In the Dark: Expectation Is the Root of All Heartache (2021)
Disappointing Season
The writing declined this season in general, but the character arcs of so many people were hard to watch. Josh and Officer Gene have both become deplorable. Josh is a toxic ego-driven baby man who had his feelings hurt. Gene, for some reason, has empowered him to exact his revenge in an over-the-top way that isn't realistic--he ends up driving the case against Murphy more than anyone. The bromance that put him at the helm, for all intents and purposes, makes little sense. His dialogue has no nuance whatsoever. That character is ruined and needs to be cut. Gene, who was a likeable "good guy" in previous seasons, has become a Grade A douche bag. There's very little grey in this season--all the characters are good or bad, except Trey, Darnell, Murphy and Felix, but grey is where things get interesting. I love Murphy's scrappy smarts and Felix is my favorite character. If you can build the next season around Murphy, Felix, Trey and Darnell, I would watch but the rest of them aren't worth another season.
On My Block (2018)
Male gaze much?
Only 10 minutes in to the pilot and so much objectification of young girls and male gaze. Probably could have been a good show but I'm just sick of the male gaze.
Billions: No Direction Home (2021)
Arrivederci _____!
No disrespect to Damien Lewis, but I am so glad to say goodbye to Bobby Axelrod. I was so sick of him and his toxic masculinity and constant overblown revenge cycles that always succeeded. I had absolutely no F--ks to give when he and Wendy said their goodbyes--sick of her too but she could get interesting again. Prince will make a much more interesting and nuanced adversary for Chuck although I don't like how he's screwing Taylor over.
Reckoning (2019)
Why do I want a Season Two???
Slogged my way through Season One and, damn that cliffhanger at the end, I want a Season Two. But this time, please put more into making the show consistently well-acted and well-written. There are some interesting characters here, but sometimes the acting and dialogue were so bad that I wondered if the shows is intentionally making fun of itself.
