Caitlin Cronenberg, the daughter of horror master David Cronenberg, is making her own mark in the genre filmmaking space with Humane, a horror/thriller satire starring Jay Baruchel (This Is The End) and Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”) that forces an affluent family to make an unthinkable choice.
Humane will first be arriving in theaters courtesy of IFC Films on April 26, 2024. The film later comes home to Shudder on July 26.
Michael Sparaga wrote the script and produces the movie, which also stars Peter Gallagher (Grace and Frankie), Sebastian Chacon (Emergency), Alanna Bale (Sort Of, Cardinal) and Sirena Gulamgaus (“Chapelwaite“).
In Humane, “a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare, and chaos erupts among his children.”

The Losers return to a very familiar place: ‘Salem’s Lot. But things look a tad different in 2004.
Starring Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland, Samantha Mathis, and the late and great Andre Braugher and Rutger Hauer, this TNT miniseries updated the 1975 novel by shifting the vampiric action into modern times. This affords the narrative a more topical lense, particularly the mutual feelings of a nation still reeling from 9/11 and the ensuing war overseas.
Join the Losers in the popular Stephen King town as they weigh in on the miniseries’ 2004 vibes, the eerie connection to Wolves of the Calla, the changes to the source material, and the phenomenal cast — particularly Sutherland and Brauer. They also debate whether it’s cynical or earnest, why all the characters are jerks, the edge lord vibe of it all, and its connection to a more recent miniseries cut from the same cloth: Chapelwaite.

Exclusive: Earlier this morning, Amazon revealed that it was laying off several hundred employees across Prime Video and Amazon Studios as part of a review of its business.
Details have emerged about the cuts, which were described by one source close to the company as a “bloodbath”. Senior execs let go include Nancy Cotton, Arturo Interian, Marcy Kaplan, Chris Castallo and Uri Fleming across different divisions.
Most of the exits are a result of the integration of Lindsay Sloane’s MGM Scripted Television team alongside MGM+ and the Barry Poznick-led MGM Alternative TV under Chris Brearton, VP, Corporate Strategy, Prime Video and Studios. Sloane and Poznick’s teams will continue to work closely with the studios teams in developing for Prime Video and also will continue to produce for outside networks and streamers.

The cancelations continue ahead of the holiday weekend.
Amazon has axed a trio of scripted series from its Prime Video service: The Horror of Dolores Roach, Harlan Coben’s Shelter, and With Love are all ending.
The Horror of Dolores Roach and Harlan Coben’s Shelter ran for one season, while With Love is ending after two seasons.
They are the latest cancelations at the streamer over the last few months following shows such as The Peripheral and A League of Their Own, which had both been renewed before those decisions were reversed.

‘Shadow And Bone’, ‘Glamorous’ & ‘Agent Elvis’ Among 5 Series Canceled By Netflix Amid Strike Impact
Exclusive: Netflix will not be going forward with more seasons of live-action series Shadow and Bone and Glamorous and adult animated comedies Agent Elvis, Farzar and Captain Fall.
The decision was made a week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and a month and a half after the end of the WGA work stoppage as networks and platforms continue to evaluate the impact from the strike-related seven-month production shutdown.
While there had been a slew of series cancellations and un-renewals by linear networks and streamers during and immediately after the strikes, Netflix had largely refrained from making cancellation decisions during the past 6½ months while announcing a number of renewals, including One Piece (S2), Ginny & Georgia (S3 and S4); The Lincoln Lawyer (S3), Xo, Kitty (S2), Heartstopper (S2 and S3), The Night Agent (S2 picked up on the eve of the WGA strike), The Diplomat (S2), Fubar (S2), Sweet Magnolias...

We have some bad news for fans of Chapelwaite.
The horror drama will not be returning for a second season.
Co-creator and Executive Producer Jason Filardi took to X to share the sad news.
"I'm afraid Captain Boone's story ends on that beach of weathered, Maine sand," Filardi posted.
"There will be no Season 2. Thank you to all the Chapelwaite fans!"
Chapelwaite launched in August 2021, with the development of a second season being announced shortly after.
But with a lack of updates, fans were left pondering what would become of the series.
Unfortunately, it's likely that no episodes were produced for the planned second season, and Epix becoming MGM+ likely changed the streamer's priorities away from making the new season.

The Epix television show Chapelwaite was described as being a ten episode limited series that would tell the story of Stephen King’s short story Jerusalem‘s Lot, which was a prequel to his novel Salem’s Lot… but after the show’s run came to an end, it was announced that Chapelwaite season 2 was in the works. While the first season had covered the entirety of King’s story, in its own way, the second season was going to go beyond the source material to tell its own original story. But things have changed in the year and half since it appeared that Chapelwaite season 2 was a sure thing, and now showrunner Jason Filardi has taken to social media to confirm that the new season isn’t going to happen after all.

Amidst all the hullabaloo about Showtime merging with Paramount+ and the continuing revival of older shows that nobody asked to be revived, you would be forgiven for missing that the Epix streaming platform formally rebranded as MGM+ on January 15, 2023. Cue the Gif of Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Honsou) in "Guardians of the Galaxy" saying, "Who?"
Epix, for those not familiar, launched in the late 2000s and housed shows such as the Forest Whitaker-led crime drama "Godfather of Harlem" and the Stephen King adaptation "Chapelwaite" prior to its rebranding being announced in the wake of Amazon's 8.5 billion acquisition of MGM's vast collection of films and TV shows. Epix was also the original home of the since-canceled DC comic book TV series "Pennyworth," which moved to HBO Max for its third season under the gloriously cumbersome new title, "Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler." Michael Wright is hoping to breathe new life into the lion with the launch of MGM+.
He is leading the charge to rebrand Epix on January 15 with significant backing from new owner Amazon and a mandate to order more original series so that it can have a slate of new shows on air every week of the year.
This will include some existing favorites such as Godfather of Harlem, starring Forest Whitaker, and sci-fi horror series From, as well as some new series such as Hotel Cocaine from Narcos’ Chris Brancato and a follow-up to Julian Fellowes’ Belgravia, as well as potentially new seasons of shows such as Condor and Chapelwaite.
Not to mention a move into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Silk: Spider Society.

With dozens of shows like What We Do in the Shadows and Chucky representing our favorite genre on the small screen, there’s no denying that we’re living through a horror renaissance on television. However, the amount of quality programming being produced is simply staggering, and it’s becoming hard to keep up with all these new releases, especially when we have to keep track of so many different streaming services. That’s why it’s understandable that a few televised gems would slip through our fingers, destined to become lost in a sea of streamable content.
But fear not, because we here at Bloody Disgusting have come up with a handy list of six underseen horror shows to watch during this Halloween season! While none of these were hits on par with a Mike Flanagan production, I firmly believe that they all deserve more fans and are all still worth a watch.

On Sept. 8, 2017, New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. Pictures released It: Chapter One, the first of two movies based on the classic 1986 novel by Stephen King and a film destined to go down in cinema history as the highest grossing horror movie of all time.
Opening to a record-shattering 124 million and eventually earning 701 million worldwide (against a measly budget of 40 million or so), It: Chapter One was also a fantastic movie. It captured both the unimaginable terror of the entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (helped by a genuinely unnerving performance by Bill Skarsgard) and the emotional, coming-of-age story of the seven kids known as the Losers Club, who bond together to battle the malignancy under their town.
It: Chapter One also proved that a mainstream, high-quality, studio-backed picture could still be made from King’s work, after a nearly 20-year period in which many adaptations either did moderately well...

“The Sandman” just topped the ranking of most in-demand new series in the U.S. following its premiere on Netflix earlier this month. This isn’t surprising as Neil Gaiman has proved to be one of the authors whose work is consistently popular when adapted for TV. But how well does demand for “The Sandman” compare to other Gaiman series adaptations?
Several season premiere episodes of Gaiman adaptations have had nearly identical peaks, around 25 times the demand of the average series, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.
“The Sandman” (purple in the chart below), Amazon Prime Video’s “Good Omens” (red) and Starz’s “American Gods” (orange) all hit this mark within 10 days of premiering, while “Lucifer” (green) took longer to reach its peak in the first month of its second season — at the time still airing...

Paramount+ has unveiled a slate of exclusive acquisitions for the U.K. and Ireland including Keshet’s “La Brea” from NBCUniversal Global Distribution and “Minx,” starring Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond.
“La Brea” is a survival thriller in which citizens battle for survival after they’re pulled into a mysterious land via a Los Angeles sinkhole while “Minx” tells the story of a young feminist and low-rent publisher who set out to create an erotic magazine for women in the 1970s.
“Minx” was acquired from Lionsgate alongside Topher Grace’s “Home Economics,” about the relationship between three adult siblings, and “Son of a Critch,” which is based on the memoir from “This Hour Has Twenty-Two Minutes” host Mark Critch.
The shows will debut on the streamer in August.
“The Thing About Pam,” also acquired from NBCUniversal Global Distribution and starring Renée Zellweger, Josh Duhamel and Judy Greer, dropped on Paramount+ last month.

In addition to setting a new record among all primetime programs for most acting Emmy nominations in a single year (14), “Succession” is now the first series to amass four Best Drama Guest Actor bids at once. Included in this quartet of hopefuls is Adrien Brody, who has contended in two different Emmy categories before. If he triumphs on his third outing, the Oscar winner (for 2002’s “The Pianist”) will become the 21st male actor to be honored by both the film and TV academies, in that order.
Brody’s “Succession” character, Josh Aaronson, was introduced in the fourth episode of the HBO drama’s third season. In the installment, entitled “Lion in the Meadow,” feuding father-son duo and Waystar Royco executives Logan (Brian Cox) and Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) agree to meet privately with Aaronson, a tech billionaire and one of their company’s most preeminent shareholders. Exclusive: It’s been a while since we’ve had a raunchy female feature comedy– arguably since 2017’s Girls Trip, however, here comes D-Day from Spyglass Media Group with Schitt’s Creek‘s Emily Hampshire attached to star.
The pic, written by One Day at a Time scribes Becky Mann, Audra Sielaff and Andy Roth follows newly divorced and sexually inexperienced Kate, as she’s encouraged by her friends to get back out there. Of course Kate has certain standards so she’s not going to settle for just anyone but she’s determined to make her ex’s wedding day her D-Day.
Betsy Thomas, the creator of TBS’ My Boys, will be making her feature directorial debut here.
Thomas tells Deadline, “I am so thrilled to work with the immensely talented Emily Hampshire to bring this hilariously randy script to life.”

For six seasons, Hampshire played Stevie Budd on the Emmy-winning series Schitt’s Creek. She can currently be seen in Chapelwaite on Epix and in the upcoming thriller series The Rig on Amazon. For Stephen King’s short story fans, the American TV series adaptation known as “Chapelwaite” has been a welcome reinvention of King’s short story entitled “Jerusalem’s Lot.” Even viewers who might never have read King but enjoy horror have flocked to the first season of the eerie tale of Captain Charles Boone, played by Adrien Brody.
Since its premiere on August 22, 2021, “Chapelwaite’s” depiction of the Boone family and its creepy tribulations in Preacher’s Corners, Maine has been a popular destination for any type of mature viewers who enjoy a bit of dark suspense and a strong storyline.
Writers Peter and Jason Filardi have recently enjoyed an official renewal of the miniseries for a second season and the “Chapelwaite” fanbase continues to expand. This article will provide details into the main cast of “Chapelwaite” characters and offer insights into the careers of the actors who play those intriguingly complex characters.

“Dune” has been named the best-shot film of 2021 by the American Society of Cinematographers, which held its annual awards show on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
Cinematographer Greig Fraser won the award over a field that included fellow Oscar nominees “The Power of the Dog,” “The Tragedy of Macbeth” and “Nightmare Alley,” as well as “Belfast.”
In the first 35 years of its existence, the ASC winner has gone on to take the Oscar for Best Cinematography less than half the time, although that percentage has improved recently. “Dune” is considered one of the front runners for this year’s cinematography Oscar, with Fraser seemingly in a close with Ari Wegner for “The Power of the Dog,” who could be the first woman ever to win in the category.
Other feature-film awards went to Jessica Beshir for “Faya Dayi” in the documentary category and Pat Scola for “Pig” in the spotlight category,...

Exclusive: Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire will release her first graphic novel, Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch, in partnership with Z2 Comics in August.
Co-written by Eliot Rahal, the graphic novel tells the story of Amelia, the least-favorite daughter of L.A.’s most famous family of witches, the Aierwoods (think the Kardashians of the witch world). She’s a so-so spellcaster who would rather eat Pop-Tarts while listening to murder podcasts than be a reality TV star.
While Amelia’s sisters have all followed in the footsteps of her prominent parents, everything she does is just a little…off-brand. A late bloomer who has yet to find her calling, Amelia uses her powers for mostly mundane things, but even those lead to magical misfires, e.g. the unfashionable witch’s hat that’s permanently stuck to her head.

Let’s first take a look at the drama categories to help you sort out what is available to predict:
Of last year’s nominees for Best Drama Series, winner “The Crown” will not be back in time for this year’s awards. That is the same fate for “The Boys,” “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Mandalorian.” Both “Lovecraft Country” and “Pose” ended their runs and will not be back, only leaving “Bridgerton” and “This Is Us” on the 2022 ballot.
This situation also affects many of the drama acting categories, with “The Crown” champs Olivia Colman, Josh O’Connor, Gillian Anderson...

One of the dangers of there being 800 streaming services now is that it's easier than ever for quality material to slip through the cracks. There are so many streaming movies and series that the discourse is bound to breeze right past some very interesting projects. Case in point: "Chapelwaite." It's a series based on a Stephen King story that also just happens to serve as a prequel to "Salem's Lot" and stars Academy Award winner Adrien Brody. You don't get a lot of period horror of this calibre, but the problem is that Epix just isn't as in the mainstream in the way Netflix,...

The spooky season is officially upon us, but for horror lovers watching Chapelwaite, it began weeks ago on Epix when widower Captain Charles Boone (a terrifically haunting Adrien Brody) and his kids arrived in Preacher’s Corners, Epix The moody, slow-burn series based on Stephen King‘s short story “Jerusalem’s Lot” is deep enough into the narrative to confirm that A) that slow-burn pace is picking up fast, B) yes, this 1800s-set chiller is the prequel to King’s Salem’s Lot, and C) yes, there are vampires feeding on the folks of this insular Maine village. Messy ones, too. Big fangs, dead eyes…none of that brooding or sparkling business. I mean, look at this nightmare below. The manicure alone is chilling. We've got an exclusive clip for you from Chapelwaite Season 1 Episode 2.
It shows Rebecca's playful side as she escorts the Boone family to town for the Halloween celebration.
Rebecca is doing her best to integrate Charles and the kids into her world, but with her writer's urges, it seems like she may be taking more chances than necessary.
It was just on Chapelwaite Season 1 Episode 1 that the Boone's arrived to a less-than-welcoming Preacher's Corners, so should they be pushing the envelope to fit in?
Rebecca's motives for joining the family aren't exactly clear.
It's pretty clear that she's either not familiar with children or has some sort of ulterior motive for being at Chapelwaite.
You do not tell ghost stories to three children who just lost their mother, moved to a foreign town, and live in a sprawling, creepy mansion.

He doesn't know it yet, but Chapelwaite was always in the future for Charles Boone.
Charles has always believed he'd go crazy like his father, but he had no basis for his belief other than the genetic predilection for it.
On Chapelwaite Season 1 Episode 1, Charles believes that moving to the family estate left to him after his cousin's death will be a fresh start after his wife's death. He's wrong.
Until his wife passed, Charles was fine raising his three children on his whaler. When she died, and Chapelwaite fell into his lap, Charles decided to abide by her wishes for her children to have a house and a home.
From the moment the Boones set foot in Preacher's Corners, everything is against them.
Their excitement to put down roots is soured as they receive a chilly reception in town, and even the house's caretaker hopes to cut and run,...

2021 hasn’t exactly been the year of great Stephen King adaptations on the small screen. “Lisey’s Story” wasn’t the cerebral thriller it should have been. And the newest attempt at “The Stand” was a major dud almost from its onset. But, as they say, the third time’s a charm with “Chapelwaite,” a pitch-black horror set in 1850s Maine, where vampires rule the looming eternal night.
Like many great “Nosferatu”-lite narratives, “Chapelwaite,” based upon King’s “Jerusalem’s Lot,” isn’t merely fixated on the bloodthirsty undead stalking the innocent humans trembling in their candlelit homes; it explores our relationship with death, grief, family and what it means to have eternal life. It begins at Chapelwaite manor, where in 1817 a petrified young boy named Charles Boone unsuccessfully attempts to escape his rabid, shovel-wielding father (Sebastien Labelle), who’s dug a grave in his name right outside their home.
