The new series "Demons" is a modern-day update on author Bram Stoker's "Dracula," the quintessential vampire literature. Coming from the creators of other such fantasy features "Hex" and "Merlin," the show is a look at the evil forces that lurk in the streets of London in a manner not unlike "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
The story's protagonist is British teenager Luke Rutherford, played by "Doctor Who" actor Christian Cooke, who finds his completely ordinary life interrupted when he meets American Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister). The best friend of Luke's long-deceased father, Galvin enlightens the young man about his heritage. Luke finds out that he comes from a lineage of vampire hunters dating back to "Dracula" hero Abraham Van Helsing, who was not only a real figure but Luke's great-great-grandfather.

Merlin’s Richard Wilson recruits a teenaged descendent of Van Helsing to fight things bumping in the night.
Christian Cooke plays the descendent, Luke Rutherford.

The videos I’ve seen posted make it look fun, with a good combination of danger, humor, and creature effects. It sounds like the perfect companion to BBC America’s Being Human. Like that show, though, the season ends way too quickly.

Our friends at BBC America just let us know that, on January 2, 2010, they'll be bringing a new kind of vampire show to the small screen. Demons is a return to classic, monstrous vampires (as opposed to the current trend of romantic vamps). Rupert reveals that Luke is the great-great grandson of vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing and must carry on the "family business." Sound familiar? Well, it worked for Joss Whedon. And like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Demons isn't just about vampires. Luke will...

One of the greatest British TV shows ever made is back on American television and will hopefully find a brand new audience with its fantastic writing, spooky ambience, and some of the most sexual characters ever created.
Considered to be the British answer to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed, Hex premiered on Britain's SkyOne in the Fall of 2004 with a five episode first series starring Christina Cole (What A Girl Wants, The Deaths of Ian Stone) as Cassie Hughes, our heroine; Jemima Rooper (The Black Dahlia) as Cassie's lesbian best friend, Thelma Bates and Michael Fassbender (300, Inglorious Basterds) as the seductive, yet evil fallen angel, Azazeal.
The show mixed dark humor with an eerie atmosphere that only the UK can offer and sexual overtones that drives the motivation of most of the show's primary characters. What Buffy did with female empowerment, Hex does the same with repressed sexual identity,...

Arthurian adventure series Merlin returns to BBC1 this weekend with a host of big-name guest stars joining the regular cast for its 13-week run.
Having enchanted audiences of more than 6.3 million in its inaugural series, the show promises more magic, mystery, adventure and romance for Season 2 as the young wizard struggles to keep his powers hidden in the increasingly perilous world of Camelot.
Mackenzie Crook (Pirates Of The Caribbean, The Office, Skins, Demons) is to guest-star in the opening episode as the creepy Cedric (pictured right), who is determined to muscle in on Merlin's position as Arthur's right-hand-man - much to the sorcerer's frustration.
Sarah Parish (Mistresses, Cutting It) will play a horrible troll masquerading as the beautiful Lady Catrina; Adrian Lester (Hustle, Bonekickers) is the devious Myror; Charles Dance (Bleak House, Gosford Park) will guest-star as Aredian, the sinister Witchfinder; and Santiago Cabrera (Heroes) returns as the dashing Lancelot.
