No Axe No show
getitartist4 October 2021
While I truly understand why Damian can't return. Without him it just won't be worth watching. So tired of the bull I'm on the side of Justice. I wish that character would be charged with something. No Axe No watching. Condolences to Damian on the loss...your wife was a shining star. Peaky won't be the same either...

Loved it

Warning: Spoilers
It was a great episode, but I really hope that it's not Axe's last, but it looks like it, at least for a while.

I know Damian Lewis had to deal with personal tragedy so it is probably why he might take some time off but he is the reason I took some interest in Billions to start with, I really hope we haven't seen the last of him and that he will be back bigger and stronger than before.

No More Bobby Axelrod? Obsequious Wags?
kiptoo-776504 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a huge fan of Axe, it will not be the same without him. I was somewhat surprised how 'Wags' switched allegiances soo quickly.

Billions is back on track!

Warning: Spoilers
What a finale! There was not a single second when I wasn't fixated on the TV screen, it was perfection.

After a mediocre first half of the season I am happy that the script writers used the Covid-time to regroup and to come up with one of the best final episodes of Billions. Thanks for the entertainment, I am grateful to the team, good job!

It's a pity that Damian Lewis is leaving the show, so the bar is high, fingers crossed for the next season, I'll be there for sure.

The transition of replacing the Bobby Axelrod character with Price was simply brilliant. Will definitely miss Axelrod character but looking forward to Prince taking over the reigns.

It's hard to see the episode out of context.

Warning: Spoilers
The writers did a good job given the challenge. We understood the "drive", the "fuel" that moves these two worlds and because of that, it works.

I liked the story of Axe and Wendy: "we want it, but we can't have it." On the long run, I can't see Axe quit the world permanently. Working from the shadows is what I expected him to do. And maybe sometimes, later on, back on the stage.

WTF
Batmanfan863 October 2021
Wow!! I thought season 1 and 4 had the best season finale. Well, this was by far the beat season finale!! Twisted, Shocking, and Annihilation. Seems January 2022 Season 6 will return!! I hope Showtime will renew for at least 2 more seasons.

Best show for me sad see Axe gone

Warning: Spoilers
Very good final and seems that the show will continue to be good and not sure whether it will be great. I found particularly that Wags was pathetic on the last scenes. Would expected him and also Victor to react like Dollar Bill did.

Hope that Axe can be back somehow at some point in the future.

Better than expected
bobetjo28 January 2022
Billions lost its way since around mid season 3, in my opinion. Taylor Mason being the only interesting character. The secondary characters like Dollar Bill, who started out doing active underhanded deals had faded into the background. In its place, constant power plays, posturing and cameo appearances by New York celebrities.

The story warmed up a little at the start of season 5, but there was still needless declaiming and posturing. Yawn. The last two episodes made up for all that. We could see the great Corey Stoll striding towards Damien Lewis role. The last episode was delightful in unwinding the final plot in an Oceans Eleven style montage.

So I am pleased this ended on a high.

How can I watch Billions without Axe???
michaelgrace-892864 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Great season. There was a lot of twists and turns, but now Axe is out of the picture I don't think it will be the same. I will of course give season 6 a go but tbh I don't think it will have the same spark. Damien Lewis was a legend in this show and without him I don't think it will work. Shame as this was a show I truly loved and waited impatiently for every season.

Terrible Ending
hawkeye-sid-ifti10 November 2021
The problem with shows like this one is that you DON'T mess with its golden star (Lewis)

He had been staged to be the one that will always win even if he had to lose a few rounds but he would always win. Now win he did by accepting defeat. Now that is not the Axe we have been watching for 5 years.

I understand the lose the actor suffered and my condolences to him and his family.

I sincerely hope that the producers bring him back or convince him to comeback for season 7. Because without Lewis there is no show!

And someone please tell Giamatti to grow back his beard. He looks terrible without it!

Decent, but hoping for better
debpurch-2231419 December 2021
I long-ago wearied of the oh-so-hip and sophomoric dialog references ("just like so-and-so when he did or appeared in such-and-such"). Didn't think this conceit could get any more tedious, but S5 succeeded in essentially replacing ALL "human" dialog with these types of one-liners. The writers must think they are too cool for school. And should be fired.

That said, the second half of S5 turned out to be a sweet setup to a satisfying finale. Hoping S6 will capitalize (with far less kitsch.)

(Update: I wasn't aware of Damian Lewis' personal situation when I wrote the review above. I assumed S6 would feature a parallel storyline between Prince's takeover and Axe's revenge/ comeback. Wishing Mr. Lewis all the best and hoping he will return for S7.)

What a way to ruin an ending
yusufhamdan201210 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why this episode is rated 9/10. Now we all know that Damien Lewis is leaving the show, but this is the way it had to end?

We spent seasons long in battles between Bobby and Chuck and Bobby ends up fleeing to Switzerland selling his company to Mike Prince? I mean seriously, I would have preferred that he went to prison than flee and leave everything behind. Now everyone who has stayed in Axe Cap (not anymore), is working for the enemy of their former CIO.

Also in this season, there looked to be some promise for Bobby and Wendy's relationship to improve, but what a way to ruin that as well. She just chose not to be with him.

Great work writers, you really messed up a perfectly good show. I hope this doesn't go past season 6, the show is done with Damien Lewis.

Arrivederci _____!
bauerlegalservices4 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
No disrespect to Damien Lewis, but I am so glad to say goodbye to Bobby Axelrod. I was so sick of him and his toxic masculinity and constant overblown revenge cycles that always succeeded. I had absolutely no F--ks to give when he and Wendy said their goodbyes--sick of her too but she could get interesting again. Prince will make a much more interesting and nuanced adversary for Chuck although I don't like how he's screwing Taylor over.

Mixed feelings
davejbest20853 November 2021
You do not need to be a genius to see that Part 2 of season 5 was filmed during the pandemic with almost every scene involving video calls, I think Damien Lewis filmed every part in the UK whilst the main cast were in the US. The storyline was very linear and felt very rushed. Part of the attraction of billions is the elaborate storylines, character development and high production values. All of this is missing for these past few episodes.

That said, the final episode gave the best possible outcome for Ax to leave the show and it was executed as well as to be expected. I will watch S6 but feel it will be the last. Let's just hope it's back to normal production values values instead of the soap opera feel.

Let it stop, it's been enough. Every character has become cartoon-like and totally preposterous.

This season did not age well
musclesz10 July 2023
All the push for ESG and non-binary characters, etc. Etc. Did not age well. And is comical to watch it now.

Maybe in season 7 they can have a reference to the collapse of all the ESG companies (Impact companies) and a cute reference to Mulvaney and Bud Light.

"Be progressive, it's the future, renewables, blah blah" - Doh!! Not so much.

I also love how they have 20 year olds being the sages of the economy as if being a near-child, you see the world more clearer or have a better moral compass.

Truly laughable in retrospect. And it's not even that old, 2 years ago this was the thing. How quickly fads fade.

I see a new swing to extreme patriotism and traditional values. Not because I care either way, but that's just how the pendulum moves.

Worst episode of all time
lalolandaesminombre12 October 2021
Wtf happened here? Horrible writting and horrible directing, 70% of the time the characters end the scene looking at each other so awkwardly that it's painful to watch. The story went down hill, I think I will give it a holy burial. This show is dead to me.

Truly bad science-fiction. 9.1? Are you folks kidding me?
Br0075 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watch a lot of science-fiction but none of it is more far fetched than "Billions." It's absurd. It's nonsense. It's annoying in buckets. I now watch exclusively for Paul Giamatti, who is always worth watching. The rest of the show makes "Star Trek" look like a documentary. It's a cartoon. Like "The Walking Dead" 5 seasons ago, it needs to wrap it up already, hopefully with the lead as some zombie's dinner.

This episode epitomizes everything that is wrong with the show, the annoying pop culture references, the even more annoying pop culture cameos (holy cow is Neal Katyal terrible in this), the aimless wandering of Maggie Siff's once proud character, Damian Lewis's awful New York accent and his character Bobby Axelrod going wherever he wants, including strolling into a private meeting in the New York Attorney General's office. This show is ridiculous and if you buy any second of it, I have a dragon to sell you.

It's long past time to drop the axe on Axe and wrap this once proud show up.

So that explains the final eps of the 5 season
richellenls15 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I did actually like the final last episodes, because I binged them altogether, but when the final episode almost came to an end, I had to google cuz me was a LOT confused!! Essentially, I'm a BA fan through and through, whereas I do have love for several supporting characters, however, I just can't wrap my head around the new (BA) character, I mean he has bugged from the minute he was introduced to the series. Ergo for me he just seems super unauthentic, etc, etc, etc!! Anywho, just my several thoughts/opinions!!

At any rate will not be watching the new non BA series!!

The end!
